We went to Bywater to celebrate a family member’s birthday, the atmosphere was really nice, the service was ok, and the food didn’t have a lot of flavor, kind of bland. A lot of money to have just ok food. We ordered drinks from the bar and never did get what we ordered but did get some kind of drink. Just an OK experierence.

First time here. They were not busy (it was a Monday night at 8pm and I would’ve been surprised if they had been). There were 3 of us and we all had something different (from the Signature Dishes section of the menu). We had the Oyster Sampler Platter from the appetizers. We also had the Praline cheesecake and the chocolate bread pudding. Everything we ate was great! Very fresh. Presentation was nice. Our server, David, was very attentive and helpful. We will certainly be back! What a nice addition to Helena!

Man I love this place. In Old Town Helena. Rustic. The character and atmosphere is fantastic. The food is incredible. Got the fried green tomatoes for appetizer then crab cakes and shrimp. Fantastic. They have many gluten free options including the fried green tomatoes which is important to us. This will be mine and my wife’s date night place for a long time.

Very busy place but the food and drinks are fantastic! It’s hard to hear when they call your name from the crowd so be sure you pay close attention so you don’t get skipped over like we did. Not their fault though it was really loud by the door when we were there.

We tried Bywater for the first time last night and are so glad we did. The place is amazing.
We had a great server. Her name is Erin. She kept the drinks coming and was very knowledgeable about the menu. The crab claw appetizer was really good with big, flavorful claws. We ordered the Trap for two. A huge fried platter of shrimp, oysters, catfish, crab cakes, French fries, hush puppies and slaw. It was awesome! The shrimp were huge and had a great flavor. Even though it was all fried it was not greasy and the batter was not too thick. We shared a piece of cheesecake for dessert which was awesome.. The owner comes around and checks to see that everyone is happy which I like. All together it was a great experience. Be prepared to spend a little bit of cash. It is a little pricey but you get a lot of food and it is top quality so I didn’t mind the bill. Can’t wait to go back.

My husband and I went for an early dinner tonight. Our waitress was amazing! However, we spent the majority of our time waiting on our food and drinks. We ordered crab claws, which were fantastic, wine ($14.00 a glass) and we ordered raw oysters…which we never received. Even the gentleman in charge said he would take care of our order, but didn’t follow through. Our waitress did everything she could to get our order to us. Again, she was amazing!

Honestly, it’s just okay. I judge it from Parrish Seafood House. We waited about 1.5 -2 years for the place to open b/c the staff at Parrish kept telling us it was coming. Keeping in mind my friends and I were driving almost an hour to and an hour from our homes to get to Parrish. We love the food that much. Then they finally opened. Don’t get me wrong the staff is very nice and of course they have the same owner. The food is just not as good. The crab dip is served with bread instead of tortilla chips. It makes the dish taste bad. The oysters are still cool but not quite the same. The shrimp etouffee lacks shrimp only 1 or 2 shrimp in the dish. Dishes seem smaller but the price isn’t smaller. I’m guessing b/c they are giving the image that this spot is fancier (white table cloths) but I prefer the seafood shack vibe b/c the taste and serving size is better. I’m sure I’ll go back (I’ve already been a few times) but they should change up a few things on the menu and make it more laid back.

Went here for a birthday dinner. We drove 40 minutes to try this place based on the birthday guy’s recommendation. After which he said the first few times he ate there were great but the last two have been like our experience. Service was not good, waited 1 hour and 45 minutes for our food to come. Should have known when we put our name in for a reservation and the hostess wrote our name and description of what we looked like on a piece of paper. Our waitress would be gone for 20 minutes at a time, one of the few times I’ve said let’s just pay for the drinks and leave so we can eat. Our explanation was everything under the sun why it was taking so long. The food was average but with the blaring music and the 2 hour wait for food not much at that point would make the experience good. I hope they fire and hire the right people because it has the ability to be a good spot.

We are locals and enjoy this restaurant a lot. We always get oysters and they’re great quality with a happy hour special! I highly recommend the scallops. The only “complaint” we have ever had is that the corn side that comes with most dishes tastes from a can, but otherwise delicious food.

Delicious food and attentive staff. They are severely understaffed, so good is taking a bit to get out, but let us know that upfront, so we were ok with it. We sat at the bar and Steven waited on us. He was friendly and attentive. The food was simple and well done and the oysters Rockefeller were out of this world! We will definitely be back!
