This was our second time dining here and it was just as good as the first time. Classic French cuisine, nice cocktails, and wonderful service. We were lucky enough to have Tony as our server again this time and he’s an absolute gem of a man.
My friend was in town visiting from Tokyo again and specifically requested to dine here, after I took him here last year.
If you’re looking for a pleasant spot for a date or to catch up with a long-time friend, this is a lovely place for that purpose. You’ll be able to have an actual conversation because it isn’t a loud venue and the architecture is lovely.

This review is a bit tardy. My wife and I had a wonderful anniversary dinner at Julia’s Restaurant in the Berkeley City Club in August. From the beautiful ambience to the excellent service to the scrumptious food, we give Julia’s high praise.
We went early and enjoyed walking around the historic building “ooh’ing and ahh’ing” over the stunning architecture and ornate detailing everywhere. Morgan’s Bar & Lounge has the most gorgeous stained glass Tiffany lamps (see photo) that fit the decor well.
Our waiter, Adrian, was friendly, attentive, knowledgeable about the menu, and fun. The food was beyond amazing. We both had filet mignon (perfectly cooked medium rare) with bearnaise sauce; it was tender and succulent (see photo). The accompaniments, sweet potatoes and spinach, were all delicious.
We had never been to Julia’s before and now look forward to going there again for another great, special meal.

I was staying at BCC when Julia’s happened to have their once a month urban buffet so I decided to try it for dinner. I didn’t have a reservation but staff seated me quickly. For $30, you get three protein entrees (steak, salmon, chicken) and one vegetarian entree (ravioli), side dishes (polenta and ratatouille), and salads. There were also three dessert options on the night I dined. Relative to the nightly rate for the hotel stay ($200+), the price of the buffet was worth it. I enjoyed the steak with mushroom polenta, caprese skewers, ravioli, and the tiramisu was excellent. Note, the restaurant filled up quickly with BCC members using their dining credit so it is busy. Still, service was welcoming and accommodating to hotel guests. Dining here completed my BCC stay and I’m glad I got try the Tuesday buffet.

I just had the best risotto I have eaten ever. This is a cool place. Really pretty and elegant. We were here to celebrate my daughter’s birthday. The drinks were amazing. For dessert we had the vanilla crème brûlée. The waitress was sweet and comped our dessert. Great experience.

Everything was great but the food just lacked execution. For example I ordered the short rib, which was paired with blue cheese mash potatoes, carrots and kale. Normally these elements would work but the short rib was pressure cooked and watery, it didn’t have that rich reduction that would have paired with the funky blue cheese and the citrus of the kale. It definitely felt like steps had been skipped and as a result the food just wasn’t good.

Cute little restaurant and bar right off of Berkeley campus. It’s inside some club building so you need to ring a bell and ask them to let you in, then go upstairs. Quite interesting setup.
The building has a classic feel and it was really nice walking around the ornaments and decorations.
They have a separate section for a bar but you can order drinks and cocktails in the dining area too.
Food was very delicious and presented in a beautiful way. Server seemed a bit inexperienced but he was the sweetest guy! Definitely going back to this place. Highly recommend!
(Gotta do street parking but there were plenty of spots when we went on a Wednesday around dinner time)

I have been here last month for lunch during Restaurant Week, and I really enjoyed this place. It is located in a very beautiful small castle built in 1930, that works also as a hotel today. Food is very tasteful, service is impeccable and the price is pretty much fair. The restaurant is very small, you should reserve a table by the window and prove their delicious creme brulee. The only reason that I do not give five stars is that I think they need a revitalization, a kind of update without losing the historic style.

Food was good and afternoon tea was nice. The plan was to check out Julia’s for the Restaurant Week menu, but they do not serve the lunch menu on weekends. This was very disappointing because this was not stated on the posted lunch menu or Julia’s Restaurant Week page.
As typical for restaurants that do not specialize in steaks, ordering medium-rare gets you a solid medium. (This is a trick we learned long ago after getting tired of eating almost well-done steaks when ordering medium and not wanting to contribute to food waste.)
The black tea was subpar and slightly bitter. On the bright side, the African root tea was a great discovery. Scones and Devonshire cream we’re delightful- it’s half of the reason I love afternoon tea.
Pros: solid spot for afternoon tea, although pricy (~$50/person after tax and tip)
Cons: lack of info online pertaining to times of Restaurant Week participation, parking, subpar steak
