I only had two gripes with the event. 1) the inflatable beach ball in the tent state wasn’t done well, most people were just randomly pegged in the back of their head when they were trying to enjoy music (myself and my wife included, the free new years hat luckily worked well as a safety helmet). 2) how does a location selling a set number of tickets for an event run out of champagne? When I went to turn in our tickets, both locations with the champagne I knew about were trying to radio someone they had run out, but were not getting anywhere, I gave up and left. (If the property reads this, let me know if I can exchange them later please, still in the area for a bit.)
Would still recommend this place for this event in future years!
We were greeted with confusion that someone would want food this time of day but managed to place an oyster order. Then for some odd reason had to venture to a secondary location to order alcohol. We thought surely such an iconic location would have a fun cocktail program, but alas the random Tito’s drink list thumbtacked to a graffiti filled wall was found too late. We settled on a can of beer each, and then with no clear indications wandered the premises for a dining area. While there was seating throughout it was hard to till what was reserved for the Matlock crowd and the impending bingo game and what was general use.
After 10-12 minutes the oysters were finished and we got a text to that extent. They were served in a boat like corn dogs at a T-ball, yet covered with the food safe plastic wrapping of saltines which glistened like the morning dew. The oysters themselves were alright, the Gouda was crunchy instead of ooey gooey but the oyster itself was flavorful and well cooked.
Not the place for my demographic the early day caters to retired locals and the nights by reputation implies high schoolers and college kids. I would try the Yacht Club part but would not return here.
Grab a Bushwacker and some appetizers and head out to the beach tables for some live music. Oh yeah …and if you catch them around Laborl Day….be sure to check out the bulk riding (yes – actual PBR bull riding)!
