My husband and I happened to be in the area and wanted to try the guisados. We’re vegetarian so the 3 veg taco options (potato, cauliflower, mushrooms) available were the only things we could order apart from a bean and cheese burrito.
The menu does change daily I believe, which for a restaurant preparing fresh local and “small batch” should have a revolving menu based on ingredients available and what’s seasonal.
At $4 per taco, it’s not expensive, but not cheap. We’re used to paying more for vegetables than meat everywhere anyways! I found the tacos on the salty side but still finished my meal. The taco filling portions were generous and the tortilla was delicious—-you can tell they’re handmade and fresh. Considering how juicy they are, maybe double up on the tortilla? Mine instantly fell apart and I ate it with a fork. Normally I hate double tortillas and end up discarding one layer, but here is where it would genuinely help. Also can use the additional tortilla to meter out the filling & guisado ratio.
The dining area is small but there was no one else inside while we ate.
Street parking.

I am in love with this little spot! The food is absolutely delicious!!! Fantastic homemade tacos and super tasty guisados. And the staff made such a huge impression on me! They were kind and patient while we drooled over the selections and tried to make our decisions. Each filling was carefully explained. No one made fun of my bad/incorrect pronunciation. They interacted with us with pride and care. Even though we were standing outside the shop eating, a staff member came out to check on us and chat a bit. The chef himself even popped his head out to see if we were doing okay. We had a great “snack” and walked away feeling so good about the entire experience. Kudos to the chefs, farmers and all the people who were involved! This will definitely be tops on my list on my next visit to San Diego!

The bomb!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Service was impeccable, I loved all the recommended tacos I tried. The tacos were bigger than I thought with all the scrumptious toppings and seasoned so well.

Both the corn tortillas and flour tortillas were so well made (freshly cooked) and the flavors and textures were just !!

The final touches with pickled onion, pumpkin seeds, and sesame seeds were also perfection.

Honestly the best quality tacos I’ve had after searching for good tacos in San Diego for a year. Finally we found legit guisado tacos!!!

(Vegetarian and vegan options available. The vegetarian papas taco was soooo good!!! So much flavors!!)

If you’re craving tacos that taste like they came straight from your mexican abuelitas kitchen, this farm-to-table spot is it. Their tacos varios are unbelievably fresh and full of flavor. Every bite tastes like true home style guisados, comforting, rich, and authentic. You can get the guisado in a taco or burrito. Today we tried a mole de guayaba which was so unique and delicious! Last week we got to try their mole verde which was also delicious! The staff is friendly and gives great recommendations. This will be our go to spot when we are in Escondido.

I saw this place thanks to social media a couple months ago and immediately went. This place is very small, so be aware of that.. also they do tacos or burritos. I don’t want going and then complaining in a review about something so silly. They make lots of strewed meats and they change their menu up. They do so many different varieties of moles if you catch them on the right day. Today, I caught them when they had chicken with verde mole. I had to catch myself before I inhaled the tacos. They were very delicious. Shout out to the pineapple drink they had on deck. One of the tacos was the chicken tingas and the other was the cochinitas. I am glad I ordered their last two double chocolate cookies, by far the best double chocolate cookies I have ever had. They have grown very popular and I they keep growing as a business.

Mesa Agricola is one of those rare little joints you sometimes get lucky enough to find. The food is incredibly delicious, you can smell, taste, and see the freshness of it. The menu changes daily to accommodate what is freshest from the farm, but I’ve heard there are some items that are around most of the time. My bestie and I went and each got tacos and all of them were amazing. My favorite was the pork and nopales one with Colorado sauce. The turkey mole was super good, we both got the chicken tinga and she also had a vegetarian nopales one. The beans and rice are flavorful and taste like your grandma just got done making them. The restaurant itself is tiny with a handful of tables, a few out on the sidewalk and a couple little bars outside as well. Dot panic if you see a line, they move quick. 🙂 Highly recommend and will definitely be back!

Super authentic and amazing.
Maybe it’s a placebo thing about being a “farm to table” restaurant but I actually felt really good after the meal where when I eat at most Mexican restaurants I’d feel super bloated or need a nap.

I love how their menu changes everyday but from what the workers told me there are a few that stick around pretty often. I would HIGHLY recommend the turkey mole taco/ burrito or the Jalisco steak taco/burrito. Both kinds of tortillas are made fresh and were so soft. Melted in my mouth. Will definitely come back to try more!

Get one of their juices too! So good.

We moved to Escondido three years ago and every day we look for new places to eat. And it’s so awesome because we find amazing treasures consistently. We eat 90% of the time at home because we love sourcing our food and we love to cook. And this is so much better in so many ways for a health conscious family.

Megan was so warm and inviting. It was nice to meet another family with young children. Our kids loved the brown butter sea salt, chocolate chip cookies…. But they also crushed two burritos. They are six and three and pretty darn picky.

But they know good food.

It was really awesome meeting a gentleman in there so excited that it was my first time there. And he said “you’ll be back and I’ll probably see you“.

I love knowing that there was a lot of heritage in the cooking. I did not get to meet Juan formally but I’ll be back 😉

My wife and I are really excited to bring my parents here. We love this find. And we will be back again and again.

I almost always post on this profile. But I left a review on my previous one and I wanted to share some love here as well.

As a business owner in this amazing town, we are always so grateful to meet other amazing businesses, especially startups.

Especially those that make amazing art with food. We ordered seven different burritos. We got beans and rice and we wish we got so much more although we could not even come close to finishing.

Our kids ate for longer than we did, which was awesome. It’s typically a good sign because they are very distinct about taste, but also quality and health.

Megan and staff were amazing. And even the patrons were so happy to be there. And so happy for me that it was my first time.

Welcome to the community guys! To all of your success. You have customers for life with our family and our business.

If I could give them 10 stars, I would. Mesa Agrícola is one of those rare places where everything aligns: ingredient integrity, execution, atmosphere, value, and heart. From the first bite of that perfectly made tortilla to the last sip of a fresh agua fresca (or whatever you pair it with), you feel like you’re part of something genuine.

I had the taco (yes, plural—you’ll want more than one) with a slow-cooked guisado filling that made the tortilla sing. The flavors were deep but not heavy, vibrant but familiar. You’ll catch yourself closing your eyes and nodding slowly because you just know: this is how tacos should be.

And beyond the food? The place feels like it’s powered by passion — from the chef’s background in Baja California to the local farming ethos. It’s not made for hype, it’s made for taste. The service was warm, unhurried, and sincere; the ambiance relaxed but elevated.

If you’re in Escondido (or willing to make the drive from San Diego) and you want a taco experience that will linger in your memory, this is it. Go hungry. Leave thrilled. I can’t wait to go back, and you should too.
