5 stars! Excellent food and amazing staff! I had the chicken tikka over rice and buffalo chicken sandwich – both were BOMB! Highly recommend this spot for delicious halal food. Friendly service too!

Very clean, new spot. The folks that helped us were very helpful as we had questions about the options. We got a lamb over rice bowl and a pita, both of which were flavorful and of good portion size. The real star of the show were the fries, IMO. They have some sort of coating that adds a nice crisp and flavor while keeping a good skin to potato ratio. Will definitely go again.

I have never tasted mediterranean food until I walked into the Halal Shop. The food is not only tasty it looks and smells good. It’s always fresh and crunchy tasting. And not to mention , they have wonderful sauces that they put in their food that gives it just the perfect taste. And the staff gives you a family atmosphere of love. You don’t find that much anywhere. I would totally recommend everybody to stop at Halal Shopl to taste their food and say hi to Zoe , for me.

This place is amazing… if Anthony Bourdain had visited, it would sound something like this:
“Tucked away off Stockton Boulevard, in the long shadow of UC Davis Hospital, there’s a little halal spot you’d probably miss if you blinked. And that would be a mistake. It’s clean, quiet, no Instagram crowds, no foodie fanfare, just good, honest food made by people who give a damn.
The flavors are tight, sharp, and real. The kind of place where you grab a perfect falafel, sip an ice-cold green tea or boba, and remember that food doesn’t need a tasting menu or a trust fund to matter. It’s the kind of joint you stop at once, then start planning your week around. No pretense. No gimmicks. Just soul on a plate.”

I live in Oak Park and noticed Halal Shop as I was driving towards Broadway on Stockton. I immediately pulled over so my husband and I could grab a bite to eat. When we walked in, it looked very well put together, not like a mom and pop shop, so my first assumption that it was a franchise. The food was pretty good, what you would expect from a small, to-go, food shop. while that is correct, it is in paperwork only. I dug around on the internet to see whether or not it was a nationwide chain. What I found was that it was a two location franchise. That was odd to me. I went in the next day for lunch again, for my husband and I. We got variations of the same thing from the first day that we went for lunch. That visit, I was able to talk to the gentleman running the counter. He told me that the two locations that I found listed are owned by family members. so, and paperwork only, it is a franchise. They started out as a food truck for over 10 years, from what I can gather. I love being able to support local, small, family-owned businesses.
In regard to the food, my husband and I got the loaded fries, which is basically a gyro on a bed of fries without the pita bread. Husband got chicken and I got lamb. The second day, husband got lamb gyros and I got the loaded lamb fries. The lamb was a little dry both times and the fries, after being under sauce, and in moisture from the heat of the meat, weren’t crispy. I know this is a very particular preference, so the next time I will ask for the fries to be very well done so they can hold up under the environment.
What I was impressed with the most, was the customer service, and the freshness of the veggies on the food. I asked about the food source, and they use a Halal distributor. The gentleman shared with me that they have fresh/perishable ingredients delivered every few days. They don’t have ingredients sitting in their cold storage for weeks on end.
This was a perfect little place to grab a meal after being at the Med Center or DMV nearby. Highly recommend because of the customer service. Food is decent. It’s definitely mass produced, but it’s better than Sysco food.

They usually have NBA playing if you choose to dine in. Otherwise just a chill spot with good stuff on the menu that’s very affordable. Got the Lamb Gyro and Samosas this evening. Really cool neighborhood spot. Good support.

I drove a bit to come and try this place. It has alit of everything on the menu for everyone however they were out of a lot of things.l before we ordered and also after we ordered then we had to change items. It’s new so they might just be adjusting on the items. It might have been a bad day or something. Salad and chicken was good but the rice seems old and dry. Btw lamb over rice is gyro. There is plenty of tables but 2 or 3 chairs per table. Parking is very limited to few street parking. Restroom was clean and had soap and paper towels.

Go here. The gyro wraps are under $10, loaded with meat or falafel, and the spicy sauce is delicious. The samosa chaat (meaning samosas dressed up with veggies and sauces) are plump and crispy even for takeout. About $10 for those. The interior of the place is simple, plenty of casual seating, no frills.
Pita and hummus is great for kids.
And it’s fast. I ordered lunch for 4 adults yesterday and it was prepared in 10-12 minutes (great if you work nearby at the DMV or Med Center).
Glad to see a fresh restaurant liven up Stockton Blvd. I hope these guys stick around, we live in the neighborhood and will be back again.

I recently visited the Halal Shop and had a fantastic experience. The workers were incredibly nice and kind, making me feel welcome from the moment I walked in. The place itself was spotlessly clean and looked newly renovated, adding to the inviting atmosphere. I decided to try their chicken loaded fries, and they did not disappoint. The fries were deliciously crispy, topped with flavorful chicken and a perfect blend of toppings. Overall, I had a great time at the Halal Shop and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for tasty halal options in the area.
