High Violet is a small upscale bar with a cozy, intimate vibe. I had the “The 12 Houses 14” cocktail, which was beautifully presented. I loved the tarot card detail.
The drink had great flavor and balance and the overall atmosphere felt elevated yet comfortable. Definitely worth a visit if you enjoy thoughtful cocktails and a refined setting.

Beautiful decor and atmosphere. As the DD on NYE I was happy to see the cocktails with * meant they could also be NA. Love that! My mocktails was ok, not great, not bad, just ok. Wish there were more NA options. Wonderful and attentive service. Be aware this place is very very small. The bigger room, has lovely couches around the walls. However you are facing strangers right in front of you, just a bit awkward. Great noise level for conversation.

I reserved the Jungle Room for my birthday celebration, but last minute we went from 7 to 12 people. They were so quick and accommodating, moving us to the Red Room without any hassle. The vibe was absolutely perfect, it felt like a little slice of a fancy NYC spot, tucked away in this Buffalo speakeasy. It truly brought my vision for the day to life: friendly staff, an incredible atmosphere, and great drink prices with amazing flavors. I couldn’t have asked for a better place to celebrate.

Came here because we heard it has “speakeasy” vibes. While the atmosphere is for sure unique amongst other Buffalo bars, I wouldn’t really say it’ like a speakeasy. The decoration seems more 1970s. The cocktails offered all seemed very intricate and had lots of ingredients and mixed alcohols. Many included vanilla. We got the Saturn and Pickaxe. The Saturn was very sour, and the Pickaxe was very bitter. The prices were quite high, but you are paying for the ambiance of your experience. The waitress was super attentive and cheerful, and you could also eat outside on the patio that is shared with No Fun.

Such a hidden gem, the cocktails were amazing, atmosphere was very suave, it’s what I imagine the now defunct Playboy Lounges of the 1960s were like back in their hayday, and the service was fantastic. Our server was Amira and she made our stop so memorable. The idea of the hiddenness of the High Violet helps promote the speakeasy atmosphere.

3rd time I’ve been here and EVERY SINGLE TIME I’m impressed. From the staff to the food to the atmosphere/mood. It a little swanky and a little dark inside, PERFECT for a first date or date night with your best friends! Cocktails take an extra few minutes but they are worth it! Every one is delicious and unique. The staff is outstanding (Jonah, has waited on us twice and he is absolutely delightful)
Order the fried bologna….I promise you this isn’t the sandwich you got in your lunch in 2nd grade.
Pork belly was DELICIOUS, it melted in your mouth.
Cheese board is standard but bug enough for 2-4 to share.

For the most part, this is a great spot with great staff. However, I had a serious issue involving one of the owners/investors, Barry Heneghan. In my experience, he brought a personal dispute into the business by telling employees he did not want me in the establishment. This was connected to a prior security-deposit dispute involving 78 West Holdings LLC and related entities.
My roommate and I challenged how our security deposit was handled, involved an attorney, and the deposit was eventually returned. I acknowledge that the issue was resolved, but the way it was handled created an unnecessary conflict.
Based on my experience, I believe his involvement reflects poorly on the organization and creates avoidable risk. In my opinion, the company would be better off without this type of conduct representing it

First off the vibe at High Violet is very cool so that should be noted upfront. we were able to be in a VIP room of sorts, but the outside space looks really nice to enjoy on a nice summer evening. Honestly the one star drop is purely for pricing. I understand upscale/elevated experiences, but $17 for fried bologna as a small plate just seems kind of crazy, haha. (I didn’t try it, to be fair so it could be worth it).
In terms of the drinks and the quality of the cocktails, hands-down some the best I’ve had in town. Big points for the Zombie, which is a delicious overproof cocktail.
I also tried to chocolate mousse desert which was tasty in it’s own right.
I’ve been want to check out this place since it opened and was able to do so my birthday and definitely recommend being somewhere to check out at least once.

My girls & I were made to feel like we were bothering the bartenders for wanting to order when it was no where near closing time. They had four behind the bar. One on dish, another on his phone, and the other two acting completely oblivious to our presence. After several attempts to get their attentions without being forceful, another staff member had to get one of the bartenders to take our orders after noticing us look around confused. It felt weird. When you have a bar full of white guest being catered to and we’re the only Black Women in the entirety of the space, it feels almost intentional. The bartender was super dismissive and hated having to greet us. Poured us all uneven shots, so when I went to ask him what’s up with that he rolled his eyes and stomped away. Overall ugly energy.
