INSIDE OF DESI’S BAR IN POINT LOMA!
San Diego’s Only Authentic Detroit Style Pizza
Everyone wants to know WHAT IS DETROIT STYLE PIZZA?
Detroit style pizza is also known as Detroit deep dish pizza or Detroit pan pizza. Most people outside of Detroit have never even heard about our Motor City secret, but that’s OK, because if you like pizza, you’ll love Detroit style pizza!
Detroit style is a style of pizza developed in 1946 in Detroit, Michigan. It’s a square pizza descended from Sicilian style, with a light airy dough & crispy cheese edges.

First time trying Angry Petes, the pizza is legit! The size is deceptive – they look like an average size to small-ish, but I was HUNGRY and could only finish two slices. The toppings were abundant. I wish there was a little more sauce, but admittedly despite being from the Midwest I’m not sure if that’s just normal for Detroit style.

I’m a big pizza fan and I honestly think their pizza should be the official standard of pizza making. I ordered the Lions, Tigers & Wolverine pizza and I can’t describe how good this is. It’s everything you need after a long day and b4 starting the weekend. It’s a 4 slice 8″x10″ square pizza and it’s perfect for two people. The slice is the size of my hand IDK how to explain it better lol. But it’s thick and rich with tasty flavor that you’ll definitely appreciate, I promise.

Seriously folks, you’re giving these guys too much credit. This is a far cry from true Detroit-style pizza and coney dogs. The dough is dull, the sauce has no backbone, and the cheese lacks moisture. They may import Koegel coney dogs and sauce, but the stale bun ruins it. Detroit deserves better representation than this. Good food comes from love, not anger.

This pizza is so delicious! Me and my hubby were looking for a different pizza joint for a quick grab and go but we were tired of the other regular pizza joints. He looked it up and it was really close to home. It’s a little hole in the wall and well worth it. The pie is served as a personal pan pizza; square cut to 4 pieces. It’s the only version they have but it’s so filling with just two of the 4 pieces. It comes with Parmesan and fresh basil sprouts. I really love this place now and it’s going to be my go to pizza joint from now on

I thought this place was good! I was excited to try it as I personally love Detroit pizza the most out of the “big city pizzas” (Detroit, Chicago, and New York). I wasn’t disappointed it was good but that’s it. It wasn’t like I have to keep coming back everyday or I will die like some Detroit style pizzas I’ve had! Also didn’t realize it’s in a bar and the bar is Desi’s and it’s really lovely 🙂 definitely recommend staying for a drink or two!

(Inside Desi’s Bar and Grill) Although Angry Pete’s is known for their wonderful Detroit Style Pizza, their Double American Smashburger is one of the best burgers around. Their Coney Dog is also amazing! Tip: Get it with the side of Jojos (Potatoes)!

I’m sorry to post this, because the bar itself was a great joint, but this was maybe the worst Detroit style pizza I’ve ever had in my life.
The toppings were low key gross (didn’t have the right amount of crisp), the sauce was disgustingly sweet (I’m almost positive they added sugar to the sauce, because Bianco di Napoli tomatoes don’t taste like that), and the dough itself was mid. Despite the dough, the crust was the only decent thing about the pie. Good level of maillard on the cheese.

Quite literally the best pizza in SD. Not to mention I can get a true detroit coney dog, faygo pop, and better made chips. Run, don’t walk, and get some angry Pete’s asap.

Terrific, very casual place for Detroit style pizza. We ordered by the slice on our first visit and a whole pie, to go on the second. The crust on the whole pizza was a little better, probably from being freshly prepared. This place is a former Taco Bell so don’t expect a to of bells and whistles inside, but the service was friendly and fast and the pizza was fantastic

Authentic Detroit pie, only rivaled by the original Buddy’s in Detroit itself! Will definitely be coming back!
