Here are some of the issues:
1. charges are not clear.
It seems it’s the only restaurant near URI that doesn’t provide a detailed receipt, it only has the total amount on the receipt. For example, the ayo chicken is 8.99 or 9.99, and the printed menu shows a chicken&waffle combo starting from 14.99, but it doesn’t state the price of the choices. My friend just wants this two, but the lady keeps asking if he wants any sauce. She gave us 3 choices and we choose 1 maple sauce, then she ask if we want any side, fries, or hashbrowns. so we choose hashbrowns. So the total including tax is 28+. We have no idea if there is a mistaken charge or which item suppose to pay by how much. For my order, it’s strawberry shortcake+ half pound chicken wing+ayo burger+tax=29+. On the menu, there is no price for strawberry waffles.
2. It seems the chef won’t pay any attention to your request. So pay attention if you have any food allergies. Luckily, we don’t.
She asked my friend whether he wanted to choose wings or tender. My friend chooses tender. Then she asked if he wanted pickles in the ayo burger. And he said no, no pickles. When I placed my order, I also stated no pickles in my burger.
But both of our burgers came with pickles. And he got wings, which he want tenders. So be very careful if you have any allergies, the chef in the kitchen won’t pay any attention to your order.
3. There’s pink in the chicken drum. Although USDA states it happens sometimes even fully cooked. I’m not that comfortable when using a knife to cut the drum and blood (or a mixture of blood with juicy oil) flowing into the basket. But the food tastes good.
4. The maple sauce doesn’t come with our order, when we start to eat, I asked my friend where is your maple sauce. He said jokingly ‘Maybe they add it to the waffle mixture with buttermilk together. When we were almost done, the lady brought a small box of maple sauce and said ‘Hey, you forgot your maple sauce’. I didn’t say that f2f, but here is my thought…..em…xme… There are only two tables (4 customers altogether), am I forgetting to ask for it or it should come with the waffle at the beginning.
5. The tv face reception. None of the dining tables could watch the tv, all we could hear is extremely loud sound effects.
6. Last but not least, it seems that the lady doesn’t know the menu or food well. When I asked which of the 17 flavors are spicy. She only spoke two words ‘The buffalo.’ So are the rest 16 flavors non-spicy?
Anyway, the food is good. chicken wings are a little saltier than we thought. My friend and I all drank a Dunkin Donuts large iced tea from completely full to empty during the dining.
We would definitely visit there next time. But we might choose to use GrubHub or hungrybutton. Though it’s more expensive than ordering directly, we could see the detailed and optional charges more clearly. For example, Grubhub states the sauce is optional and needs to be paid extra. maple sauce charge extra $2+, and another sauce charge $3+…
Juicy piece of chicken with a crispy outside and decent size. But the star was the Carolina Gold BBQ sauce. I could drink that stuff straight lol. They were definitely generous with the amount of sauce they put on and it was perfectly getting everywhere.
The only bone I have to pick is with the bun. The top was not soft, it was hard. Not sure if it was stale or something was messed up, but if it was soft like how brioche is, it would have made the sandwich even better.
Everybody there waited a pretty long time for their food, but I now know that’s because they are legit making things from scratch and really care about what they’re giving to consumers.
Very affordable prices too. I’ll be back to try their chicken & waffles and maybe their Wake the Cluck Up Sandwich.
Keep it up!
This place is located within a plaza so there’s plenty of parking. Casual inside. Blue and yellow theme. Plain chairs but cushioned and comfortable. There are outlets around if you had to bring a computer with you but I don’t believe they have Wi-Fi here
Their biscuits are ok. But it’s hard to get your hands on soft flour up here in the Northeast. Otherwise biscuit flavor is good.
Their spicy mayo is actually spicy.
I got this maple butter syrup thing. It has a really weird taste and was kind of green? But whatever herb they may have put in there def isn’t good.
Can’t wait to come back again and again!!
