Dishes you’ve long loved served alongside dishes you’ve never heard of make our ever-changing menu an adventure you’ll want to embark on often. Our wine list is as varied as our food, and every one of our cocktails has been created just for Bombolo by our bar staff. Located three minutes from downtown Chapel Hill and five from I-40, we want everyone to find their favorite seats, whether it’s your usual indoor table, the last two seats at the bar—we saved them just for you!—or with your best friend curled up next to you on our dog-friendly patio. Dress code? Casual. Atmosphere? Animated. Vibes? Vibrant. Come as you are, and come to have a great time. Bombolo offers the Plump Rabbit Sandwiches one Saturday of each month.

Reviews
1) Food: Caesar salad was bizarre – the worst I’ve ever had. It was sour and over salted. The Porchetta was disgusting – a greasy, tough un-readered fat – unedible. The veal and pork poplettes were good. We spent $300+ on our meal.
2) Cleanliness: It was a night when service slammed, but that’s not an excuse. There were sugar flies flying around the drink prep station. Visible glassware had imprints and debris I could see from my seat at the bar. The bartender was extremely messy. I have 20+ experience in the food industry and food safety.
3) Basic Customer Service: It is very difficult to enjoy your meal, when the owner starts an argument with a customer (i think you can find their review) and kicks them out. Was their kid watching an iPad during service? Yes. Could I hear it? No. (which is kind of crazy because the restaurant is already very very loud) But i did hear about it when I can hear your staff talking all kinds of ‘ish’ in a huddle about the customer at the entrance to the kitchen. How did i hear them if the restaurant was loud? Because your staff was standing right next to us. I do not care if the customer was at fault. Good to know that your staff will openly make fun of customers in the open-along with the owner. So unprofessional. You can also see it in how the owner responds to negative reviews on this platform.
There are far better and more reliable, consistent “fine” dining (bombolo is not) options in the area I’ll spend my time and money.
I am happy to be able to say that they still maintained the same quality of food, service, and ambiance they had prior to the recognition!
Came as a table of four as they opened. Parking was a little easier to get this time around because we were earlier than the normal dinner crowd (5PM).
There were a few standouts from the dinner:
Our waitress was excellent! She was on top of everything, friendly, and managed our requests perfectly!
The Chanterelle and Morel Fricassee had a wonderful presentation, and the person who ordered it recommended it highly. The Cinghiale Pappardelle was a respectable portion and delivered on our recent memories of Tuscany.
I had the fried chicken plate, which was delicious! The meat was succulent and the fry coating was well seasoned. The accompanying biscuit and Mac ‘n Cheese was also delicious. If it sounds like a lot of food it was! This is something one could split or take home.
We ordered a white chocolate cardamom and ginger cheesecake and the Bombolo. The cheesecake’s flavors were well balanced. The cardamom did not overpower. The Bombolo was our favorite, however.
I recommend anyone visit if they’re in the area. It’s worth the trip!
Service : We noted a few food sensitivities / allergies at the start, and our server was proactive in assisting us.
Food : The spicy rigatoni (yes sounds simple) was phenomenal, as were the Brussel sprouts. The menu was ambitious, with French, Italian, Thai influences and they were very well executed. Unfortunately, we were so full, we didn’t have a chance to try dessert.
Ambiance : quaint little place, with lots of interesting decor – transports you away.
Thank you for a memorable evening!
The atmosphere here is great. The service was excellent. I don’t understand why anyone would go back to pay for this mediocrity.
I started with the barbecue shrimp. My plate arrived with four shrimp in a rich sauce with bread. Although a little salty, it was quite good. I was mildly put off that request for additional bread elicited additional charge. It was worth it though as I soaked up all the rest of the sauce waiting for my next course.
I chose the octopus as my main course. This plate was robust with plenty of octopus potatoes and sauce. Again, the sauce was quite rich and enjoyable.
I chose the bombolo for my dessert. I wish I had known there was so much orange flavoring in it which was a little overwhelming when what I really wanted was chocolate and hazelnut. It was a miss to not include that in the menu description.
I gave the atmosphere a 4 because the restaurant seems to draw a clientele with an average age of 70, and the Willie Nelson old timey country music just didn’t seem to fit with the rest of the vibe.
I would certainly return.
Back and this place is still wonderful
Menu is completely different
This time sat inside by the bar, Layal was wonderful and attentive and offered a delicious Lebanese arak.
my favorite this time is the fried carbonara bites and the Caesar salad.
Every dish had an extra noche of flavor making it very unique.
The inside is also beautiful and full with European art.
If you haven’t yet, give this place a go.
Review from 2023

had the stuffed shishito peppers which were delicious and the lobster pot equally delicious.
