Michelle and Scott have brought 1st class service and exceptional food to Smithfield. The venue is so charming and each bite from appetizer to desert is an explosion of flavor and soul. Definitely worth the drive!

We arrived at 6pm on a Friday evening. No-one greeted us so we stood around for a while, then walked into the “martini bar”. No-one greeted us there either. Eventually the only other diners, a couple with their daughter, suggested we could sit anywhere. So we picked a table and sat. Eventually someone came and brought us menus. There was a dinner menu, and a tapas menu. We asked for wine, but apparently there was no wine menu printed, so the waitress needed to carry in a blackboard showing the wines. We chose a $45 bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon. When the waitress brought it to our table sometime later she served it already poured into two glasses, both with metal charms around them. We ordered from the tapas menu – Lamb Popsicles and Buttered Popcorn Tofu – the latter were marked as “House favorites!”. The lamb was cooked perfectly, and the mint sauce on the side was lovely, although the lamb was coated in a crunchy quinoa that quite ruined it. The tofu was bland and without any sauce. For our second round we chose escargots and crab cakes. The Escargots were amusingly served with dainty escargot forks, even though they were not in their shells. And while delightful, there was so much garlic, salt and cheese, that the escargots could have been mushrooms and no-one would have known the difference. The crab cakes were quite pleasant. Four appetizers and a bottle of mediocre red wine cost $98. We love to support local restaurants, but Smithfield has far better options at far more reasonable prices. Most of the evening we were the only diners, and the chef never came out to say hello? We will try again, but next time we’ll limit ourselves to the martini menu and the burger menu, and hope for a more impressive experience.
