I had the delightful opportunity to taste an array of items, thanks to the Ivytech Hospitality program. We tried the coffee cake, the quiche, the berry tart (is that what it is?), cosmic muffin, and the cinnamom roll. All of these were amazing, but I think the cinnamon roll was the star of the show.
Overall, if I lived by it, I’d be visiting daily.

Open when I wanted coffee and hooray, they’re not the Green Siren people! I was here for about two hours to get my day started and enjoy my “first coffee” of the day, which turned out to be a cortado served perfectly in a short glass. Not just great coffee, but my barista made a latte art bear. Adorable and I didn’t want to drink him, but drink him I did.

It is ok. Smallish. The staff were hollering and making it hard to work. The checkout adds an automatic 20% tip. You can change it but you have do so manually. There are better places in Bloomington for coffee.

Having a weird day with this COVID WFH reality and decided to pop over to the Hillside Soma location for an afternoon treat. They had pulled a batch of shots and surprised me by asking if I wanted a double shot so it didn’t go to waste (well yes ofc I would!). I came inside to find a gorgeous display of Valentine’s treats lovingly crafted and a cheerful atmosphere. The tongue-in-cheek “gays only” cookie warmed my queer little heart! (Don’t worry, dearest straight family and friends, plenty of identical cookies with more traditional designs available too). And to top it all off they took the time to draw silly designs on my order just to make my day a little brighter!
I’ve already had so many great experiences with the staff at this location (the new manager spoke with me over the phone a few months back to help me suss out any remaining dairy-free pastries since the online system was out). The employees are the heart of the business. Thank you, Hillside staff!

This was my first time visiting Soma, so when I came in I had no idea what to order. The barista that helped me was named Nancy and she was super helpful. The other barista was also very sweet, but I didn’t catch her name. Nancy gave me all of her recommendations and was very real with me. It is rare to find a coffee shop with genuine workers who like to talk to their customers these days. I ended ordering an Oahu which was super delicious. I got it in a mug and the latte art was very pretty I ended up sitting down at a table to do some work, and the atmosphere was just great! Good music, clean shop, and good vibes. You can just tell that the baristas that work here care about what they do. I was sitting near the register, so I could hear the baristas greet the customers. You can tell who keeps coming back because the baristas seem to have many real connections with some of the customers. I thought it was so funny when this older man came in and the baristas handed him a pink mug with a very humorous phrase. They kept joking around with each other and you could tell that the older gentleman was very happy to see the baristas. They are full of laughs and I loved it!
