We stopped by after hiking around the twin falls. The food was incredible. I haven’t had pulled pork that delicious in a while! The prices are good as well. The lady working there was by herself and she was the sweetest. She was working very hard.

The ladies working were really nice, but it is not a restaurant. It’s like cafeteria food. Everything is lined up in warmers and crock pots on a table. Went in the back because daughter had to use restroom. Their “kitchen” (if you can call it that) was a mess. The only method they had to cook food was instantpots and a microwave. Didn’t see a smoker anywhere on the property. They were literally microwaving the meat. The lady came in the back to check the microwave meat, poked it with her bare fingers, then added more time to the microwave and went back to the front. There was a hair in my daughter’s food (she didn’t tell me until we left the restaurant because she felt bad complaining or I would have said something). The quality of food is poor and overpriced. Do NOT get the green beans. They’re so bad. Also, they just put an ice bucket out for customers to serve their own ice with a scoop. I’m surprised the health department allows this. It is a Hepatitis outbreak waiting to happen. I do not want to take ice from a bucket that how many other random people have dipped their dirty hands into. Their sweet tea is the worst I’ve ever had. Let’s put it this way: we were there on a Friday at 5:30 and there were zero other customers. With so few restaurants in the area, you’d think they’d have more customers on a Friday at peak supper-time. The burgers are just cheap frozen patties. Most of the food was edible, but just not good and definitely not worth the cost. Brisket was dry. Pork was bland. Mac&cheese bland and oily. And you can’t just put Bbq sauce on microwaved Instantpot meat and call it BBQ. I wouldn’t eat here again.

We visited Rock Island on Memorial Day 2025 and our little group of four stopped in to check it out about 10:30am. A little late for breakfast but they still had biscuits, gravy, sausage, and pork tenderloin and we tried a bit of it all, and it was all good. The “pepper gravy” wasn’t spicy, it was just perfectly seasoned, smooth, thick and creamy. The biscuits and sausage reminded us of Grandma’s cooking. Thee pork tenderloin was so tender it practically melted in our mouths like a little slice of paradise.

The coffee was fresh, not too strong and not too weak. The atmosphere was cozy and the service waas prompt and friendly. We grabbed some of their “Pope Taylor Pulled Pork” for the road and oh boy was it good. Tender, flavorful, and we sure wished we’d gotten more than just a little container of it and the prices were great.

Hope y’all get to enjoy Newt’s BBQ IN Rock Island sometime too, cause you’ll be missing out if you don’t!

We ordered the loaded nachos, a pulled chicken sandwich with fries, and brisket with coleslaw and mashed potatoes & gravy. Our total was $54! The portion sizes for the sides were pretty small—not worth $3.99 each. Unfortunately, both the brisket and the chicken were bland, lacking the flavorful punch we were hoping for. There’s definitely better BBQ out there. Wouldn’t go out of my way to come back.

AMAZING bbq, very kind owner. If you’re exhausted after hiking over at Rock Island, I suggest you stop in afterward for a delicious home cooked meal.

The dessert, pecan pie pudding was to die for.

We were headed for the falls and had not seen anything to eat. Saw this place. Nice outdoor seating. Limited parking. Walked in and you could just tell these folks love what they are doing and serving. Hands down…some of the best bbq and sides we have had! The owners were attentive because they wanted us to be satisfied.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Newts BBQ, located at 98 Rock Island Rd, and I can confidently say it was an excellent experience from start to finish.

I ordered the pulled pork nachos along with some beans, and I was impressed by the generous portions and flavors. The nachos were incredibly filling and packed with delicious, smoky goodness. It’s a perfect choice for anyone looking for a satisfying meal!

The service was another highlight of my visit. The staff was friendly and attentive, creating a welcoming atmosphere that made me feel valued as a customer.

The ambiance of the restaurant is cozy, making it a great spot for a casual meal with friends or family.

I highly recommend Newts BBQ, not only for the fantastic food but also for the overall experience. It’s a perfect blend of convenience, taste, and a friendly environment, and I believe in supporting local establishments like this one. I will definitely be returning!
