Feedback on Small’s Pizza? : r/austinfood – Reddit

I loved them both, though I liked the tomato pie more and it had more char. Both had a great crisp undercarriage. Small’s Pizza Austin TX.

So my take on things is a bit limited right out of the gate… their notification system never texted us that our pizza was ready so by the time they finally realized they need to invest in some WiFi (this place is solidly 1 or maybe 2 bars) and found us, our pie was almost room temperature. Not ideal.

The crust… it is a nice thin crispy but not cracker-y crust, and the crust in the middle of the pie didn’t sog out, which was a definite plus. It has good flavor, and b/c it is such a thin vehicle for the delivery of the good stuff, you can house the entire pie and not feel like Mr. Creosote.

The sauce… we got the pepperoni with vodka sauce instead of their regular sauce, and when we could taste it (it was spread a little thin) it was really good and had a nice complex flavor to it.

The cheese… the cheese, such as it was almost at room temperature, was good enough, I guess. No cheese pull assessment available b/c cheese won’t pull when it’s, you know, lukewarm.

The toppings… cup pepperoni FTW. And a good amount of it. They were not stingy with the pepperoni, which was appreciated. Now, that sense of largesse just needs to percolate over to the vodka sauce on the pie!

Overall… again, a first experience at almost room temperature is hard to assess as the pizza half-life has already passed.

The crust and the sauce show a lot of promise and we think would be even better when they were still warm from the oven, so we will have to give them another try at some point.

This pizza for sure gives 8 and higher vibes (any pizza that gets an 8 or higher is a very good pie), but based on what we actually had… 6.25/10.

So it’s above the baseline of 5 (ie Domino’s, Papa John’s, etc.), but I think under more optimal conditions, it could hit/exceed an 8.

And fix your notification system, please!

I LOVE SMALL’S!!!
Best Connecticut style pizza in Austin, and one of the best pizzas in Austin period. Small’s walks the fine line between having really solid classic pies and inventive special pies. Their clams casino pie I had recently is one such example: a white pie with fresh shucked clams, jalapeños, and ham.

I’m a pizza-holic. Literally the only reason I work out 5 days a week is so I can eat pizza all the time. With that said I was very excited to see a New Haven pizza joint open up. We got the vodka w/ sausage which was great. And a half pepperoni and half mashed potato seasonal and wow I don’t normally like mashed potatoes all that much but it was a really exceptional pie, as was the pepperoni. This place is now in my top 5 maybe top 3 Austin pizza joints. My only gripe is the pies were rather pricey but I guess that just can’t be helped post covid where everything went up a bajillion dollars.

Grabbed a vodka sauce pizza with pepperoni to-go. It came out to $30 with tax. A little steep for a pizza but I’m okay with splurging on a pizza this heavenly every once in a while. I never get pizza without pepperoni, but I think next time I’ll skip it because the vodka sauce was truly that amazing. So much flavor packed into it and added a great savory, creamy layer to the pizza. The crust was not dry and had the perfect char. Pizza took 15 min to come out and staff was friendly- great experience! I noticed they had an empty display case so I’m hoping that means one day they’ll be displaying and selling pizza by the slice!!! Would be a dream for lunch. Will be back to try a plain vodka and a sausage pizza!

I’ve never had NH style pizza until dining here. My boyfriend has been wanting to try this place for sometime. We finally did. Holy cow, it’s so good. NH pizza is fantastic. I was fascinated by the thin, crunchy bread. The sauce and toppings are delicious. We got a slice of each. They were about $4.50 – $5.50 each. The vodka and broccoli/sausage were my favorites. Delicious pizza!!

Austin has soooo many really good pizza place its actually kind of difficult!! I’m happy to say I was really pleased with my smalls pizza!! Its worth it to get a whole but they have slices which is great!!
I saw the guy that does the video on new heaven pizza and I really wanted to try it!! Its wood fried but not the super thin kind that’s similar to some NY pizza!! The crust was perfect and really good!! I would say this place has better toppings and crust than others!! I got the vodka with pepperoni and it was really good!!

Pizza was really good. Simple ingredients, simple but tasty end result. It’s a really good crispy thin crust pizza. Beer selection was decent as well. I’m looking forward to going back and trying their anchovies on a pizza. The vibe of the place was a little different. Really high ceilings made it like we were eating in a cafeteria, so we opted to eat out on the patio. When the weather is nice this is perfect. After dinner we grabbed another beer at The Front Page. Nice place but I think it is still trying to figure out if it wants to be a neighborhood bar or a sports bar. Time will tell.

Delicious crunchy pizza at their new location. I had the tomato pie and vodka half and half. The tomato sauce had a very delicious acidity and was very vibrant. Delicious texture

Best New Haven style pizza in town!

Owners are amazing down to earth people that know pizza. The pizza is so good that my girlfriend and I bought two during our first time going to Smalls. Pictures include pepperoni and pepperoni with mushrooms.

Pros: The tomato sauce is amazing a perfect balance of savory and sweet, the cheese is dreamy smooth incredibly satisfying, and the crust… cooked perfectly, so perfect that you may think it’s burnt but it’s just been cooked and taken out at the right time.

Cons: None

Pizza 10/10

Got a vodka pie. Side of hot honey. Absolutely phenomenal. Portnoy would give this a 10.0 if they cooked it another minute because he’s a psychopath and likes burnt pizza. This is exactly what a perfect slice should be.
