Reviews
You can really tell they take pride in what they do. The portions are generous, the prices are unbeatable, and the service feels personal. If you’re craving classic Chinese food from a family-run spot that cares about quality and value, Hunan Villa is the place to go.
Update 4/24/25: still a super delicious and worthwhile place. I asked for the walnut prawn lunch combo but was charged for and received the full dinner size version, which is honestly no big deal since it’s all delicious, and I don’t mind splitting it into a second meal to enjoy later. I overheard another table of older white women complain to the girl at the register about the price of the meal but they were told they ordered the dinner combo when they thought they asked for the lunch combo size
Portions here are pretty great. It also seems they forgot the walnuts for the walnut prawns, but again I don’t mind since they’re super delicious prawns. Prices have gone up about $1.25 on the combos since I was last here about a year ago, but everyone else’s prices have gone up even more so this place is super worthwhile. The young girl at the register was super nice and helpful as well
Original Review: This is definitely a place I would come back to as a nice, inexpensive Americanized Chinese comfort food.
I got the walnut prawn dinner combination and took pictures of all of it except for the small snack sized bowl of hot and sour soup, which was very pleasant, as a fan of hot and sour soup.
The eggroll was screaming hot, freshly cooked and tasty, while the cheese wonton had been sitting under a hot lamp for a little while but was honestly still very tasty and did not taste stale or anything of that sort.
The fried rice is that kind of quick fried rice many of the cheaper/faster places do, where it’s basically just lightly seasoned white rice with common fried rice add-ons. It’s going to be fluffy instead of firm and slightly greasy.
The chow mein is a good thick noodle type comfort food that honestly fills you up so much faster than you expect. Absolutely no complaints.
The walnut prawns definitely were better than their price point may lead you to think. You get a good portion of meaty, freshly cooked, nicely sweet battered prawns and I could definitely see myself ordering this again.
Service was good, better than you would find at many other family Chinese places of this price point. The teenage boy at the register was helpful and nice and the woman waitress was kind and made sure I was pleased with everything
Now obviously this is not fine dining or anything, but really just a place that is much better than panda express for the same or perhaps cheaper pricing. Definitely 5 stars all said and done when accounting for price
