This was my first time visiting this spot in downtown Sunnyvale for lunch. This one is larger than San Carlos location if my memory is right. I have visited the ine in San Carlos couplecyears a go.The interior is simple and features a full bar. We were the only customers in the restaurant when we arrived, which initially made us wonder if we had made the right choice.
The menu offers plenty of variety. For appetizers, we tried the yucca, as well as the chicken and veggie empanadas. These were definitely the highlight–very tasty and well-prepared.
Unfortunately, the main courses didn’t quite live up to our expectation. While the presentation was nice, the flavor was just “so-so” and didn’t leave a lasting impression. Because the entrees were hit-or-miss, I’m not sure I’ll be returning.

The black paella was outstanding—rich, briny, and full of depth from the squid ink. The seafood was fresh and perfectly cooked, and the rice had excellent texture with flavor in every bite.
On top of that, the service was wonderful. The staff was attentive, friendly, and made the whole experience even better. Definitely a place I’d return to.

We ordered mini empanadas with our drinks – pretty good and baked fresh!
Main dish was Aji de Gallina – a large portion of chicken curry served with steam rice. It was mildly spiced but very satisfying meal, feels like home cooked comfort food.

Decent but unremarkable Peruvian food. The mini empanadas were dry and tasteless, til we used the yummy dipping sauce. Copa boracho was plentiful, flavorful and tart, topped with crispy calamari (which would’ve been better served on the side, with dipping sauce)…easily my favorite dish of the night. Peruvian paella, was a sloppy mess, with a couple of nice size shrimp, a couple of clams, one mussel and some chewy calamari. Oh, and several scallops the size of pencil erasers. Pescado a lo macho was very flavorful, but also a bit heavy with the cream sauce. A good portion of seafood, as opposed to the paella.

We visited Emelina’s for a Valentine’s Day late lunch/early dinner, hoping to avoid the crowds, and it turned out to be a lovely experience. The restaurant is very clean, the bathroom was spotless, and you can tell the team genuinely cares about their space. The staff were incredibly kind, polite, and welcoming. It really feels like a family-run place where everyone enjoys what they do.
They had a special Valentine’s menu, so I’m not sure how the portions and prices compare to regular days, but most of the dishes we tried were excellent. The Lomo Saltado was especially delicious (a bit salty, but in a way I personally enjoyed). The Chicken Causa was a pleasant surprise, it reminded me of Olivier Salad but elevated, beautifully presented, and full of flavor (loved the Aji Amarillo with it). The Classic Ceviche was fresh, tasty, and had a nice medium heat. Alfajores were fantastic too; soft, balanced, and melt-in-your-mouth good.
A couple of small things to be aware of:
The Mini Empanadas were not as impressive as the other dishes, the dough tasted more like filo, a bit thick and dry, and a couple of them still had slightly frozen filling. Hope they make them fresh on regular days. The sauce they came with was great, though.
Our fried plantains side was forgotten.
And while the Alfajores tasted amazing, they were served in a plastic to-go box, which felt a bit out of place for a Valentine’s meal; a plate would’ve made the experience feel more special.
Portions were enough but not as large as some reviews suggested. Still, we had a great time.

We had such a great experience here. Came here for a weekend dinner with 6 adults and 2 kids. The waiter we had went above and beyond with his service. He helped the kids w high chairs and waters in plastic cups. He helped us out w our birthday cake at the end of our meal and gave us dulce de leche cookies. I also forgot something at the table and he ran out after us into the street to give it to me. And of course all the food was so delicious. We ordered the ceviche, the bistec, the seafood stew, the lamb, and the halibut. All of it was cooked perfectly and had such good flavor. Would recommend!

Emelina’s Peruvian Restaurant was a welcome surprise. I had no expectations, but I do like Peruvian food. This is one of the best restaurants in the area. I don’t know why the place was empty, but it was delicious abs not too expensive. My coworker abs i races about the place. We can’t wait to return for lunch soon and try more dishes. Our food came out quickly and was cooked to perfection. The service was great as well. I highly recommend Emelina’s Peruvian for anyone who loves great food in a nice atmosphere. I’ll be back very soon. Parking is a bit challenging, but that is my only complaint. I regimen going now brie everyone recognizes how great this place really is.

This was our first time at this location, we have been to the other Emelina’s at Santa Clara and San Carlos. And this one in Sunnyvale is absolutely amazing! The food was so delicious, and rich in flavor and my man and I loved the ceviche clasico, tallarin verde con pollo a la plancha and aji de gallina. We also had the chicha morada which pairs really well with the food when you drink it, and it’s so refreshing. The lucuma ice cream was my favorite dessert, it was super sweet and creamy & I loved everything about this place and they play good music. The service is amazing and they’re very sweet and attentive. I would definitely recommend to go here if you’re looking for great Peruvian food for dinner or any time of the day or a nice date night spot like tonight. Thank you so much! 🙂
