long: horrible experience. I went directly from work for the free salsa dance class, and since I knew I was arriving very early, I had planned to eat and have a drink. The flyers posted on IG promoting the free salsa dance class clearly state the class starts at 7:00pm and the place opens at 5:00pm. I entered shortly after 5:00pm, after another guy entered. I had been patiently waiting outside half an hour. When we walked in, a guy (bartender Noe) asked us if we’re there for the salsa class, to which we both replied yes. Then a woman (hostess Diana) that looked like she just rolled out of bed walked in past us and told us the class starts at 7 and the place opens at 6, to which I replied that I had checked online and it states the place opens at 5:00pm and that’s when the attitude with stank faces and neck spasms began. I thought to myself, if she would have just given verbal attitude, I could have written it off as her just having a bad day day, but all that extra disrespectful body language and doubling down on her lying was too disrespectful to ignore. The guy immediately made efforts to diffuse the situation and accommodate me and the other guy and showed us where we could sit and gave me a menu. I seriously wanted to walk right out, which normally I would have done, but I missed out on my two favorite classes at Crunch Chelsea with Michael A to check out the free salsa dance class. To play it safe, I didn’t order a drink, and I wasn’t going to order food after that interaction with a staff member, but I was hungry. Noe, the bartender, is great and provides exceptional customer service. He’s the guy that I mentioned earlier who did his best to resolve his coworkers’ lack of professionalism and basic decent human behavior. He recommended: the smash burger; tacos; and steak sandwich. I’ve been eating Wayback burgers almost every day these past two weeks, so I ordered the steak sandwich. While waiting for the steak sandwich, I approached the other guy and asked him if the girl gave us attitude, I wanted to make sure it wasn’t just me that had that impression, and he confirmed yes that she did but that maybe she was just having a bad day. I don’t know why they call it a steak sandwich. It’s a slop of crappy bacon with a side of maybe steak. I wasn’t sure what that was. It was like eating chewy bacon because it was mostly bacon, and the bit of maybe steak gave it an overall chewy texture. When I was almost done with the first half, it finally occurred to me to remove the bacon, which I did as pictured, but the crappy bacon taste was so powerful that I could still taste it. So I just couldn’t finish the sandwich. The location itself is beautiful and clean. The hostess Diana is a hot mess, and the owner can check the camera to see her giving stank faces and neck spasms shortly after 5:00pm on 7/14/25. The experience was so horrible that it was a torrential thunderstorm outside, and instead of waiting it out inside, I just ran to the bus stop instead. I only recommend the place for the free salsa dance class on Mondays, go elsewhere for food.
The steak was undercooked and tasted old as if you don’t want to throw away steak meat so you keep it for another event.
Had a major issue with them charging a 20% gratuity, gratuity is based on the customer’s experience, not what revenue a vendor wants to earn per table.
I spoke to the mgr. and stated that a mandatory gratuity is illegal. If that is the case you would need to notify customers prior to dining. I’m clear on NYS restaurant laws, and they are trying to rob people based on their profit margin.
We paid the gratuity we felt was suitable based upon the service and it was not 20%.
They were filming customers for online footage, in order to do that legally each patron would need to sign a waiver, which they did not disclose at any point that filming would take place and how/where the footage would be used.
The bathroom was extremely disgusting, that alone this venue needs to be shut down.
Absolutely shocked that the operating practices at this venue were this horrendous.
NEVER AGAIN!
Food is mid nothing out of the world nothing stood out service could have been better but we wasn’t there to really dine in the drinks was good the vibe was great
The people was friendly and open to dancing
It was a dope time definitely recommend it
Bouncers was cool welcoming host was also great the manger was cool dj was good live music was a great touch definitely enjoyed the night
If you’re looking for a spot with awesome drinks, this is the place to be. Their craft beer selection is very good, and the signature cocktails are perfectly mixed definitely worth trying! The vibe is lively with sports on every screen, making it a fun place to hang out with friends while enjoying a cold one. Whether you’re into beer, cocktails, or something unique, they’ve got you covered. Highly recommend for a great drink and a fun time! Food is also amazing!
However, the prices can be a bit steep, especially for craft beers. Service is generally good, although it can get busy and lead to longer wait times during peak hours.
Overall, 5th&Mad is a solid choice for beer enthusiasts looking to unwind in Midtown Manhattan.
