Absolutely Fantastic Experience at Koi Matsu!
Koi Matsu was outstanding from start to finish. Every dish we ordered was beautifully presented and packed with flavor. The hibachi steak was perfectly cooked—tender, juicy, and coated in a rich, savory sauce that paired incredibly well with the fried rice and fresh vegetables. The sushi was just as impressive: fresh, generous portions, and expertly rolled. The spicy roll with jalapeños had the perfect balance of heat and flavor, and even the classic rolls were top-notch.
The bento box was an amazing value with a great variety—crispy gyoza, flavorful shrimp, delicious rice, and fresh sushi all on one plate. The miso soup and sauces tied everything together perfectly.
On top of the food, the atmosphere was warm and inviting, and the service was attentive and friendly without feeling rushed. You can really tell they care about quality and consistency here.

Koi Matsu is a hidden gem. The food was incredibly fresh — you can immediately taste the quality in every bite. The sushi was clean, well-balanced, and beautifully presented. Everything felt light, flavorful, and made with care. Service was friendly and attentive, and the overall atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming. Definitely coming back. Highly recommend if you’re looking for fresh, quality Japanese food.

New restaurant with nice decor and a cozy feel. When I went for dinner, there was soft jazz music playing and I remember pausing my conversation a few times to enjoy the music. The sushi was pretty good, although a little different than your standard flavors. The seaweed salad came on a bed of mixed greens, which was unexpected. And the mayo on one of my sushi rolls was a little too much for my preference. This won’t become my new favorite sushi place, but if I’m in the area and in the mood for sushi, I’ll definitely give them another try.

I’m genuinely surprised by my rating. After reading the raving reviews, I was so certain Koi Matsu would have blown me away. We entered sometime around 3-5p and no one was in there. I asked the waiter if we could be seated at an open booth, and he took about 10 minutes to clean and prep the area. This isn’t a big deal, but in my opinion, if you have 0 customers, I don’t understand why the tables aren’t being kept clean for new guests. Minor critique though, im just picky. The server was very… unmemorable. Not bad, not great. We had to ask for drink, our check, and there wasn’t a lot of engagement, which is fine, generally, however I told the waiter I was new here and unsure what to try, he didn’t really try to recommend anything. But overall he was polite and courteous so no real complaints there, just points to consider.
We ordered a seafood hot pot, beef marble appetizer and a salmon appetizer. We also got hot green tea.
The tea was good, the salmon appetizer was very vibrant in appearance and tasted fresh. IDR the dish exactly but it was bursting with flavor. I didn’t get a picture. The beef marble was a lot of show for an underwhelming amount of food and flavor. Would not spend $18 on that again.
The hot pot was good. Broth tasted fine, fish inside it tasted good. But overall, very underwhelming of an experience. I had no desire to try dessert.
Again, I am picky! But if im spending money, i can be. Idc lol. I don’t think Id return. Nothing calls me back.

From the interior, to the waiter, to the food, even to the music playing, Koi Matsu is exceptional! High quality, FRESH, sushi. This is the best sushi I have tasted in south Jersey. The waiter was very kind and even gave us miso soup on the house. Best miso soup I’ve tasted! Could eat it by the buckets full. The pan fried vegetable gyoza were EXCEPTIONAL! Fresh veggies. Soooo delicious! I had the spicy salmon roll, California roll, and salmon belly sushi. I will forever dream about the salmon belly sushi. Everything was so delicious. My husband had philly roll, tuna sashimi, and a tuna roll. He agrees that it is the best sushi he’s had.
The interior of the restaurant is so inviting and cozy. I’ve never been to Japan but I certainly felt like I was there based on videos I’ve seen of Japan. The music they were playing was amazing and calming. I loved it. The decor was top notch.
Finally, our waiter was very very kind. I’m not sure if he was the owner or not but he was very professional and even though it started to get busy (especially with DoorDash orders) he always attended to us in a timely fashion.

Me and my wife recently stopped by and did a review. Firstly, the customer service is great and you can tell the owners have true passion behind the brand. I love that day highly make aware that it is a Japanese restaurant and give people education upon the food.
There are a ton of hibachi all you can eat places and much more around, but if you want high quality, high, flavored and actual great food. This is the place you need to stop at.

I ate my food so fast I almost forgot to take a picture. This is our second time coming here and we will be coming here for a LONG time. The rolls are so delicious and fresh. I love the creativity behind the rolls as well. The TikTok roll really suprised me and I love it. Service is fast and the environment is beautiful.

Koi Matsu is a hidden gem in New Jersey. The fresh toro literally melted in my mouth, buttery and clean. The Naruto roll with avocado, salmon, tuna and masago had a delicious, well-balanced sauce that tied everything together. The Katsu spicy tuna came served like a taco and was addictive. Highly recommend for anyone who loves precise, flavorful sushi.
