I ate here for lunch and I thought it was delicious! I’m not sure why there are so many negative reviews here. They do serve a lot of rice, but you can always ask for “1/2 rice” and they won’t give you so much. The price was very reasonable.

My family decided to try something different this evening, and choosing your own meal seemed like a fun thing to try. Upon entering the restaurant, we noticed it was clean, the hostess was extremely nice and knowledgeable, and the small and limited ingredient section looked fairly clean as well. This is where anything I have nice to say ends. There is no ambience whatsoever. Not even background music playing. As we awaited our food, we noticed everybody was eating out of takeout containers. I guess the concept of an actual dish is lost on this establishment. We eventually received our food, along with some beautiful plastic utensils, and chopsticks. We all dug in to the most bland and uninspired food I’ve ever had the misfortune of tasting in my entire life. I ordered mine for a spice level of three, which I was told would be reasonably hot without melting your face. The food was completely bland and flavorless. The fried rice was simply brown with some kind of oily substance. None of the meat nor vegetables absorbed any of the flavor. The sauce did not stick to the food at all. To say we were underwhelmed would be the understatement of the year. I choked it down so that I didn’t feel any worse about wasting my $46 on three meals. If you are looking for subpar Asian food, try the food court at the mall, at least it tastes like something. This will be a one and done. check out the picture of the leftovers to see how unappealing this brown and tasteless food is.

Good for a quick bite and you pay by the pound. Service is ok and the ambiance is a little dreary. You do get to watch the food be cooked kind of like hibachi. The sauces are tasty. I got the combo with the curry added and it was sliced well. One of those places you go back to every once in a while.

I have eaten Bali Hai for years now but I have to say food is not as good anymore and the price is out of control. The staff is nice but they weigh it after it has been cooked and add the rice. I believe if they were to do things the way they originally did years ago and had fair prices more people would come.

I went here on a whim of nostalgia— haven’t been to Bali Hai since the one in Raleigh burned down. The way they charge for the food changed and is no longer per bowl, it is per pound. The food was still decent, but it was disappointing how much rice they put into the take-out containers prior to weighing. It seemed like half the weight was due to the amount of rice.

I WOULD GO BACK…

I was unsure as to what I had a taste for, but eventually ended up here after seeing the sign outside. I’ve been to Mongolian grills around the Raleigh area and while most have either always been or switched over to charge by bowl, I happen to love the fact that this location charges by weight. I always felt as if I was being cheated by spending $11-$12 for a portion size that only fit into a small serving bowl – I could barely fit the meat in alone with everything spilling over, so it was wonderful to be able to pick up a tray and load 4 bowls on it to choose from the bar without having things put together in one!! I also enjoyed the host’s opinions when asked his suggestion of the best food selections and sauces to combine – he was engaging and friendly, which is a plus. I’m not sure what the setup and orderliness looks like in full swing because I visited when they opened up at 5pm, but everything was neat, fresh, and appealing to the eye. I will say I was a little disappointed that there was no chicken or eggs ( I love a good fried egg in my meal), but the food had a great taste and was seasoned well, in my opinion. I wasn’t too far off from what I anticipated spending and left with a pretty good idea how to adjust, based on this experience, how I could spend less/more. Overall, I feel like this experience encouraged me to revisit!!

A friend told us he enjoyed this restaurant so we gave it a try. I was immediately underwhelmed when we walked in and didn’t really know what to do. Didn’t see an employee in sight so we just walked up to the food bar and began filling our bowls for the grill. Limited selection of food. The meat is freeze-dried which was interesting… only had turkey, beef and pork out to choose for meat options (come to find out you can request add ons but theres no menu in sight). We then walked up to the cook and he asked for a ticket, I asked where to get that and he walked away… lol so we found the checkout guy who gave us a ticket. All booth tables were dirty. Not a bit of music or atmosphere. Food was given in Styrofoam take out boxes. Beef had a Grey look to it, I imagine because it’s freeze-dried. Flavor was lacking. We were not impressed.

My wife and I enjoy it for takeout and it’s fine just select what you want cooked on the big grill. My wife likes vegetables with tofu. I prefer the meat dishes.

I’ll start by saying that I really used to enjoy this place in it’s old location that burned a few years back. I have gone to the Strickland Road location twice now, but this will probably be my last visit. I went in today for lunch and dutifully loaded up 2 bowls of veggies/meat. Handed it to the person prepping the order for the cook and very clearly asked for 1/2 portion of rice. This was written on the ticket as well. After handing off your food, you have to wait a while until they cook it. I guess I should have waited and kept an eye on things, because when they called me to pick it up, it is placed in a takeout container (styrofoam clamshell) and then you weigh it to determine price. My price came out to $13.80 for 1.7 lbs of food. OK fine. The PROBLEM happened when I got to the table, opened the container, and realized that literally 50% to 70% of what was in the container was RICE! I went back to the checkout and showed them, enquiring as to whether this meets the standard for ‘1/2 portion of rice’ and the guy was essentially just not too concerned. I really felt cheated at that point. What I expected was to remove 1/2 the rice, re-weigh, and get a refund for the difference, but they indicated that they ‘could not do that’. I’ll finish by saying that the food was good, but I threw away > half of the rice, and it just was not even close to worth the cost! I’ve attached a picture of the rice that was left. The entire bottom portion of the container was loaded with rice, and my meat/veggie stir fry fit into the small portion of the container at the top of the pic. So, going forward I refuse to pay $7.50/lb for a bunch of white rice. Not going to happen. Bali Hai may be ‘calling’, but it’s far from my ‘special island’. I can go to lots of other places where they will fix an order that was clearly served in error.

“I absolutely loved my experience at this Mongolian grill restaurant! The food was amazing, especially the sweet and spicy sauce combination I chose. Everything was flavorful and perfectly cooked. The service was fast and the staff were incredibly friendly. I highly recommend this place!”
This was my first time and I plan to come back!
