I ordered online presuming it would be an “in and out” occasion. I could not have been more wrong.
There was one younger male behind the counter, a young couple, and an older gentleman as customers. I immediately looked at the rack for online orders and was disappointed to not see anything there. Resigning myself to having to wait, I casually walked around the convenience store that Subway is located inside of. When I made my way back over, the three younger people were carrying on a conversation consisting of the employee complaining about being the only one there (Strike 1) followed by the three of the younger people having a casual conversation about people each of them knows. The older gentleman was visibly (and understandably) irritated (Strike 2). About that time, a young female employee (manager??) came in with an attitude complaining about having to work on Saturday when she’s told them that she can’t due to having children and no baby sitter (a fact that apparently needed repeating).
The young lady asked who was next and I pointed to the older gentleman out of respect. The young male proceeded with my online order. When the meat and cheese was placed on my sub, I politely asked if I could get it toasted. The young lady asked what was requested when placing the order. I casually said that I didn’t see the option when placing the order on my phone. She proceeded to not so kindly inform me that the option was there and the fact I didn’t see it was now an inconvenience (Strike 3!). The guy making the order didn’t seem to mind the “inconvenience” and toasted the sub.
I have worked customer service probably longer than both employees collectively had been living. We all have bad days. But the behavior, truthfully of both, but more so the female, was very unprofessional. There are too many people looking for a job that if you don’t like the one you’re at that much, someone else would be happy to replace you.
