A restaurant designed to casually spoil you with great locally sourced oysters and other fabled bounty from the region. We pair this with our favorite wines from near and far + fun cocktails and local beer. (Our menu does include items for those whom might not love shellfish as much as we do.) We work with 20 + farms and source the majority of our menu within 50 miles of our restaurant.
*We unfortunately do not have a patio large enough for dogs.
*We cannot fit parties larger than 6 in our restaurant.
*We have a small format kitchen which means we encourage our guests to enjoy sharing all their plates together. Entrees will not be delivered at the same time.

Had an amazing meal here. Local Oysters & ling cod sliders, baby gem salad. The cocktails were amazing too; one had Liliac and the other nettels forged from the island. Everything was delicious & local. The service was wonderful. Sat outside and had a lovely evening. Thank you so much!

Foodies will delight in this wonderful gem of a restaurant. Local fare, lovingly plated like artwork. Everything was incredibly flavorful and a true joy to eat. I used a spoon for every last bite! The variety of fresh oysters recommended to me were excellent – briny, creamy and shucked at the bar for viewing. I thoroughly enjoyed my halibut (Catch of the Day) loaded with fresh, local garden flavors. And my husband’s lamb was cooked to perfection with a lovely cherry sauce and shoestring potatoes atop. Desserts were equally delicious, with such lively berry flavor that I felt I had just picked them myself. Our server was warm, friendly and offered the perfect amount of guidance and table-side banter. O Y S T E R T A L E is a joy and not to be missed! As an aside, we were catching a 6.45 ferry so we parked the car in line at 4.30, walked over for dinner at 5, and had time to eat and enjoy a short walk in town before getting back in the car for the ferry queue.

Great spot near the ferry with indoor and outdoor seating. Lots of fun and unique dishes. Oysters are fresh, locally sourced and really delicious – even for folks who haven’t tried raw oysters before. The whipped feta with honey had a bit of spice to the honey and was yummy. Potato waffles, land board and smoked salmon chowder were also very tasty. I suggest ordering lots of different items to share so you can get a taste of everything. The staff were helpful with suggestions and really friendly. A must do when visiting Friday Harbor.

We stopped in without a reservation for a drink and appetizer. We were able to immediately sit at the bar and had incredible service. Excellent selection of local oysters, wine, and beer. The salmon chowder was incredible as well.
A bit spendy but you definitely get what you pay for here. A great spot for a date night.

Oystertale in Friday Harbor offers a delightful and memorable dining experience. It deserves high praise for its fresh, locally sourced seafood, creative dishes, and attentive service. Definitely highlight the exquisite oysters and the unique flavor combinations in dishes like the Dungeness crab waffle and Lingcod Sliders.

Portions were very small. Even the carbs such as fries were comparable to a McDonald’s medium fries (obviously this restaurant had better quality). Their entrees typically don’t come with sides which is disappointing to see. I ordered salmon which was honestly too much protein and unbalanced due to lack of sides.

Do not miss this place! Just steps from the ferry terminal in downtown Friday Harbor, this is a cozy restaurant with highly-inventive dishes, great cocktails and impeccable service. Because seating is limited, you may have to wait a bit during peak hours, but it’s absolutely worth it. They use local (SJI) ingredients and support local farmers, and it shows. And don’t miss the dessert, including local ice creams!

Awesome vibes, awesome wine list. Oysters were superb but this was expected. We were more impressed with all the other dishes- San Juan salad, purple clams, pork chop, and blackberry cobbler were all outstanding. Best food we had during our stay on the island.

What a treat! Happened to drop in on their official reopening and enjoyed a great 5 course meal. Excellent food quality and customer service. Locally sourced ingredients that were fresh and delicious. The salmon chowder was exceptional, thick and chunky pieces of salmon and crab. The owner stopped by our table to say hello and welcome us. A must visit if you’re in Friday Harbor.

We had a fantastic dinner at Oyster Tale in Friday Harbor. The sourdough bread (ordered separately) was light and airy, with whipped butter that we devoured instantly.
We kept it light after a day of travel (airplane – bus – ferry) with the fried oyster salad and the San Juan Island salad. Both were outstanding! The oysters were tender and perfectly fried and the island salad was fresh and beautifully balanced.
The service was excellent! Highly recommend!
