The food is not very warm, some of the food like the deep fried pork for the sweet and sour is hard and I think it is from yesterday. They were out of rice, spoons, and forks, the pot stickers are old and have hardly any flavor, the egg rolls taste like canned meat ! I would not recommend this place to ANYONE until they change their food!!! The lady whom sat us was very polite and nice.

Great selection of food. Clean. Atmosphere is pleasant. I highly recommend it. Waitress was attentive without being obnoxious. Price includes drink and dessert. If you do not see something on the buffet that you want, they offer to fix it for you at no extra charge. Music was relaxing and not too loud. Buffet includes many American staples (fries, pizza, Jell-o). They have a chocolate fountain but few things to dip into it. I’ve cream is served in prepackaged cups along with bomb pops and drumsticks.

One of the best buffets in Des Moines and I’m picky. My wife and I went and she had a pop, I had a water and our bill was 16.99. A fair price. I can’t imagine why there would be any bad reviews. The most spicy food was the chicken wings which had a great flavor! I would go again for sure!

We’ve been going there regularly, since they opened. It’s definitely one of our favorite Chinese buffets. They have an attractive decor, and keep everything clean. The food is as good as any buffet we’ve eaten, and they have competitive, if not the best prices. The staff is friendly, without being annoying.
After reading all of the comments to date, I’d like to address several of the complaints below. – – Specifically, the temperature, taste, and freshness of the food.
Yes, there are times when the temperature is not as hot as I like. But I’ve experienced this at nearly every buffet. If they keep the food too hot for too long, it will soon dry out. The best thing to avoid this, is go during peak times, when there is high turnover on the food. Another trick I use (usually with the fried, battered shrimp), is to sample one piece to guage freshness. If it’s not hot and fresh, come back to it later, when they change out the pan, and eat something else you like first.
As far as the taste, that may depend on your preference. I love the hot and sour soup they serve, and have not at all found it to taste like soap. Overall, I find the taste of their food to be my favorite. We’ve tried nearly every buffet in town, and it’s often a let-down to eat at other restaurants, since we’ve been to China Buffet. I haven’t tried the raw shrimp, so can’t address that specific complaint with authority, but overall the taste is the best to myself and family.
One way I think they could improve, is with the consistency of their music selection and volume. Some days you come in and they’re playing pleasant, contemporary Chinese music, or soft, classical music, at a pleasant volume. Other days we’ve come in, and they’ve had somewhat loud, rock music, which totally blows the ambience for me. If you have difficulty carrying on a conversation, because the music is too loud to hear the person next to you, then they need to turn it down. Also, I don’t go to a Chinese restaurant to get an American ambience. I want to hear Chinese music. It would be nice if they softly played the old, traditional Chinese music you used to hear in Chinese restaurants. The least they could do is keep it soft Asian, and at a low volume. I suspect some of this has to do with staff changing things to their preference, but have also experienced similar things at many other restaurants.
All in all, this is one of our favorite, if not the favorite Chinese buffet in town, and we’ve tried most of them.

The food over there is very tasteless and pretty much most of the food are very cold. However the the place was pretty dead which it made both me and my husband uncomfortable while we are trying to enjoy the food. I understand it is a public place for anyone to come from all age but I don’t know how we ended up meeting children who are being disrespectful. I feel like we were in a fast food restaurant where we are not having fast food at the time.

I eat here regularly for lunch and dinner and I have for many years. The new owners are an awesome family and their staff is very friendly and efficient. Just a word to the people whom chose to go here late for lunch (after 2pm or 3pm) and then complain about dry food, picked over food, empty food trays or food not being hot enough, well go figure people, you are plain an simply late for lunch. If your favorite choices are all picked over, or wilted, or cold all you have to do is ask any of the staff and they will have the chefs make a new batch of anything, just for you. In fact they are probably already in the process making more because they keep a watchful eye on everything and constantly bring out new batches. It’s a buffet folks and the favorites go fast, the chef’s all work their fannys off in that kitchen to keep up with everything. Don’t let your first visit be your last visit because you were late to lunch. They constantly cook fresh food and can’t possibly make everything all at once. And to all the people whom leave a poor review after a first visit. It’s simply very rude and it’s not beneficial to anyone. I just had dinner at 4:30pm and it was awesome.

Wish I could give zero stars. This was by far some of the worst food I’ve ever eaten. I liked the sesame chicken but it’s kinda hard to mess that up. We went for the endless crabs, but that was a joke. The crabs were cold, had hardly any meat in them and the most insulting part about it was that instead of being served with sweet savory clarified butter they served it with artificial popcorn butter. Yes they served the crabs with the stuff you put on top your movie theater popcorn. The crabs didn’t taste good enough without being dipped with some kind of sauce or butter. Just ruined the entire experience for me. It is painful obvious they don’t care about the food they are serving and frankly at times I was afraid to eat it, because if they care so little about their food probably means they don’t care how it’s kept or prepared. $50 down the drain.

Think again if you want fresh food. They are way over priced for what they offer The only thing I ate was the noodles since that was the one good thing on the buffet table and that is saying something because I love Chinese food and not that picky. For the 45 minutes being their they did not come out with any fresh food and the waiters didn’t bother refilling my water. I would not even give it a 1 star.

The food was delicious and the service was perfect. It was the first time my dad and I had been there and we would both return. Prompt service without feeling like they were hovering over us and not waiting an eternity to get help. One of the best restaurants I have ever been to. Love the chocolate fountain.

TERRIBLE!!! Selection is very poor, and no one in hurry to even refilling empty buffet trays! I was on my 1/2 lunch and wanted to take out. After paying and seeing poor food selection – I wanted to get my money back but the girl on the register just disappeared!! for more than 10 min!!
I had to wait and tell the cook to refill 2 empty trays. NEVER going back to that place – no desserts, no taste and no selection along with poor management. DON”T WASTE YOUR MONEY!!!
