Just a month ago I wrote the review you can read below. I gave the restaurant 4 stars, and really felt they deserved it, and that they had overcome some early short-comings. I returned a month later, with friends, to share the new experience. This time, the experience was pretty far from very good.

Ordered pretty much the same thing, but with very different results. The Bar-Vacado looked like something the cat threw-up. Sorry, that’s what it looked like. Instead on a striking presentation it was served in a small bowl, drowned in the sauce and with a dried out rib meat atop. Not attractive at all. The Coconut Shrimp was dry, one of them over fried to a rubbery uneatable chunk.

Add a hostile wait staff that’s sole goal seemed to be to hurry us through our meal, and even the cocktails were poor. Sorry, not good.

So, when you can’t tell if your good or bad, your bad.

We originally visited this modern take on a Mexican restaurant right after it opened, just per-pandemic. We thought it was good, very unique, and perhaps a little limited in it’s menu. We planned on returning, but as it happened, that just never happened: until last week.

We returned last week to try again, and were very much impressed with the restaurant. The staff was particularly upbeat and friendly. The food was good, even excellent, and the service was great. It was still a bit pricey for a small restaurant in a supermarket shopping center, but it will go in the rotation for a nice meal on occasion.

So some particulars on this visit. We decided to sit in the bar area, which had several tall tables and chairs, and it seemed a nice location. We had come early, and it gives some life to a slower time. It was a great choice. The bartender waited on us, and she was a delight. Friendly and engaged, suggested several items and was very attentive.

We decided on appetizers and margaritas, and that was another great choice. The premium margarita is served with the Grand Marnier on the side, so you can control the mix, which I like. We both enjoyed them. For apps we had the Short Ribs on Roasted Avocado (Bar-Vacdo), and it was WONDERFUL! The item is served with a Queso Fundito sauce, that I could have had a glass of, it was so good. Could have easily made a meal of two orders of this. Unique!

Also ordered the Coconut Shrimp with Mango Habanero Sauce. Another winner folks. The shrimp had nice snap and the sauce was terrific. Finished up with the two crab cake app. They were good, but not up to the quality of the first two items. All-in-all a very good meal.

On the negative, this is probably the only Mexican restaurant in the United States that does not offer at least a few chips and salsa with an order, but has it as a $5 appetizer. Not a deal killer, but a few chips with a drink is a nice offering.

We will be back.

Me and my boyfriend were on vacation in Palm Springs, and stopped for lunch at Heirloom craft kitchen , and later that evening had dinner at Tu Madres Cantina . Both restaurants provided amazing food and service. We are more than satisfied with our choice and experience. Would definitely recommend to visit both places if possible. 5 stars for an unforgettable and delicious memories

Wow, maybe the best Mexican food in town in this upper price range. We got the Platter for Two and it was so good! We also got the Mexican Cesar salad which was a delight.

The Trio salsa and chips was a necessity to get the salsa to incorporate into the rest of the meal.

Margaritas, queso dip, and decor were great. Service was slow, but understandable with staffing issues. Only thing that bothered me was meat portion size with tacos. It would have been nice to be satisfied on tacos alone, not have to order multiple courses.

The Chicken Mole Poblano I ordered with out the corn tortillas with extra radish, pickled onions and cilantro – and also came with a side of rice along with a piece of chicken in mole sauce; it was delicious and a mild mole on the spice scale. The specialty cocktail How I Met Your Mother was served in a copper cup and was sweet but not overwhelming so. There’s a bar area, hightop seating, regular take seating, booths, and an outdoor patio area in the parking lot. Chips and salsa were excellent!

Came from out of town to visit Indio and wanted Mexican food. This place stood out to me. No regrets. The margarita tasted so fresh, burrito was solid, the salad was my favorite. I have a good feeling everything on the menu is tasty. I’d definitely come back. The staff was nice and helpful. Great ambiance.

Seriously delicious food, great drinks. Kristen was our waitress and did an excellent job, even recommended a top notch gin drink to my son. I had the El chingon very good.

This place is Amazing. The Food is over the top great and fresh and leaves your taste buds salivating for more. Service is amazing and prices are good. The vibe and energy are fantastic. The menu has many mouthwatering options that do not disappoint and the spirits are on point, especially the “Diablo Margarita”. This a great new place that was surely crafted with care and I highly recommend in La Quinta/Indio.

Delicious food and cocktails, great ambiance & super friendly staff! We enjoyed several of the bar plates they offer, including the incredible Bar-vacados, Chilies Gueritos and Tacos al Pastor, each of the plates had epic presentation, were super fresh and far exceeded our expectations! The Paloma margarita was ridiculousy good and the El Diablo was even better, if that’s even possible. This place is awesome and we will definetly be back!

Celebrated my birthday at tu madres and loved this decision. We noticed we weren’t the only one celebrating. And the restaurant had more customers in it than we expected for August. The tortilla soup was amazing. The charred avocado was a first for me and will be ordered again. The guacamole and salads were excellent, but the surf and turf burrito (huge) was the star of the night. If you are in Indio or anywhere near tu madres it is well worth the visit! P.S. make sure to order a margarita , the best in the valley.
