Great little hidden gem! Li’s is the perfect quaint and authentic restaurant you probably drive by and never thought to stop. Next time you are passing through town, take the time to stop and enjoy this place. The food is definitely authentic and delicious. Li cooks it himself and serves and pretty much does everything! We will be repeat customers. Our chicken dishes were delicious. The breading was crisp and not soggy like most Chinese restaurants. The sauces were perfectly balanced and the rice was nice and fluffy. Definitely recommend the honey almond chicken.

A Hidden Gem in Cambridge: Mr. Li’s Chinese Restaurant

After a soul-stirring day exploring the rugged beauty of Hell’s Canyon, we found ourselves craving comfort, flavor, and a place to rest our feet. What we discovered in the quiet heart of Cambridge, Idaho was far more than a meal, it was a moment of grace.

Mr. Li’s Chinese Restaurant welcomed us like old friends. Though it was just twenty minutes before closing, Mr. Li greeted us with open arms and a generous offering of fresh fruit, his smile as warm as the kitchen behind him. There was no rush, no hesitation, just hospitality in its purest form.

We ordered General Tso’s Chicken, Pork Fried Rice, and Orange Chicken. Each dish was a revelation: crisp, tender, perfectly balanced in flavor and texture. The General Tso’s had a bold, savory kick; the pork fried rice was rich and fragrant; and the orange chicken, sweet, tangy, and utterly addictive, was a masterpiece. It wasn’t just good food. It was the best we’ve ever tasted.

But what truly sets Mr. Li’s apart is Mr. Li himself. A humble man with a twinkle in his eye and humor that dances between the lines, he turns a simple dinner into a memory you’ll carry with you. His presence is the secret ingredient, infusing every bite with kindness, laughter, and the quiet joy of someone who loves what he does.

If you ever find yourself in Cambridge, don’t miss this treasure. Mr. Li’s isn’t just a restaurant, it’s a reminder that the best meals are served with heart.

Blessings to this beautiful soul,
Dorothy and Ron❤️ ❤️

This place is fantastic. I tend to gravitate towards small, out-of-the-way establishments as these often provide some of the best culinary experiences. They just need to be discovered. This small restaurant on the way south to Boise is a great stop for some of the best quality Chinese food I’ve had in a while. Everything was cooked and seasoned just right and the service was phenomenal. The fresh watermelon appetizer was a perfect way to start the meal and Li was very friendly and we had a good conversation while I was looking through the menu. Service was quick and right when I was done, Li gave me a to-go box to take more of the watermelon home with me! I will definitely be visiting this place again.

Edit (2025): Came back here again and nothing has changed. Still a fantastic and fun place to eat. Food was just as good and Li was an excellent host. Please do yourself a favor and stop by when you’re in town.

This is one of very best meals my wife and I have had. We had honey-almond chicken and general Tso’s Chicken with fried rice and noodles – OUTSTANDING!!!! Again – one of the best!!!! At 68 yrs of age, we’ve eaten at a ton of Chinese restaurants and Li’s is in the top 2-3!!! Li was our waiter, cook and clean up guy – we arrived just after lunch rush i think. He was a treat to visit with and had a nice sense of humor! He even gave us fresh watermelon – no charge and it was delicious!!! Atmosphere is ‘what it is’. Don’t miss eating here!!! Oh yea – we had an order of BBQ pork which was an incredibly large order – also delicious!!! From now on we’ll take the route through Cambridge to had another delicious meal with Li!!!

For those of us reared in The big cities who love Chinese food we believe in the following primordial myth: a long time ago two Chinese brothers got off the ship from the motherland to open restaurants. One brother was very talented the other… Not such a good cook. The talented brother operated in the cities and simply told his sibling “just add a lot of breading to the meats, and put a lot of sugar in the sauces and you’ll do fine” sending him to the rural areas.

It would appear Mr Li was never told this story. Out in this remote area he operates a very cozy eater and even though he can be limited in what options are available, he makes it work because alas, This is a first class Chinese restaurant. I have not had such good spicy shrimp since being a young man in New York City on the upper west side when the Hunan restaurants opened up.

You may not get access to a large menu but Mr Li Will tell you what is available and comes through. The shrimp were very good quality, everything was very spicy, including my wife’s chicken dish. He could manage some shrimp rolls which were excellent… No soups, but it was Sunday!

I would wholeheartedly recommend this place, even if you have to drive a bit. Mr Li is a wonderful host, the restaurant is cozy and inviting, and he will not let you order something he cannot do it properly, or if things aren’t in stock. This is a much better policy because you know what you get will be fresh and tasty.

This restaurant is not just exceptional for the area, I would put this restaurant in any major metropolitan area, even Chinatown in San Francisco or New York… Therefore if anybody looks at reviews locally around the Boise area, I would consider calling this restaurant perhaps and making a reservation…

This is the best Chinese food I’ve had in the US in a very long time.

Our food was deliciously cooked, from scratch, with local fresh vegetables, and excellent flavors all around. The portions were generous, the conversation lively and fun, and the quirky, eclectic, atmosphere a total delight. It felt like I was being transported to a beloved small-town restaurant in the countryside in China.

A large plate of flavor-packed fresh watermelon was also offered as a complimentary appetizer, which we completely devoured.

I highly recommend the General Tso’s Chicken, honestly it’s the best I’ve ever had. Tender, juicy, and perfectly breaded, with veggies cooked just right, and a smooth richly flavored sauce that just took it to the next level!

Everything else we had was also delicious. We dinned family style, but individual options are available.

Li is the coolest guy, and his restaurant is a must when passing through this town. (I assume the locals already know how yummy it is!)

Also, there is an Electric Car Charge Station out front.

I decided to take my girlfriend for a drive up to Cambridge & stop at Li’s for dinner. I read all of the good reviews so I decided to give it a try. We were both shocked how dingy & dirty the restaurant was. The table cloth was stained, dirty & had holes in it, not to mention a few stray hairs laying around. The floor seemed to be sticky when walking on it. The table we sat at was right next to a refrigerator where they keep the drinks I told my girlfriend let’s leave but she was embarrassed to leave, I even told her I would pretend to get a phone call & say there was an emergency & that we needed to leave. So we stayed I wanted water so I received a bottle of water & my girlfriend wanted diet Dr Pepper but they didn’t have any so she got a can of diet Pepsi. The owner brought out a plate of grapes & a plate of melons and we were given paper plates, a bit strange but ok. He brought out our appetizer but it was on a paper plate. The menu didn’t have very much to choose from. We both ordered the Mandarin Chicken. The portion were pretty small & it tasted identical to the frozen Chinese dinners you get at Albertsons or Walmart. The Bill was roughly $ 38, kinda high for what we got. I will say the owner was very nice & the service was great but that’s about it. Before I went to bed I thought I hope I don’t wake up sick.

My husband and I stopped there for dinner last weekend. The reviews were great, food in the pictures looked delicious. We were shocked when we walked in. This restaurant is cluttered with random stuff, it looks like someone lives there. The server was very nice but unfortunately the food was disappointing. The amount of sugar they use for cooking is insane. The fried rice was nothing else but rice, soy sauce and crazy amount of sugar. We ordered 3 different meals and they started coming out they progressively started getting sweeter and sweeter. Didn’t even know that was possible. I wish someone warned us…. I really hope it was a one time thing and normally the food is delicious there, like the reviews say

I wanted to grab a bite while charging my EV, the owner was very kind and offered me some grapes as a snack while I waited for my food. It’s not every day you see this kind of service. Would recommend.

Li’s Kitchen is a special place that we’ve enjoyed for years when we’re traveling through the area. Li’s a really nice guy who makes really good food, and his new location in Cambridge (after moving out of Council) is conveniently located on Hwy 95. Don’t expect your average big-city dining experience. This is a small-town Idaho Chinese restaurant, and that’s a big part of its charm.
