The image is of the pulled pork sammich. Best pork I’ve had in a very long time. I had the 2 meat meal. The brisket was perfection! Dead soft, pulled apart with perfect bark and a flavor of hickory.
The baked beans have a bit of a vinegar profile, but also full of meat. Incredible!

The potato salad is not to be forgotten. While some places forget about it, this guy puts just as much into it as the brisket. It’s amazing. I can’t describe it well, but you need it!

It doesn’t get any better, folks. Just get you some.

Smelt great from the outside. Had to order food from the bar then take a seat after. Cutlery is plastic which we had to search for. The food was not good. Cold. Dry.Possible from the night before. Frozen food is being used. I had to force myself to try and eat it so we didn’t waste $50 bucks. Our beer was the only good thing. We didn’t know what to do with the plate/ trash. This place has potential if it had a a strong team.

WHAT HAPPENED?
I first visited 2 years ago and it was amazing. The Mac and cheese was good with crushed pork rinds on top. The potato salad had a really delicious smoky flavor and I got the half chicken that was great! You’d walk up to the line and watch them cut ypur meat in front of you.
Now I just visited expecting the same delicious food and the chicken was a quarter, the mac and cheese was a cheaper seeming version with no crushed rinds on top and the potato salad was store bought generic. That whole side that you could walk down the line and watch then cut your meat was torn down and empty.
I still have pictures of my food from then and the walking line, the difference is staggering from then to today.
Im just disappointed in my experience this year and miss the food and atmosphere that it was 2 years ago.

I really wanted to like this place a lot. Although there are some good things about Forrest Fire BBQ, there are also a few misses that make me think twice before returning.

First, let’s talk about the good. The atmosphere is great! It’s my kind of place, with counter service, beverage bar, interesting decor, and ample seating. The people serving us were also friendly and helpful. Their unsweetened iced tea was brisk and fresh. And the meat selections we chose were good: brisket and chicken. They also do not scrimp on portions, which is a good thing, and gladly give out to-go containers if you can’t finish your meal.

But besides the meat, I judge a barbecue place by the sides. On the positive side, Forrest Fire BBQ offers a nice variety of sides. Unfortunately, of the four sides we ordered, we really only liked two of them. The Po-Ta-Toe Salad and Crack-Mac were tasty, though the Po-Ta-Toe Salad was a touch on the salty side. The braised greens and baked beans seemed to be saturated with bourbon. To be fair, bourbon is not a taste I particularly enjoy, so if you are a bourbon fan you may have a completely different experience. But if the beans and greens had a touch of bourbon, I would not find them objectionable. But it just tasted like it had too much, which is a shame because my wife and I thought the beans and greens would be the star sides. After looking at Forrest Fire BBQ’s website, I think I understand the bourbon obsession. The owner describes himself as a “Kentucky boy” and he’s wearing a bourbon T-shirt. So as I mentioned earlier, if bourbon is in your collection of favorite tastes, this might really be your favorite restaurant on Hilton Head Island. If so, by all means, give it a try! I just wish they offered a de-bourbonized version of their sides. With that said, I wish all the best to Forrest Fire BBQ as they bring a Kentucky BBQ experience to the island.

As a transplanted Texan, and BBQ veteran, this place does not disappoint! Perfect brisket. Awesome sides. And you’ll find a sauce to suit your taste! In house smoked meats – perfectly cooked. Today was our first time to try and we will definitely be back!!

Service was fine, atmosphere was nice, food was awful. thick slices of brisket that were mostly all fat, pulled pork was cold and dry and my daughter asked, “why are my chicken fingers wet?” Cheep plastic forks broke when trying to to cut food – it was not a good dinning experience.
The staff was nice and service was good, but sadly, we were really disappointed in all the food we ordered.

Food was delicious, cooked very well, i’m from ga so i’ve had a lot of bbq but this place surprised me. decent price point, and good portions, i had pork sandwich with slaw pickles and crack mac. The gentleman who took my order was helpful, kind and professional. I’ll def be back when i return in a few months. my only issue was there was an event and the ppl running it were blocking me and others from getting to the restaurant so i had to explain i wasn’t apart of that for him to move a gate and allow me to pass, i thought they should set that up elsewhere bc that was a deterrent, not the restaurants fault of course

We were looking dinner option and saw this place. The food was great for price and portion. You order at the counter and enjoy your food at the table. The staff explained the menu and how it works. We ordered 2 pulled pork sandwiches, ribs and side of mac and cheese. Everything was delicious and the portion was good for 3 adults and 2 kids.
They had clean eating area and evening restrooms.
Definitely coming back when we visit Hilton Head Island next time.

Found this place through a recommendation from a local. They said it was the best BBQ on the island, and they were not kidding! The portion sizes were also great, had to take half home with me to enjoy for dinner. You can’t really tell from the photo but the meat was absolutely packed onto my plate. The very kind worker also gave me and my husband two different types of pickles when I told him that we were huge pickle fans! Will definitely be back next year.

We ate at Forrest Fire BBQ for the first time on 8/17/23, and we really enjoyed it! We went for a late lunch and were a little concerned that we were the only people in the restaurant at that time, but our worries quickly vanished. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful with explaining the menu and confirming which items were gluten-free, a must for Celiac sufferers like myself and my daughter. I ordered “Bub’s Pick” – a plate with two meats and two sides. I chose the pulled pork and the brisket, both of which were delicious. My wife got the chicken and loved it. The portion sizes are ridiculously generous – in hindsight, my wife and I could have shared the “Bub’s Pick” plate and probably would still have had some food leftover, but that’s OK – I enjoyed my leftovers for dinner the next day!

My only suggestion to the management would be to mark the entry doors a little more clearly about where/how to enter – when we first walked up to the exterior doors, we thought maybe the restaurant was closed because the doors appear to be set up as automatic sliders, but they did not open. Apparently they have to be slid open manually (at least for the time being), which was not obvious from the outside, and this might be accidentally turning some customers away by making them mistakenly think the restaurant is not open.

Overall, we had a great dining experience at Forest Fire BBQ and I would definitely recommend it to anyone who enjoys barbecue.
The restaurant has a really cool atmosphere, and I liked that you order at the counter rather than having to be waited on. We will definitely be back during our next trip to Hilton Head!
