When we first arrived at The Soul Spot, beautiful, soulful music met us at the front door. We were greeted at the hostess station by a kind cashier named Kyra. After being seated, we were warmly welcomed at our table by an amazing, attentive waitress named Valerie. I was having a conversation with my family about an item that I wanted and our waitress delivered the item to our table in less than five minutes. She was also attentive enough to anticipate needs before we asked. The Soul Spot was reminiscent of really delicious homemade Sunday dinners because everyone at our table was satisfied with their food. I even had the opportunity to meet a young lady named Lisa who informed me that there are future plans for live entertainment at the Soul Spot. There was a space decorated really cute, which we used as a picture backdrop. There were three different seating areas for dine in at the restaurant. We visited and created many beautiful family memories at the Soul Spot, Saturday, October 18, 2025. It is a great place to enjoy eating great food, listening to great music, receiving great service and making great memories!

We enjoyed these meals as a family of three:
I enjoyed the #10: Salmon Philly Cheese Sandwich

My Husband enjoyed the Catfish/Wings Dinner with Collard Greens and Candied Yams.

His Cousin enjoyed the Catfish Dinner with Candied Yams, Macaroni and Cheese.

Soul Spot is a whole experience.

From the moment you walk in, you can feel the love in the food. Everything tastes like it was cooked with intention, seasoning is on point, and the portions are generous. The soul food here is rich, comforting, and full of flavor—exactly how it’s supposed to be.

The atmosphere is welcoming, the staff is friendly and make you feel like family and the food comes out hot and fresh every time. Whether you’re craving classic comfort dishes or just need a meal that feels like home, Soul Spot delivers.

This is definitely one of those places you keep coming back to and put everyone else onto. That’s why I’m here every week!!! Highly recommend ️

The staff were welcoming and friendly. I feel terrible because I really wanted to share our server’s name (a Beautiful Queen that made our load a little liter. Thank you! ) but we have been dealing with some heavy issues this past week. That being said this was the first day in several days that wasn’t fast food or vending machines. This was come on in take a load off, enjoy old school music, relax, recharge and fill your body with mama’s love language (Good Food). It wasn’t busy the day we had the pleasure of dining and honestly we needed that. We look forward to several return visits with more people. Now to our meal we went for the catfish, collard greens, cornbread candied yams, and macaroni and cheese. The fish was fried to perfection. The candied yams took me to mama’s lap. I didn’t even realize I didn’t ask for tomatoes or sweet pickles with my collard greens. I had a sample of the macaroni and cheese; that was also on point.
I can’t wait to go back and try the shrimp and grits. Do yourself a favor and check it out before you need a reservation to get in.
P.S. stared eating before I remembered to snap a picture. It was delicious!

Tried this place and it was definitely a bad experience.
It was freezing in the place!
Didn’t have their speciality dish of the day ( meatloaf) didn’t have pretty much anything we were trying to order.
The one thing my son did opt to order
Which was the Joke (Jerk) chicken n shrimp pasta-

But just a bowl of pasta!!!
Like they just dumped the box of pasta in a pot, drained it- then put it in a bowl!
No flavor what’s ever!
The two shrimp they gave were spoiled!
The one piece of chicken was a joke!
My Yams were cold!
The greens tasted old and funny-
The fried chicken lacked flavor-
The beans & rice no flavor-
The only thing was good was the grilled fish-

It took over an hour for this sub-par food-

Oh and the fried green tomatoes were a joke!!!

The owner came to the table asked my son why didn’t he eat his food, he stated he didn’t like it-
She did ask him if he wanted something else but we already waited over an hour for the things we ordered and was ready to to get out of there!!!

She didn’t offer to take it off the bill I had to ask!

After wanting to try this place upon opening-
It was very disappointing-

The ambience just wasn’t there, and the aroma didn’t make me excited about the food—like walking into grandma’s kitchen without the comforting smells that should stop you in your tracks. Some items weren’t available, but the booth seating was low and uncomfortable, especially if you have knee issues. The only items that came out hot were the fries and chicken, which were just okay. Service needs improvement—I had to ask for basics like napkins, condiments, and drink refills, plus there was water dripping from the ceiling and the waitress reached over my food to clear plates. Honestly, a cafeteria-style setup, where customers can see and smell the food before ordering, might make this place much more appealing. After waiting so long for a soul food restaurant in this area, I had higher expectations.

The Soul Spot in Aurora (formerly Mandy’s in Bolingbrook) has kept the same style of food. Still pretty average overall. I ordered the smothered pork chops with greens and dressing and ended up waiting about 35 minutes for my meal.

The service, though, was the highlight. Very attentive and welcoming. You can instantly tell who “momma” is. She’s warm and makes you feel at home. The atmosphere gives that “after church, grab a plate because you don’t feel like cooking” kind of vibe. There’s also a bar area that isn’t open yet, which might add more to the experience once it is.

Overall, the food didn’t wow me, but the service and hospitality stood out. It’s an okay spot if you’re in the mood for a familiar soul food setting.

Absolutely amazing soul food! The fried lobster tails were perfectly crispy and flavorful, the mac & cheese was rich and creamy, and the candied yams and cornbread were pure comfort food. Everything tasted fresh and made with real care. Great portions, great flavor, and a great experience overall. Definitely coming back!

I went to Soul Spot today and Absolutely Was Floored by the -Food, -Vibes and -People.
When you walk in, it’s a grand space and you can smell the food coming into the place. You’re warmly welcomed and given time to choose what you want
I ordered the 1 catfish filet & 4 shrimp with 2 sides: sweet potatoes & macaroni and cheese.
First, the catfish was phenomenal. Fresh and hot. Seasoning was very good and tasty. The fish literally was so tender and delicious.
Second, the sides. The sweet potatoes were really good, soft potatoes and flavorful. The macaroni was cheesy, hot, and a kick in the seasoning.
I also ordered the lemonade and it was really good too
I spoke with a few of the people there, they are very sweet and funny to be around
They definitely have a new customer and I will anyone who asks about this place!
Will be back!

We loved this place when it was in Bolingbrook and ordered from there all the time. I’ve been watching the reviews and a bit concerned but took a chance and ordered from there last night. Delivery was very quick. Food was still hot. Pinto beans were excellent. Catfish had a very good flavor but could have been fried just a little harder. Mac and cheese had a good taste but was too dry for me. Overall. We were satisfied and will try it again. Just need a couple tweaks and it would be a five.

The food was absolutely amazing and Val and Niah were amazing hostesses!! They were so kind and attentive and kept us updated on our order. We had fried chicken, the mac and cheese, yams, and cornbread. So good! The entire staff was super kind— the food took a bit of time to come out but they were making it fresh so that’s to be expected! I would add pictures of my food but I’ll be honest, was too busy eating to take a pic. Will be coming again soon 🙂
