While visiting my mom in the area, we stopped in for a treat during lunch hour. Service was prompt and full of southern hospitality. The restaurant was clean and orderly. There were many dining with family enjoying burgers, shakes and ice cream. Our waitress was excellent. Mom decided on a chocolate ice cream cone since she ate prior to us arriving and I had the Pimento Cheeseburger and onion rings. Food was piping hot, made to order and delivered promptly. I adore the old fashioned 60’s diner decor and will be visiting regularly when visiting mom.

Today was my second visit to this Hwy 55. It was nearly a year ago when I first showed up here with co-workers. Back then, I had Carolina Classic with regular size tater tots. Both were good. So was the overall experience. I decided to come back today and try out the shrimp burger.
When I showed up, there was a couple waiting in line at the cashier station. It was unmanned so we waited for the next available server to be done serving at the tables. One said that she’d be there soon to get their take-out orders. So I went to an available seat at the counter because I wanted to dine in. When it didn’t appear that the server was taking any orders from customers at the counter, I went back to wait in line at the cashier station.
I did not see a menu on the wall. Not a good thing when one has to order at the cashier station. It was at least 5 minutes before I was helped. The server looked at my baffled face and asked if I needed a menu. When she was available again to help a few minutes later, I ordered a lil’ size shrimp burger and tater tots. When she asked about choice of drink, I declined thinking it was a separate charge. It had been a year. I forgot that the Classic Eats combo meal included a drink, and didn’t notice that the menu said so. The server did not point out that the drink was included.
Since I ordered at the cashier, my order was served in a brown paper bag. The shrimp burger was wrapped in aluminum foil, and the tater tots in a paper box. No basket trays with paper liners like last year’s order, or the orders of customers sitting next to me. I enjoyed the shrimp sandwich but was unhappy with the experience overall. After finishing my order, I could not find a trash receptacle to dispose the paper bag, foil and box. I threw them in a trash bin outside. A minor quip about the men’s restroom: the toiler paper dispenser was lopsided but was otherwise functioning properly.
There aren’t any fast food places in the area that serves shrimp burgers. So if you want one, you are stuck with Hwy 55. Otherwise, I don’t recommend this place.

I had the philly cheesesteak sandwich with onion wings and it was one of the best I’ve ever had. The bread was so fresh and soft, with plenty of meat and onions and peppers. The onion rings had just the right amount of batter on them. Our waitress was friendly and fast. And we were able to carry on a conversation. I would differently go back.

We were driving 85 and searched “Food near me” and found this restaurant which was wonderful! Everyone was very friendly, kept our drink glasses full, and got our order to us so quickly, they must have started cooking the second we ordered. It was also delicious! I asked our server for a suggestion, and she mentioned the chicken sandwich with John boy and Billy sauce, bacon, lettuce and tomato on Texas toast, with a side of tots, and she was spot on! I got the chicken grilled instead of fried, and it was perfectly seasoned/cooked. My husband got the burger with almost the same fixings as my sandwich(no tomato), and while it was good too, the chicken was way better. However, he got the onion rings so we could try both, and if you only can pick one, I’d go onion rings. They definitely seemed fresh, not frozen, and were cooked perfectly golden with the right amount of actual whole onion. If you’re looking for a quick and delicious sandwich, this is your place.

The food was decent, although improving the quality of the buns would have raised the score to a 4*. The service was exceptional from the moment we walked in to the constant refills on our drinks. I also applaud the servers working as a team to get things done, we had at least three different servers at various points. Thr atmosphere was fun and just what you’d expect from a 50s diner. Another star would have been there if the table wasn’t wobbly and the music matched the decor.

7 stars for service. I didn’t even make it to the door and there was an employee opening the door for my mother inlaw and I. When we entered every employee greets you, cooking and wait staff. Not being from the area, traveling from Maine, these are some of the kindest and helpful people ever. I asked if they had food to go and they offered me a seat at the counter to look at a menu that was handed to me as soon as I was butt in seat. My mother inlawn shuffled off to use the restroom; which by the way got rave reviews for the size, cleanliness and use for a elderly handi-capable person.
Menu was easy to read.
Placed the order.
2 hot dogs with mustard and large fries.
1 chili dog and fries.
2 chili dogs with chili, cheese and onions. Plus 2 Dr Peppers and a Root Beer.
While I was waiting on, Food and Mother inlaw the 3 wait staff not only took time to talk to an outsider they were working all the tables.
On cue. The food arrived in paper bags and the Mother inlaw emerged from restroom.
Without even given a chance to ask for help there was someone standing by to open the door as we slowly stepped out into the heat and humidity.
I actually felt sad that I didn’t get to enjoy a meal in their establishment of happiness and tasty food.

The wait staff was very friendly, the restaurant has a neat diner vibe. I was a little surprised at the portion size for the burgers and fries (on the small side but probably more healthy). The food tastes great. We were at the Tesla Charger and they were just opening at 11am. We needed to use the bathrooms and decided to stay for an early lunch. We opened the place up and everyone was friendly, that’s exceptional.

My husband & I enjoyed lunch at this little diner – located in an outside shopping area – very convenient to a major interstate & a few steps from a Walmart- reminds of luncheon counters in the past. Our server was friendly- energetic- good food- I had a small cheeseburger & Tatar tots & hubby had 2 hot dogs and Tatar tots – -Served fresh & hot – server seats available at the counter & some booths- maximizing the space. It had a great vibe- the manager looked happy – the cooks were smiling – it seemed an atmosphere of exuberance. Looking forward to a return visit to try the ice cream & custards. There is a drive thru on the side on building.Reasonable pricing – An enjoyable experience!

We love the food and service at Hwy 55! Have been to this location many times and it never disappoints. My favorite is the philly cheesesteak with a side of cheese fries. And a Mug root beer! The shakes are delicious too!

This throw back burger and shake joint was off the chain!!! I had the pimento bacon burger and their homemade onion rings. Both of which are top 5 for me! It’s hard to find good homemade onion rings anymore and you local folk are lucky!! Thanks for the great experience as I hopped off the highway on the way through.
