I love fried whiting made from fresh fish (not frozen in a bag) with a light, flaky batter and perfectly seasoned. That is exactly what I received. It was delicious! The mac and cheese was very cheesy and tasted great. The collard greens were sweet, which was a different interpretation for me. It didn’t matter because I tore them up too! I appreciate when a restaurant doesn’t use canned greens. My teen daughter had the lemon pepper chicken with fries. She is a foodie like her momma. She tore that whole meal down to the bare bones. She said it was a 10 out 10. I wish this establishment much success. The owner was polite and pleasant. The meals are made to order which means you have to be patient while it is being cooked just for you. Trust, the food is well worth the wait. Enjoy! God bless!

I was craving some soul food while visiting my family in town and saw this spot while driving by. I highly recommend visiting this restaurant!! The fried fish was perfectly crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. The candied yams were sweet and flavorful, and the potato salad was creamy just the way I like it. The staff was also very friendly and provided great customer service, I will definitely come back again.

My wife and I stopped in for lunch this afternoon, seeking a taste of the South as an antidote to a frigid, cold afternoon. Mission accomplished on the food front; we both enjoyed delicious fried chicken, gooey and tasty mac & cheese, and greens, all prepared perfectly.
While there, we witnessed an act of human kindness by the owner that filled our souls with a much-needed reminder that there are still good people in this world.
Bellys and souls filled… can’t ask for much more! We will be back,

It has been awhile since I have had good soul food. Thank the heavens there is one near me in Dutchess County now. This is a must go for anyone looking for great soul/comfort food. Collard greens, Mac N’Chz, and Fried Chicken were on point. Oh the music brought me back to high school and college. New lunch spot.

Hands down, some of the best food I’ve had recently! I have been craving some good comfort southern food for a very long time and this restaurant was highly recommended. They use the freshest ingredients and make sure each dish is done the right way. The food placement shows the care and dedication that goes into preparing each meal. The fried chicken with collards and mac and cheese was especially memorable the catfish and potatoe salad exquisite taste! I also ordered some grits, and normally I am very hesitant on grits, not at Shirley’s! Every bite was bursting with flavor! A definite Must try! The owner Odessa speaks to every customer that comes in and truly has a love for cooking and it shows in the taste of every item! I wish I could give more stars!
Often we read reviews and immediately count businesses out, give Shirley’s a try for sure! You will not be disappointed. It was a large order for 8 people, we did not wait long for our food, great conversation as we waited- complimentary drinks and also let us have a few samples of what was available !!
10000000/10 for sure!

Empanadas were a little pricey for what they were but flavor was good. Fried chicken had a surprisingly juicy breast but lacking in seasoning. Mashed potatoes were really good. Mac and cheese was average.

For starters, I would like to preface I cannot truly rate on service or atmosphere as this was fulfilled via GrubHub earlier today.
The greens had a lot of excess juice in the box which doesn’t pair well with fried chicken meant to stay crispy but the flavor was nice. Other reviews mention the sweetness which IS there but not overwhelmingly to me and was met with a subtle heat. My major complaint was the chicken as it’s either from the previous night or cooked with old oil. I took a few bites of a wing and left it but you can tell even by the skin and coloring, it isn’t fresh. Unfortunately that’s 50% of my meal left in the container so maybe I will just choose the sides next time. For my first time, it was okay. I’d probably stick with the one on Main St near Little Caesar’s.
Price Breakdown:
$24 for 3 piece fried chicken meal with two sides. I chose the collard greens and yams. ($20 on site menu)
$9 for a large mac and cheese which I chose. $7 for a small.

I must admit I was driving around looking for some BBQ brisket. But finding Shirley’s SoulFood was what I needed… The Catfish Collard Greens and Potato Salad was on point. The Lemon Pepper Wings was outstanding. The lemon is strong, but good. Only thing I was missing was some dessert and that’s my fault. Will definitely be back to try the other things on the menu. TWO Thumbs for Shirley and her staff.

This was my first time trying this spot and I was hoping it was good… looks are deceiving cause the food definitely looks good and placed in the tray nicely …so I ordered the smothered 3 piece chicken with Mac & cheese & collard greens for my self and a side of yams & potato salad my husband got a fish sandwich… the chicken all 3 pieces where so hard like a rock and I’m not even exaggerating I couldn’t even try to eat it a total waste of my money the yams way too much cinnamon you could not even taste the yams the Mac & cheese was okkk nothing special but it was overall good….the collard greens where good had a bit of a sweet taste…the potato salad was okkk too I don’t think I’m ever going back again… I was really disappointed the corn bread was dry and blend absolutely no taste at all.. they don’t even offer butter packets I guess u might have to ask..I didn’t even get utensils in my bag…
