Good food, always get the California burrito and birria tacos. I would like to give a higher star on the food quality but today I found a large piece of bone in my birria taco that was surprisingly very sharp. Luckily I was eating slowly but that definitely could have damaged my mouth. I have gotten take out here multiple times and have never previously experienced that but it is something I definitely thought I needed to share.

My favorite eatery in SLO! I come here every time I visit my sister at Cal Poly. Absolutely delicious and great value food. The staff are very friendly and I loved the complementary chips and variety of salsas. I highly recommend eating here!

Best Mexican food in San Luis Obispo. At least best I’ve found so far.
But it’s a takeout place. Very little seating. Plan accordingly.

This place is always five stars during the day. At night the food can vary in quality. Sometimes at night the food is not warm but in the day it’s Always amazing and piping hot. At night the staff turns up the music very very very loud and it seems more about them than the customers at that point. Tonight the food was good but the music drove me out.

Finally got around to trying this place. I ordered a regular carne asada burrito and it was excellent. The regular burrito is simple, prepared “mission style” with meat, whole pinto beans, rice, and pico de gallo. I got extra salsa and chips from their salsa bar: pico de gallo, a tomato based salsa roja, and what tasted like a fresh tomatillo salsa verde. Everything was very good. I will definitely be going back.

This place is fast and has good food. I like that they have a salsa bar and offer chips. Some of the salsa can get quite spicy too!

The chips and salsa are good. The rest of the food was ok but underwhelming, considering the recommendations received. Perhaps it was an off day for them. Make sure to check your order before leaving. One of the items was incorrect, unless the picture below is their version of a quesadilla.

Oh man its been a while since I ate at Taq Santa Cruz. I graduated Poly class of 16, so coming back, This location is new to me. With that said, My go-to order was always the chimichanga, and this time around was no different. I also picked up an horchata, as usual.
While the chimi was no longer priced below the Super burrito (they are equal now), it still hits just as good as it did those years ago, and while the value proposition is not as strong as it used to be, I still rank this as the top Chimichanga in it’s price bracket – and that’s saying something. Im from the Bay Area, and the Mexican food game is much more competitive up here. Most of the restaurants in SLO would not be able to compete, but If we’re specifically talking about the Chimi from Santa Cruz, it is best in class. Horchata was a bit on the thinner side, but it served the purpose, and was relatively good value. I don’t come down here often, but when I do, I make it a point to grab a chimichanga.
