Social Profile:

Originally constructed in 1885, the fire station was a staple of its community, remaining active until 2010 when it was then used to store equipment until it decommissioned several years later. The now rehabilitated space has kept with tradition by making a positive impact on its community — and guests. Through craft food, craft cocktails and coffee, A-Side strives to create unique experiences for all those who enter its doors while giving back to the neighborhood that has already given it so much.

My husband and I came here for date night and truly enjoyed ourselves. The food was great (and very well-seasoned!) and so were the drinks. The atmosphere was nice and simple. My only critique is that the water glasses have that wet-dog smell (IYKYK). We will definitely be coming back in the future.

The service was spectacular! Friendly, helpful, attentive. The hostess and our server both wished me a happy birthday without me even saying anything. (The tiara might have clued them in.) Big shout-out to Priscilla M for making the evening even more enjoyable!

I ordered the Pan Seared Salmon from the fall menu, and it was *delicious*! Perfect temperature, full of flavor. For my birthday dessert, I had the Mousse Au Chocolate. I have celiac and both items were (or could be made) gluten-free.

We were there on a Friday night, with a party going on upstairs in their private banquet room. It was crowded and pretty loud. The floors are old firehouse floors and the ceilings are tall, so sound bounces around easily. Take note of that if you’re sensitive to noise.

Also, reservations are *highly* recommended, especially on busier nights. There were few, if any, open tables.

Speaking of tables, these are *all* tables. No booths. I found the chairs comfortable for the time we spent there at a leisurely dinner.

The entire restaurant is accessible, and there’s an easily accessible/family bathroom. Other bathrooms are single gender (and only one person at a time).

Prices were reasonable, especially for the amount of food and the quality. Just an amazing meal and we will definitely be back!

Make sure you make a reservation before going because they get busy. Inside is on the louder side and tables are fairly close together but didn’t bother us.

The Benedict was good, sauce was a bit too heavy for me. The English muffin was nicely toasted. Hash browns were gross! No salt or flavor, just straight potato. Biscuits and gravy were delicious and had a good amount of gravy. You can really taste the mushroom and the big chunks of sausages added a good texture to it. The Dutch baby was different than your normal pancake and tasted more like a flatbread with a ton of butter on top. If you want to add whipped cream only it’ll cost you $1 for just a tiny bit! Kids burger was delicious according to my daughter and the fries are more on the thin soggy side.

Plenty of street parking and they actually have a small parking area next to the restaurant.

Overall I would definitely go back but wouldn’t order the Dutch baby.

YUM! Or the french equivalent MIAM-MIAM! Lovely setting, delicious food, inspired cocktails and mocktails. We split the roasted beet salad and each got a crock of the French Onion soup. Mon Dieu!

Nice experience. Beautiful historic fire house turned into a coffee shops/eatery. Looks like they may have an original fireman’s pole. Live the brick. Great service. Beautiful day but we chose to sit inside.i would this is located in the eastern side of Highland in St. Paul.

Dinner recently, new place for us – former firehouse in a St Paul neighborhood. Dinner menu is varied – some greens, some bowls, and burgers/sandwiches. We both had the A-side Burger – a double smashed cheeseburger with bacon, cheese, onions, etc – both thought it was good. The fries were good, while I had the mixed greens and a cup of soup. Soup was very good – a variant on chicken chili. Service was a little slow, seemed to have enough people working – but not in our area. Atmosphere is fun – an older building well remodeled.

This place is such a gem! I love that it’s housed in a converted firehouse—there’s something so charming and nostalgic about it. Tucked right into the heart of a neighborhood, it feels cozy, welcoming, and unpretentiously cool. And let’s be real… you can never go wrong with exposed brick.

The service was friendly and quick, and the food? Absolutely delicious.

We started with the A-Side wings (highly recommend!), and I went for the Justine’s Special Burger—it was the perfect burst of flavor for a warm day. My partner had the French Onion Steak Sandwich, which was equally impressive. And let me just say: the frites? Easily my new favorite fries. Crispy, golden perfection.

Already planning our next visit—there’s so much more on the menu I want to try!

Updated: June 2025: Menu changed but still interesting. Molly O. Was a great server and very attentive to our table. The French onion steak sandwich and Shawarma Bowl were the favorites today. Wonderful flavors of iced tea and many fun mocktails.

June 2024: Our group of nine really enjoyed our lunch there, and our server, which was exceptional. The food and mock tails were outstanding, especially the CROQUE MONSIEUR. It was a little hard to hear with our big group, because the ceilings were high, but other than that the building was very cool. The pole they slid down when it was a fire house was still there also and bathrooms were very clean. Will be back for brunch so we can try that menu.

Came for Father’s Day brunch
Loved the vibe here. Such a neat idea to turn an old firehouse into a full service restaurant
They were very busy this day so getting seated took a little bit past our reservation but no big deal

Egg Sandwich- this was delicious and served with hashbrowns- the potatoes were under seasoned but nothing that hot sauce couldn’t fix
Shirred Eggs- unfortunately these definitely came out overcooked and I think it was because they were very busy that day
Burger Franco-Américain Décadent,- hubby said it was good but too messy to eat!
Specialty coffees were great

Service was just okay- again probably understaffed on a busy occasion
If I’m over on this side of St. Paul again would try the patio for drinks

ADORE this place! Staff is super friendly and the atmosphere, especially the patio, is lovely. We shared the shrimp ceviche, A-side burger, and shawarma bowl. All were really good, but my favorite was the A-side burger. Ceviche was also perfect on a hot day. Will be back!
