Very cool, very teeny tiny ‘secret’ bar in the balcony of Dead Man’s Isle. Only 4 seats at the bar, so be sure to make a reservation!
We were lucky enough to saddle up to the bar on our latest visit to Astoria. We really enjoyed our cocktails and chats with the owner and bartender. They have an extensive whisky list and beautifully displayed toys. This small bar is packed with so much to see! Highly recommend if you can make it in on a weekend!

Oh man, this place is a hidden gem in Astoria. Yakimon is a secret bar upstairs from the already cool downstairs tiki bar at Deadman’s Isle. With just a few seats at the bar, surrounded by Japanese relics, and a great drink menu featuring whiskey highballs, sake, and specialty Japanese cocktails, it’s such a fun way to immerse in Japanese culture. The bartenders, especially Sam, are attentive and helpful, and the food menu kicks ass with potstickers, spam musubis, and yakisoba. It’s the only spot like it you’ll find on the North Coast.

Accidentally found this place on a Sunday night and so glad we did! I guess it’s a big display of the owners personal toy/dvd collection, and they also have a huge selection of Japanese whiskey and even several different types of Shochu. Bar snacks were also good, and bartender was really nice. It does have about 6 seats max, just like the Golden Gai Tokyo bars.

Dude. I’m not one for Ramen…. but this place was amazing. I got the spicey Ramen with meats, wife got the vegi. We got to sit at the window bar with the slider open to watch and feel the rain. Hot soup to keep us warm. Solid solid spot to eat. Staff was super fast and friendly. Older Hispanic dude explained what the best meal was for out taste buds. Man he was on point. If I ever come back to the city. I will go out of my way to eat here again. Nicely remodeled place too.

Love this hidden gem! Fabulous selection of Japanese whiskey and specialty sake. Intimate/cozy setting…not to mention the collection of Godzilla memorabilia and the best bartender in town!

We originally planned to go to Dead Man’s Isle only, but after talking to Debba when we stopped by Muntiki earlier in the day she mentioned a Japanese Bar upstairs and said we had to check it out when we went to Dead Man’s Isle that evening.

Boy were we surprised.

This little bar with 5 seats and a tiny bit of standing room was the highlight of our trip to Astoria. Cherry was an excellent host. We’ve both spent time in Japan so we got to reminisce about our time there. She was excited to talk about the sake/whisky collection and happy to make cocktails. It truly felt like we were in a back alley bar in Tokyo.

We can’t wait to come back.

Too little seating, but fun. You have to make reservations if you want any of the 4 seats there, or show up at odd hours.
This is inside the Dead Man’s Isle, so if you can’t find seating it is elsewhere. No matter what, you’ll find a place and drinks for a great time.

We couldn’t originally find the bar, didn’t realize it was the speakeasy within Dead Man’s Isle. We were so happy to find it bc Cherry was an awesome bartender! She listened to the types of whiskey that we like and suggested the perfect Japanese whiskys. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking to explore the Japanese whisky world without traveling across the ocean 🙂
