This is a fantastic refresh of the Connaught with grandmother still cooking, and other family serving. They are all so charming and attentive. I’m not an expert on Indian cuisine, but I know what’s delicious. We had the Shrimp Pakora, Tandoori Chicken Tikka. And Lamb Vindaloo. You get bottomless rice, an order of naan and even complimentary butter chicken. All of it was fantastic. The decor is cozy and modern. Around 24 seats and it’s busy on weekends.

Incredible food and true hospitality

Not only did they accommodate us without a reservation after we explained we had to eat quickly to catch our ferry, but they absolutely nailed it. The service was fast and genuinely kind, without ever feeling rushed.

And the food… so good. Everything tasted incredibly fresh, the rice was bottomless, the curries were rich and delicious, and honestly, the best samosas I’ve had in a long time.

This is the kind of hospitality you don’t come across these days. We’ll definitely be back.

Thanks again for accommodating us! You guys were the best

I want to share an honest concern about this restaurant. While the food may taste fine, the way management treats its staff is troubling. Workers here—mostly foreign workers—are not being paid proper wages. They are reportedly not receiving minimum wage or tips, and management continues to hire only foreign staff for both the kitchen and front of house.

Please be aware that any tip you leave here does not go to the servers or the hardworking kitchen staff. The people preparing and serving your food are not benefiting from your generosity.

I strongly encourage the owners to start paying fair wages and tips to their staff, who work extremely hard every day. Until then, I would recommend customers not to leave tips here, since they don’t reach the workers.

Clay Oven Pot is an absolute gem! The food here is incredibly tasty — full of rich, authentic Indian flavors that really hit the spot. Every dish is made fresh and served with care. You can really taste the difference!

The restaurant is in a beautiful location, making the whole experience even better. Whether you’re dining in or grabbing takeaway, the atmosphere is welcoming and the service is friendly.

If you’re craving flavorful Indian food in a great setting, Clay Oven Pot is the place to go. Highly recommended — I’ll definitely be coming back!

This place is a hidden gem, the decor, service and food is top notch. The refreshed look is amazing. Haven’t seen a place in the area that comes close to this. Was there a few nights ago and the food was phenomenal. The young server was so friendly and had impressive customer service skills for what you get anywhere else now a days, we had many pleasant conversations with her. It’s the same owners as previous but have handed it down to the son who has stepped up everything on multiple levels. The mom is still there helping in the kitchen who is the sweetest lady ever. Can’t rave about the food enough. Definitely will be coming back as this is my new favourite restaurant in town.

We recently had the pleasure of meeting friends for early dinner at Clay Oven, an Indian restaurant tucked away in the heart of Tsawwassen city centre, with plenty of free parking. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with the warmth and welcoming of the Indian culture. It’s a smaller restaurant that holds about 20 people maybe a bit more and boasts a newly renovated interior that is fresh and bright during the day, lovely ambient lighting as it gets dark, has a lit feature, faux living wall, comfortable seating, all new dinnerware, flatware and glasses.

Service:
This is a family owned and operated business for over 25 years. “Momma” Satbir and “Son” Harpo provided exceptional service. Harpo served us and made great menu recommendations after listening intently to our likes and dislikes. He was genuinely passionate about the food which made the experience even more enjoyable. Momma works in the kitchen and came out for a bit to sit and chat with us and other customers who were regulars…just like being at home.

Food:
The menu is quite extensive offering something for everyone, including different levels of spice (heat) and is served family style, in serving dishes on the table to help yourself. The meal starts with Papadums, a delicious flavorful and light cracker while dinner is being prepared. We would highly recommend all the dishes we had and look forward to trying new items now that we have had the Mixed Grill. We had: Roti, Chicken Saag (we ordered medium heat), Aloo Gobhi, a vegetarian dish of potatoes (aloo), and cauliflower (gobhi) and Indian spices, Mixed Grill which is served with Naan, bottomless Rice bowl and Butter Chicken Sauce. This is a great platter if you want to sample several different Indian foods offered on the menu. Everything complemented each other and there was plenty of food for all 4 of us with big appetites. Very reasonably priced especially given the amount of work that goes into making traditional Indian food.

Dessert:
We weren’t going to have dessert but ended up sharing Ras Malai (homemade cheese dessert with cold pistachio, sprinkled with rose petals) and Kheer (sweet rice pudding with raisins and Cardamom, also sprinkled with rose petals). Both excellent and a real treat!

Alcohol:
Reasonably priced. Harpo makes a great vodka martini, and we had their very good white House Wine on Happy Hour.

Overall Experience:
We would highly recommend Clay Oven to anyone looking for delicious, traditional Indian food in a comfortable and inviting setting. The combination of excellent service, mouthwatering food, and a relaxed atmosphere makes it an ideal spot for both casual dinners and special occasions. We will definitely be back!

Oh, and yes Momma does have a traditional Clay Oven in the kitchen to prepare some of the food.

Small family-run restaurants provide an experience and quality that cannot be found elsewhere. I had to wait for a ferry and found this gem not too far from the terminal. There are so many menu choices and the flavors and spices are some of the best I’ve had. The service was personal and the space has been recently renovated.

I recommend the Clay Oven without hesitation.

We had the pleasure of a wonderful dinner tonight. The food was amazing as always but to add to that we had so much fun talking to the people that make this the special place it is. Mom’s the cook, son operates the business and our server was outstanding. Thank you

I was craving some biryani today and ordered the “lamb” birayani at Clay Oven and found it quite underwhelming. The rice was moist but was still cooked evenly , the masala lacked refinement, and there were far too many pieces of capsicum along with skimpy pieces of lamb. The lamb was soft, but it was clear it hadn’t been baked together with the rice — not “dumbed” in the traditional biryani sense.

To be honest, it felt more like a fried rice than true biryani. I even came across a ball of tamarind with its seed in my serving, which was disappointing and careless. The cilantro sprinkled on top looked stale, and overall, the dish lacked heart and technique.

Note to the public: Don’t be fooled by the reviews. For those who know how authentic biryani is made, it’s a slow, detailed process where the meat is marinated well in advance and rice are cooked together, sealing in the flavors so they infused into the rice as well.

I don’t intend to harm the restaurant’s reputation, but such a high rating feels unjustified when chefs elsewhere are working hard to keep biryani true to its tradition. If you want recommendations for places that make authentic biryani, let me know.

Hope Indian restaurants give you a , less watered‑down experience . This isn’t about toning down the spice, but about the quality, technique, and produce used .

Thanks for trying and being accessible . The birayani did reach surprising fast while I ordered it on delivery .

This review is still based on one dish and I may still give the other dishes a try that are not as time consuming as authentic birayani and thereby less prone to what can be perceived to the uninitiated as nitpicking.

Next – mutton rogan josh perhaps …
