Reviews
Not only did they accommodate us without a reservation after we explained we had to eat quickly to catch our ferry, but they absolutely nailed it. The service was fast and genuinely kind, without ever feeling rushed.
And the food… so good. Everything tasted incredibly fresh, the rice was bottomless, the curries were rich and delicious, and honestly, the best samosas I’ve had in a long time.
This is the kind of hospitality you don’t come across these days. We’ll definitely be back.
Thanks again for accommodating us! You guys were the best
Please be aware that any tip you leave here does not go to the servers or the hardworking kitchen staff. The people preparing and serving your food are not benefiting from your generosity.
I strongly encourage the owners to start paying fair wages and tips to their staff, who work extremely hard every day. Until then, I would recommend customers not to leave tips here, since they don’t reach the workers.
The restaurant is in a beautiful location, making the whole experience even better. Whether you’re dining in or grabbing takeaway, the atmosphere is welcoming and the service is friendly.
If you’re craving flavorful Indian food in a great setting, Clay Oven Pot is the place to go. Highly recommended — I’ll definitely be coming back!
Service:
This is a family owned and operated business for over 25 years. “Momma” Satbir and “Son” Harpo provided exceptional service. Harpo served us and made great menu recommendations after listening intently to our likes and dislikes. He was genuinely passionate about the food which made the experience even more enjoyable. Momma works in the kitchen and came out for a bit to sit and chat with us and other customers who were regulars…just like being at home.
Food:
The menu is quite extensive offering something for everyone, including different levels of spice (heat) and is served family style, in serving dishes on the table to help yourself. The meal starts with Papadums, a delicious flavorful and light cracker while dinner is being prepared. We would highly recommend all the dishes we had and look forward to trying new items now that we have had the Mixed Grill. We had: Roti, Chicken Saag (we ordered medium heat), Aloo Gobhi, a vegetarian dish of potatoes (aloo), and cauliflower (gobhi) and Indian spices, Mixed Grill which is served with Naan, bottomless Rice bowl and Butter Chicken Sauce. This is a great platter if you want to sample several different Indian foods offered on the menu. Everything complemented each other and there was plenty of food for all 4 of us with big appetites. Very reasonably priced especially given the amount of work that goes into making traditional Indian food.
Dessert:
We weren’t going to have dessert but ended up sharing Ras Malai (homemade cheese dessert with cold pistachio, sprinkled with rose petals) and Kheer (sweet rice pudding with raisins and Cardamom, also sprinkled with rose petals). Both excellent and a real treat!
Alcohol:
Reasonably priced. Harpo makes a great vodka martini, and we had their very good white House Wine on Happy Hour.
Overall Experience:
We would highly recommend Clay Oven to anyone looking for delicious, traditional Indian food in a comfortable and inviting setting. The combination of excellent service, mouthwatering food, and a relaxed atmosphere makes it an ideal spot for both casual dinners and special occasions. We will definitely be back!
Oh, and yes Momma does have a traditional Clay Oven in the kitchen to prepare some of the food.
I recommend the Clay Oven without hesitation.
To be honest, it felt more like a fried rice than true biryani. I even came across a ball of tamarind with its seed in my serving, which was disappointing and careless. The cilantro sprinkled on top looked stale, and overall, the dish lacked heart and technique.
Note to the public: Don’t be fooled by the reviews. For those who know how authentic biryani is made, it’s a slow, detailed process where the meat is marinated well in advance and rice are cooked together, sealing in the flavors so they infused into the rice as well.
I don’t intend to harm the restaurant’s reputation, but such a high rating feels unjustified when chefs elsewhere are working hard to keep biryani true to its tradition. If you want recommendations for places that make authentic biryani, let me know.
Hope Indian restaurants give you a , less watered‑down experience . This isn’t about toning down the spice, but about the quality, technique, and produce used .
Thanks for trying and being accessible . The birayani did reach surprising fast while I ordered it on delivery .
This review is still based on one dish and I may still give the other dishes a try that are not as time consuming as authentic birayani and thereby less prone to what can be perceived to the uninitiated as nitpicking.
Next – mutton rogan josh perhaps …
