Located in the Cargo District.. it is certainly worth a visit!
The chicken is juicy , well breaded, perfectly cooked served on a brioche bun with comeback sauce , house made pickles & coleslaw… you can also choose your own level wheat … there are several options to choose from!
I went with the “ HOT “ option and it did not disappoint…
We also enjoyed the Mac & Cheese ..& the Fries ( fried in tallow ) …

I eat lots of bbq and I have to say this one is right up there with the best. One criteria I have is the sides, and Shepard does an outstanding job with their homemade sides. Heck, who wants HT level coleslaw, right? When it comes to meats, this place shines. I tried their pulled pork sandwich and it was heaven. The roll did not become mush even when I soaked the pork with their delicious sauce. Huge helping of succulent and pork in it so please be hungry! It’s not hard to understand why Guy Fieri loves Shepard BBQ.

We got a variety of tasty options: Eastern North Carolina style pulled pork BBQ, coleslaw, brisket, ribs, collards, mac & cheese, chicken tenders, Nashville hot style (from bird box) I mean literally everything was so delicious! I have absolutely zero notes and I grew up here in Wilmington, North Carolina so I’m picky. Cheers to Shepherd’s barbecue! We will 100% be back. Best barbecue and more place in town I would say.

Wilmington definitely lacks for what I consider to be good bbq. This bbq hits the spot. We got several pints of pork and sides to celebrate a friend’s birthday and it was a hit. Collards and pulled pork were so good. We have since been back several times since it is in a great location for us. Definitely give them a try!

I was excited to try Shepherd’s in the Cargo District but unfortunately, the food was underwhelming. Pulled pork was super wet, literally sitting in 2 inches of greasy liquid (not sauce). Sausage was decent. Will go back one more time for a second try.

Not gonna lie. This BBQ is legit. I’ve had the Brisket.. Smoked Turkey Pulled Pork Ribs . Sides Banana Pudding . I just stumbled on a new favorite combo. Pulled Pork, Collards, Pit Beans jazzed up together in a bowl, that sauce. And some cornbread…. get outta here… thank you Chef.

Get the fried chicken pimento sandwich with honey butter! Only suggestion is to add a stick in the middle so it doesn’t fall apart on you.
