If you are looking for a decent chain bakery, I recommend Roggenart. They have cozy and inviting seating. Unlike many dune-in locations, the seats are comfortable to settle into and enjoy the atmosphere, food, and conversation.
Relatively quiet although when the line forms it can get a little loud.
Overall it is clean with friendly staff and decent food.

Edited review: so I came back and decided to give this place another try at breakfast and had a completely different experience. My breakfast sandwich was cooked fresh and to order, and the croissant was crumbly and perfect. My pumpkin latte was fabulous and artistic. The place was full of happy people having late breakfast or talking with friends and working. I appreciate the management giving me a thoughtful response to my first review and I’m so glad I came back! I will definitely come again, this is a special place. ❤️
First review: I had such high hopes about this place, we need a cozy place with fabulous European baked goods to complement Frederick. Finally, I was able to get there today and I loved the atmosphere, lots of people were chatting and lingering at tables. But food ordering was a different experience: the sign on the wall is so small I couldn’t read it even though I have 20/20 vision. I ordered the Reuben and while the bread was good the corned beef inside had so many obstinate binders, I had to remove countless inedible bits. Trust me, when you order a Reuben, you hope that it’s made with lean corned beef because you don’t want to go inside and tear it apart with your fingers, it’s quite a mess. Maybe this was the fault of a bad corned beef supplier?

I freelance culinary reviews for local papers and magazines in Frederick and I’ve been eager to try Roggenart for some time. So as I was coming back from Fort Detrick I decided this was a good time to go by and check it out. The bakery appearance was very clean and inviting – I purchased 3 items. The Chocolate Brioche Babka and Chocolate Frangipane Pastry which were over baked and dry. The Cheese Danish had so little cream cheese that it was completly unnoticed. The beverages were great, the service is good and the prices’s were acceptable based on the advertised quality but regrettably the quality was like the cream cheese, simply not there. I never post a rating based on one visit so I will offer a detailed review after giving them another try. But it is worth a visit.

Tried Roggenart for the first time on Saturday morning. The place is very aesthetically pleasing. Self seating after you order from the counter. we ordered the ham and cheese croissant and the strawberry croissant. Both of these were very tasty and very large for the price – would definitely come back.

This is the 3rd time we ordered/have visited this new cafe in Frederick. I paid close to 70.00 for 3 croissants, 2 sandwiches a pretzel, bread pudding and coffee. The bacon, egg and cheese is 12.00. Chicken salad is 14.00 after tax. My hot and cold sandwiches were put together in the same bag so my chicken salad sandwich was hot. The croissants are smaller and smaller every time I go. It’s good but not worth 70.00 for breakfast. Atmosphere is nice and we have been dying for something charming like this with enough room to be comfortable but the quality, quantity, and service doesn’t rise to a standard you would expect when paying 70.00 for a carry out breakfast. I think the sandwiches should be overflowing like in the pictures on their site, which may be ok when paying 14.00 or 12.00 for a single sandwich.

Overall, we had a good experience at this bakery! We absolutely LOVED the food and coffee. The croissants were warm, fluffy, flaky, and delicious. The pretzels were soft, buttery, and full of flavor.
I love to try a caramel latte at coffee shops and this one didn’t disappoint. Their caramel syrup was super creamy and their coffee wasn’t bitter at all. I was very impressed!
The prices weren’t bad either for the quality of food. They also have a section where you could purchase yesterday’s pastries that didn’t sell for 1/2 price which I thought was nice!
I will say though… the line wasn’t super long, yet, we waited nearly 25 minutes to get to the counter to order. Additionally, some of the staff weren’t very friendly which was a bit off-putting for our first time there. The space itself is very open, but the table set-up is a bit awkward. I feel like it could have a cozier feel with a few adjustments!
We’ll definitely be back because of the great options for coffee, pastries, and sandwiches!

Each time I’ve gone, someone always greets me and gives suggestions on what to get. My daughter has an egg and dairy allergy so I love stopping by to pick up their vegan croissant. Today, I learned that they also have a vegan breakfast sandwich with plant-based eggs and cheese. It is not printed on the menu but if you ask, they can make it if the vegan croissants are available. Great atmosphere and kid friendly. Their caramel latte is also delicious; not overly sweet like the some “corporate places”. The croissants are just like the ones in France, delicious, buttery, airy, and flaky.

Very cute, homey vibe. You can’t tell what kind of shop it is from the outside (not sure if that’s on purpose). The food is good and they have an assortment of breaded treats to choose from.

Service and atmosphere was great, that’s were great ends. Very overpriced for what we got, around 14 bucks fir crappy sandwiches with hardly any meat. Stopped by with my wife and mother. The prosciutto baguettes was so so if you like salad on your baguette with a very thin slice of meat, the roast beef looked nothing like the picture very deceiving, here’s a clue for you from someone that’s had 4 restaurants over 40 years. Buy a 25 lb angus inside top round , spice it with salt, pepper, oregano and garlic. Roast to medium, slice and soak in it’s own juices, that’s a delicious roast beef. About your reuben, don’t call it a reuben , it was pathetic, call it anything else, but not a reuben. The chocolate croissant and coffee was the only thing worth 5* otherwise it would’ve been 1 * review. Yall fooled me once, I guarantee it won’t happen again

A Delicious Breakfast Experience at Roggenart European Bakery, Bistro & Café. I was thoroughly impressed with their diverse offerings and quality. I had the chance to try a variety of items, and each one was flavorful and well-prepared.
Started with Boston Cream Danish which was Rich and decadent, filled with smooth Boston cream and topped with a perfectly sweet chocolate glaze. A must-try for pastry lovers.
Chicken Egg Cheddar Breakfast Sandwich was served on croissant. It was delicious and satisfying. It was hard to find chicken texture since it was well blended into the egg. Chicken Avocado Melt is a must try. Chipotle aioli was a highlight.
Almond Croissant had enough balance of sweetness and crunch. Strawberry Custard Croissant, A fruity, custardy treat! Custard had a right amount of sweetness so that it wasn’t overpowering. I believe it is most ordered.
Finished with Mocha Latte Coffee which was well-balanced. Entrance faces east. Entrance is wheelchair accessible. Be prepared for a Q in peak hours.
Overall, Roggenart offers a fantastic range of breakfast items, and excellent coffee. The atmosphere was cozy, and the staff were friendly and efficient. If you’re looking for a great European-style café experience, I recommend Roggenart and I will return for more.
