Saturdays they don’t normally serve food, but today the bartender made my friend and I pulled pork sandwiches. Nice group of guys hanging out enjoying their Saturday. We had a blast.

Gary, the owner, was super nice and friendly. He shared the history of his family owned bar since the 40’s. Good beer selection, pool table and golf arcade type game. The locals were friendly to those of use from out of town. Would highly recommend.

My brother, sister and I go there every time we visit in Vallonia. Our dad (Clyde), grandparents (Leo and Lula) and our Great Aunt Mary lived there on Church St. But the Bluebird is a great small-town bar and meeting place. Small town atmosphere and friendly people, as long as you are friendly too. We wish we could visit there more often. Give it a try if you are anywhere near the area and have a beer!

Basically a lunch spot for the locals. A visitor is readily noticed!
I am pretty sure everybody gets the same meal. The day I was there it was meatloaf and mash potatoes. Sleepy little town. Don’t expect personal service. I sat at the counter, never received a bill. I just left some money and went on my way. I won’t be back. I don’t think they will miss me.
If you want a beer, I think you will be happy. It looks like they have live music in there in the evenings.

I love hanging out in a place with so much history. It’s a time capsule. Not much changed since the 1940’s. Don’t expect a hundred beer list please. Don’t expect a long and varied menu. But if you are close drop in and have a quiet beer and spend a few bucks at the Blue Bird. A great time to come is Vallonia days in October.

The care in detail that local places can give really stand out here. Parking can be a little hard to work with on busy nights, but it is in a great neighborhood so feel safe walking a block.
Mondays @6pm Tacos are a dollar and beers are $2.50 !
Wednesday have an awesome homestyle lunch ~$8 !

Could have gone 5 stars, or could have gone 2 stars…it’s all about context. Blue Bird is exactly what it is supposed to be – a small, old neighborhood bar. The man behind the counter was friendly and takes care of folks well. The prices are cheap, and the food tastes good. The only reason I docked a star is because I’d like to have seen more offered in the way of food if you’re going to have “cafe” on your sign. Today was only meatloaf, chili, or ham salad.
I had two bowls of some good homemade chili and a bottle of water for less than five bucks. Not bad at all!
