This was my first but certainly not last time at this restaurant and trying Ethiopian food. Our table shared the vegetarian platter and meat platter. Everything was absolutely delicious!

In my opinion, this is a place where you will order food for the entire table and share food. You use the bread to grab from the piles of food. We are SO much food but never felt heavy or gross afterwards because the bread is gluten free and it’s mostly veggies and yummy spices.

The owner was so gracious and generous explained what everything was and then explained the coffee service after our meal. The coffee was AMAZING! Not only the presentation but the flavor is great. I could hang out there all day and just drink coffee with friends. I truly think the owner would love if people did this too as the front area has seating areas arranged to allow something just like this.

Do yourself a favor and try this restaurant! Bonus too that it’s super affordable.

Absolutely delicious! We had a couple vegetarian combo platters, plus an order of samosas and that fed 4 people comfortably. Great, authentic Ethiopian spot, with friendly service and awesome food. Highly recommended!

My first time trying Ethiopian. Food was so yummy! salad was light and flavorful. Tea with honey, lemon and tumeric uplifted my mood and gave me a nice boost. Staff is extremely pleasant. 10 out of 10 🙂

Every city has its secrets, and in Louisville, one of them is a hidden gem that feels more like a passageway than a restaurant. Addis Ababa Ethiopian Bar and Restaurant isn’t just a place to eat—it’s a place to remember.

I didn’t expect much. I never do. But when I searched for ethnic food, I found more than I had hoped—a cluster of Ethiopian spots in a city I wouldn’t have guessed had them. Three options. But I wanted the one that felt the most authentic, the one where the scent of berbere in the air made you stop in your tracks. Addis Ababa was that place.

The moment I stepped inside, I wasn’t in Louisville anymore. The music, the faces, the atmosphere—it was Addis. And the food? A feast, a celebration of tradition, plated in the form of an enormous communal spread meant to be eaten the way it always has been—with your hands, tearing off pieces of injera to scoop up fragrant, slow-cooked perfection.

Service wasn’t fast, but this isn’t fast food. And if you’re looking for fancy cocktails, you won’t find them. Here, it’s whiskey shots and nothing more. In the back, African music hums beneath the chatter, mixing with the clack of dominoes and the bubbling smoke of the hookah lounge.

When I walked in, the room paused for just a second—an acknowledgment that white faces don’t pass through here often. But that only makes me want to return. Because food is about connection, about stepping outside of the expected and into something real.

Five stars for the meal, five more for the experience. Some places deserve to be known. This is one of them.

This is the best and most authentic Ethiopian food in town. We enjoyed the beef and lamb tibs which were seasoned with flavorful spices. The entree portions were large and came with a side of salad and lentils. The chef here makes his injera with 100% teff flour and you can tell, it is the perfect taste and texture, and he cooks all of his dishes with the same high standards. Even my friend’s Ethiopian mother recommends it – a serious endorsement.

First time dining here. Small but nice atmosphere. Food was very good. I had the vegetarian platter. The collard greens were seasoned and lightly spicy. The yellow lentils and the red lentils were spicy, for me could have been spicier. The salad with onion, lettuce, tomato and lite dressing was very good. Got seconds with no extra charge. Chef/owner was friendly. Pleasant conversation and checked to see if we were satisfied with the food. Hope to visit again.

I’ve been on a trek to find good Ethiopian food in the Louisville area. This place was decent. I ordered beef awaze tibs with collard greens and lentils, plus an order of beef sambusas. I wasn’t in love with the food but I absolutely loved the service. The man who owns? Or works the front was very nice, a great conversationalist and made the experience worth the while. The tibs were cooked well just wanted a bit more spice. The collard greens were some of my favorite but the lentils were a bit sweeter than expected? I also didn’t love the sambusas. But, I liked the experience.

Absolutely DELICIOUS Ethiopian food!! Very authentic, flavorful and fresh! Be aware: this is a small family owned restaurant. Aesthetically it’s lacking but you’re here to eat not stare at walls. The family all came out and greeted us and spoke with us. They’re so passionate about their
restaurant and assuring that you enjoy your experience. We got the lamb tibs and vegetarian platter. Very generous and
delicious. It was the perfect sample platter. We ate and ate and ate and they even asked if we wanted extra stew! Really enjoyed the flavor and variety. Will be back to support
this local small business.
