Loved the calamari. The fish and chips were fresh and the breading was very light. The salmon sandwich too tasted great.
However, the food took a very long time to arrive every though the two of us got there before a larger group. Also for the food prices, it is a little strange that they have plastic cutlery and they charge a fee for credit cards. If they just increased the price a tiny amount and avoided the fee, it would feel less that we were being nicked and dimed. And lastly, they gave us the password for WiFi and that was the only time that I missed the ship’s WiFi !!
So on a whim yesterday (Feb. 21st, 2026), around 4PM, I decided to finally give the place a shot after seeing a Facebook post that it was open again. Ordered the Beast Burger (medium rare) and a thing of mixed bread. The mixed bread was delicious, so were the fries, and at first I didn’t think think anything was amiss about the Beast Burger. There’s not a lot of places out in Sitka that offer decent burgers, so it caught my eye as I’ve been looking for a solid burger to try after diminishing results from a place prior.
Before I go any further, I will admit that I did not check my burger, and the image I provided is only from my leftovers several hours later.
Around 10:30PM the same night, I began to get nauseated and experienced very awful stomach cramps that left me on the floor of my bathroom for a solid 8 minutes. I was finally able to stand up to go lay down on my bed without much mess after, but I proceeded to have a lot of discomfort in my stomach for the rest of the night (and particularly distressing dreams, although this might be entirely unrelated). When I woke up about 30 minutes ago, I decided to check my burger and discovered what is likely the issue.
Fairly disappointed to say the least, as its also my first time ever getting food poisoning from any store or restaurant in Sitka. Much less one that I’ve heard much praise for from coworkers. It wasn’t even like the service or atmosphere was bad like other places in town, but I’ve not been put down by something that bad since my teenage years in Dallas.
Seems like a one off incident, so I hope this does not dissuade future guests, but this was a rough experience on my end.
The servers were nice but a little slow. For how crowded the place was, and one of the only places offering sit down dining around, I understand that.
If you’re in Sitka looking for some amazing Crab and don’t get scared off by the price you are in for a treat!
My daughter and I both ordered the Lemon Lobster Linguine, my husband ordered the Mangiare Meatballs and my youngest ordered the kids buttered pasta (perfect for the picky eaters). All the food was generous servings and good!
We haven’t had the chance to try a lot of places in Sitka, but this is one that we did really enjoy and would recommend if you enjoy pasta!
It was chilly outside and the main door was open, so we did get hit with cold air once in a while, but handled it well. We found that some tables were in good spots to feel the heat, other’s not so much.
The place seemed to be well taken care of, very clean as well as the bathrooms.
My seafood chowder was excellent! A perfect amount with bread for lunch. The only reason we gave the food a 4 is because you can’t specify how to cook your meat. It came a bit well done for my partners taste. But overall food was good. Atmosphere was good. Definitely recommend.
My mom also dislike sweets so I am usually the one to indulge in desserts but as soon as she tried a bite of my lemon curd cake (which my waitress recommended over my usual chocolate cake request) she ate more than the half of it.
She was genuinely delighted so I knew I had to leave a 5 star review.
My lobster linguine was delicious and I loved how you see every bits of the lobster as if the the shell was still on, so it showed that it was fresh and carefully removed.
The linguine was perfectly cooked al dente. My picture doesn’t do justice to the dish cause as I ate, more pieces of lobsters appeared- a real treat!
The restaurant is small but has plenty of seating. It seems that bartender is also serving food from the kitchen since it was next to each other. The restroom is straight down the hall from the main entrance.
We came from a cruise to Alaska so we had limited time to explore but it seems that Mangiare was the only restaurant in a small area with only a handful of shops.
I didn’t notice the name on the window and was using google maps to look for a place to eat but was drawn in by the Sitka Hotel and Lounge sign that was over the entrance door.
This restaurant was definitely a highlight in Sitka. Pricing is actually cheaper than most seafood dishes in Miami, Florida. My mom and I truly enjoyed our food and will look for Mangiare on our next visit.
