It’s a shame the food doesn’t deliver like the atmosphere. The staff isn’t very friendly either. Service for lunch took a while, a little too long for a work lunch if you were going to go then. The soup was okay, but it was a little too salty. The steak was a little too over cooked for my liking and dry. The profiterole were just too mushy with all the chocolate on it. Unfortunately nothing left me wanting more so I wouldn’t recommend it nor would I return.
Our last date night had actually ended at Aura and the manager and bartenders made us feel so special then that I knew they’d be perfect accomplices for a little romantic surprise. They were totally happy to play along and made sure our evening was just the best.
I love this place and it’s now my favorite spot in Sugarland!
(Yes, of course the food is amazing too!)
I warmly recommend Aura for any evening when you’re in the mood for a really nice dinner.
My friend and I came for Sunday brunch. We arrived early enough so that service could not be blamed on there bringing too many people. There was a family that was stated after us AND ordered after us, yet received their meal before we did. We weren’t too upset and decided to just wait in hopes of amazing food.
Here’s a breakdown of the food.
Appetizer: Pate was served with French baguette slices, caramelized onions, mustard seeds, & cornichons. Order the pate! It was good enough that I almost used my bread to clean out the dish!
Entrees: Hangar steak & egg tacos were served with steak frites & fresh cut fruit. The steak meat was over cooked and tough. The scrambled eggs were dry and the salsa looked unappetizing. The tortillas were hard. I’m sorry, but they looked like leftovers that might go in a doggy bag. The steak frites LOOKED soggy and yes, they were oozing with oil. Despite the fact that they were well seasoned, no one wants soggy fries. Fresh cut fruit included watermelon, canteloupe, papaya, and pineapple- they were sweet and yummy.
Florentine with smoked salmon- basically Eggs Benedict (muffin, spinach, smoked salmon, poached egg, hollandaise). The hollandaise looked nice and glossy but the taste was not what I expected. Perhaps too much salt? It tasted like cheese! Since the hollandaise sauce is poured over the dish, the entree was pretty much ruined. However, underneath, the smoked salmon was good and the poached egg was perfect. Again, the steak frites were well seasoned but sopping wet. The fresh fruit squares were delectable.
OH and the food was NOT EVEN lukewarm when they came out. I am generally not a diner to complain or send dishes back so we asked for the check. I had wanted to try several of their desserts (they had a big chalkboard with all the desserts staying me in the face!) but I had lost my appetite.
The decor is nice and chic. Staff was polite. My friend will definitely not be coming back. I may give it another try, just not anytime soon.
Have not gone to this new location until today, and I’m glad to report it was still tasty.
