Today was my first time ordering at Dalessandro’s Steaks.

I ordered over the phone. The person who answered my phone call was not pleasant to speak with, and she sounded miserable when taking my order.

Upon my arrival, the establishment was well occupied, and very busy which is normally a good sign.

The in-person representatives were nice to speak to, and retrieving my order was painless due to ordering in advanced.

I got my Cheesteak, and upon opening the Cheesteak, the smell was not the smell of a Cheesteak. It more so smelled like a poorly-made pasta dish. The meat was un-seasoned, and tasted like ground beef without salt and pepper. The cheese was pungent, overpowering, and tasted like pasta cheese.

The sesame bread was soft, which was probably the best thing about the entire sandwich. Mushrooms tasted microwaved. Onions had no taste, as if they were boiled.

Very poor experience. I’ve read some reviews about this restaurant being a “hit-or-miss” Philly spot, but I won’t recommend coming back here to take the chance.

Cash only! Otherwise, perfect.
They do regular steaks or chicken “steaks”.’
Meat is very finely chopped and mixed in with cheese, making for a soft but dense sandwich and delicious. I’d suggest the mix of American and Provolone.
We waited about 10 minutes to order and 15-20 for three sandwiches on a Saturday at lunchtime.
Chicken steak was ok too if you can’t have beef, the steak really was better!
Prices are reasonable IMO, low teens $ for most standard options.

I live in Houston. Visiting DC with family & decided to drive up to see what the REAL Philly Cheesesteak was all about. Picked Dalessandro’s from an online list. Asked the young feller taking orders, what was their most popular cheesesteak and he said the regular. So we ordered 4. What a total waste of $64. Their sandwich doesn’t come close to Charley’s Cheesesteaks we get in the mall for $12. I felt so sorry for the young man worked the window taking orders. It was obvious, he hates working there. Such a wasted drive. Once again, life is all about choices.

Best cheesesteak!!! I used to come as a kid and there was a bar you could sit at inside. Now, it is all outdoors. The wait was 20-25 minutes which was long, but worth it. Delicious!

Good cheesesteaks. Seeded bun is a hit. Good amount of cheese spreed really well throughout. Onions and veggie topping perfectly cooked but also still have a crunch. Not soggy. Great flavors. It was a beautiful day outside and we were with friends so the wait wasn’t bad at all but maybe if it was raining or something miserable, the line would be smaller and the wait would be more miserable. We went on a Saturday at 1:30pm in October and we waited about 20 min for four steaks. We brought a blanket and sat on the grass next to the shop. Magical. Otherwise it’s either a to go situation or you get one of the four tables available for your group. We also people go across the street to chubbies to use their tables lol staff was nice, fast, and hard workers. Very Philly MO. I would recommend.

Dalessandro’s absolutely lives up to the hype. The steak is chopped perfectly fine so every bite is juicy, savory, and packed with flavor. The roll soaks up the juices without getting soggy, the onions are cooked just right, and the cheese blends into every crevice the way a real Philly cheesesteak should.

What makes it stand out is the balance — nothing is overpowering, everything works together. It’s not just meat thrown in a bun; it’s a proper cheesesteak built with intention. Simple, classic, and done right.

If you’re in Philly and want the real thing, this is the spot. No gimmicks, no shortcuts — just a perfect cheesesteak every single time.

When I left a tip, the cashier mentioned to the rest of the staff who all said thank you. It was unexpected and a nice feeling being thanked by the staff for tipping.

The food was good. Way too much meat for me, but to each his own. The meat was tender & make sure you say “yes” to salt & pepper or you’ll have a bland sandwich! The bun was nice & soft. The peppers were sweet & tender just the way I like them. The only problem I had was the cheez whiz was an extra $1 & they gave me a teaspoon of it(as you can see in the photo) which the wrapper consumed most of lol other then that it was a great experience!

Well, Dalessandro’s is one of the best if not the top five in the Philadelphia region for cheesesteaks. You may want to go to others like Jim stakes on South Street and some of the other more touristy spots but for people who know this is the place to go. Avoid Gino’s and Pat stakes at all cost. You will be sorely disappointed. Now I’d like to provide the reasons why I gave this not five stars across the board. There is no atmosphere you are no longer permitted to go inside of Dalessandro’s. It is a pick up only outside there are three available picnic tables that they have that is it. I had asked them about opening up the inside and they told me they have no plans to do that in the immediate future, which is sad. Now the cheesesteaks I’ve had there been eating at Delasandro’s for over 25 years approximately and they have been really good at times and other times they’ve been just average. With other popular cheesesteaks in the area and the affordability of it being so expensive because my two cheesesteaks I got were a regular cheesesteak with American mayo fried onions, and the other one was a chicken cheesesteak with cheese, whiz, and fried onions. That came to $33!
Now we did have a celebrity in our midst. Ronny Chieng from the Daily show.
I now go to another cheesesteak place close by my house called Verona’s and for about the same price the cheesesteaks were better flavored and seasoning. The rolls were a little bit better as well and it was just an all-around better experience. You can check out my other reviews from Verona‘s to wherever else I’ve been in the world.

Perfect amount of cheese and steak! The bread is soft and the perfect amount of toppings!! We have never had a ‘REAL’ Philly Steak, (we are from MI) so we read reviews and we were in love at 1st bite!!!
Definitely worth the trip if you want to eat a real Philly cheesesteak in Philly

Beef in cheese steaks is chopped finely (a few steps away from ground beef) and condiments/toppings like ketchup and peppers are on the bottomof the sandwich. Bread roll is not toasted. You might be able to request it toasted, but it’s not the default. Cash only establishment, but an ATM is nearby. Orders are highlighted on the screen and it’s a 20-25 minutes wait from the time your order is placed (I went on a late Sunday afternoon). American cheese whiz is mixed well with the meat. Overall 8/10.
