Ocho Rios – Hidden Gem : r/roanoke – Reddit

I went to Ocho Rios Jamaican Cuisine on Williamson(before Ace). Definitely a hidden gem. Fun drink options, good food, clean, great staff, lots of seating.

The oxtails are delicious! The rice and peas and curry goat are yummy. The mac and cheese is tasty. The cabbage taste good. I’m glad we were able to order beef patties. Beef patties should always be on deck . Wondering if the greens came from a can. I thought the rum cake would’ve contained rum, it is just rum flavored ‍♀️. I will be back. Wonderful food! Great service!

The food was delicious, and had generous portions. We had oxtails, with cabbage and rice and peas. They also serve drinks made in-store that are great, we liked the peach flavored one.

The customer service was friendly and there was plenty of seating.

We ordered catering for my work lunch today and we were thoroughly impressed. From ordering to delivery it was a breeze. Each container was labeled so there was no confusion for the vegetarian options. All of the food was delicious!! We ordered: rice and peas, cabbage, jerk chicken with sauce, beef patties, veggie patties, curry vegetables, and fried plantains. I can’t wait to try at the restaurant to taste more of her delicious food!
Wishing many blessing for Ocho Rios!!

Hubby & I stopped for lunch on 5/25. I had the Brown Stew Chicken, he had the Curry Chicken. We both had the rice. The place doesn’t look like much on the outside, but my goodness the food is fantastic. The cornbread side is sweet/savory and the chicken melts in your mouth. We’re going back to try the oxtail.
The staff was so friendly so make sure to check out this gem and support our small local restaurant

We tried this place after hearing about it by word of mouth. We were underwhelmed with the food. The meals did not have any gravy or sauce in them which made everything taste very dry. It was well seasoned and priced fairly as well as nice portions. We barely ate the food because it was so dry. The staff were pleasant but it took about 45 minutes to get our food. The place is new, so it is clean.

Honestly I’ve purchased your food about 5 times in total. Today was the last straw. I walked into the restaurant this afternoon and was hardly greeted properly. Especially if it’s the brown skin/ dark skin female that works the front. Definitely it would be nice at least if they smiled or felt like they cared enough to. Anyway I ordered the food which took about 15 mins to receive lol….. idk why it took so long. But nonetheless the best thing about the food tonight was the Rice, the Mac & cheese needs more flavor and coloring. You guys always play nice music though 12/10
Lastly the food gave me gas, which is why I am up at 2:03 am posting this. A far better Jamaican food option is Caribbeca Soul Downtown!!

When you walk into this quite spotlessly clean unassuming store front on Williamson Road you are transported to Jamaica via the aromas of its cuisine. The menu features all the classic Jamaican dishes that I remember from my more than a dozen trips to the Island. Jerk Chicken, Rice and Peas, Curry Goat, Mac and Cheese, Jamaican Corn Bread, Vegetable Curry, Coconut Shrimp along with Vegetable, Meat and Chicken patties are a few of the offerings. It appears to be family owned with the matriarch doing the cooking old school style while the offspring provides friendly service. I brought the pickiest eater in the house, my 11-year-old granddaughter who gave all the food 10 Stars. Her comments included “the best mac and cheese”, “spicy hot chicken” and “great rice”. This from a child who has shaken her head to trying Jamaican food in the past. One day later and she has already asked when we are going back. For me the Vegetable Curry with sides of cabbage and cornbread reminded me of another time and place sitting in the back of a bar in Kingston eating similar meals for $3. Well, it is many years ago but this Ocho Rios on a quiet part of Williamson Road is relatively inexpensive for 2025 and certainly delicious. It offers super clean cafe style seating in a space that is reminiscent of local Island restaurants. The only aroma missing is the West Indian Breeze coming off the ocean.

We’ve ordered takeout several times to get the curry for myself and jerk chicken for my husband- both are always so flavorful and generous portions! They are also very fast in preparing.

Very delicious food! Be warned, some dishes can be quite spicy. But the Chicken curry was perfect for me. A very large meal of one entree and two sides for a great price. Friendly service!

I’ll start by saying this: I’m a big connoisseur of Island food especially with origins to Jamaica. With that being said, I’ll post my honest review here. I placed my order through #GrubHub and the food arrived safe and well sealed. Upon opening both dishes I noticed the temperature of the food was reasonable and presentation was appealing.

My order consisted of Jerk chicken, cabbage , rice and peas and cabbage.
The following is what I am experienced with each entree. 1.Jerk Chicken was too Hot. I feel the chicken should be #Spicy but not lip tingling spicy; especially in an American setting. This is due to persons not having Caribbean taste buds. (Possibly a Medium or Hot option would suffice). The spice was more dominant on certain parts of the chicken, almost as if the jerk rub wasn’t massaged thoroughly around the entire part.
2. The cabbage could’ve used a little more seasoning and butter. This would help with sealing the flavor as well. The texture was good but for better results I would like a wetter vegetable.
3. Rice and peas-This is the only entree I feel was cooked to perfection. The grains were soft and not mushy. The peas were not split in the middle and flavorful.
