The team behind Shiro’s Sushi, with a nearly 30-year legacy of serving Edomae-style sushi, opened ShoMon Kappo Sushi, a kappo style restaurant offering an inspired multi-course kappo and sushi menu, localized in its ingredients and chef’s expression. The refined Japanese menu at ShoMon will blend tradition and innovation infused with the virtues of Japan’s formal and elegant kappo restaurants. ShoMon will integrate the rich flavor of golden, clear dashi (dried bonito flakes and kelp), the foundation of kappo cuisine, with nigiri sushi and sashimi, meat, and traditional Japanese cooking techniques passed down through the ages in a seasonal, coursed menu.

To start, really enjoyed the sake menu with some truly unique and tasty sake options and the staff were able to help navigate depending on palette and preference. The fish as you would expect were all excellent and all unique. A perfectly sized meal to not overindulge.
Now onto the best part, the food. My dinner tonight was 8 courses. The food and flavors here are something close to magical. Never have I had chutoro that melts in your mouth like it does here.
On some of the pieces of sashimi they put on jelly flakes that has been marinated, as do the sauce level is controlled evenly. On some, zest of citrus is also added.
The atmosphere is very intimate, especially if you sit at the counter. As the chef will tell you about the dish, and even take a selfie with you too.
All and all, this place is incredible. Definitely check it out.
Food: 5/5. The menu is very unique, which I really enjoyed. Although not entirely traditional, they add a really great twist to omakase by providing a good variety of hot dishes, appetizers, and nigiri. The fish is complimented very well by the small additions, rather than having the fish overpowered by adding too much to it. A lot of care and experience is put into their menu and it shows.
Overall I highly recommend this place. The food alone is reason to go, but the service and unique menu really make ShoMon shine. I would put them up there with the best omakase I’ve had across the US.
The omakase experience was beautifully presented and thoughtfully curated. Highlights included the Wagyu with Porcini Mushroom Rice, Bluefin Tuna, and the Dashi Soup with Matsutake and Osmanthus—each dish delicate and refined. The flavors were fresh and balanced, and the Apple and Mo-shio Milk Cream dessert ended the meal on a light note.
Service:
The service was impeccable—attentive, professional, and perfectly timed. The staff explained each course with care and made the entire dining experience smooth and enjoyable.
️ Environment:
The ambiance was calm and elegant, with a minimalist design that let the food shine. Sitting at the counter and watching the chefs work added to the overall charm. It’s a cozy and sophisticated setting for a special night out. ✨
The service was excellent—friendly, attentive, and informative. However, the food didn’t quite meet our expectations. It leaned more toward fusion-style Japanese cuisine rather than traditional flavors. While we did enjoy a few of the dishes, others didn’t quite hit the mark for us in terms of taste.
Because of that, we decided to take one star off our rating.
Overall, it felt more like a one-time experience rather than a place we’d return to regularly.
