I love going to Roots Natural Kitchen whenever I want something fresh, filling, and healthy. The El Jefe bowl with all the works is my go-to — it’s so flavorful and always tastes incredibly fresh. The portions are generous too; you could honestly split a bowl with another person and still feel satisfied. It’s a great spot if you want something that tastes good and makes you feel good after eating.

great is good with a pretty big portion. customizable but menu has specialized bowls. it feels healthy and fresh. i usually get it delivered but have been in the store once to order. they make the bowl in front of you and asks you what you want. you get to see the ingredients. it usually lasts me one meal + a snack

We really enjoyed our lunch at Roots. A very healthy alternative. Staff was welcoming and friendly. I enjoyed the Tamari and my husband had the southern. Everything is Chopped well so that is ready to eat without having to cut up. You can get a salad or grain based bowl by one of their designed bowls or build your own.

I was in town for a day and came upon Roots. The staff were very friendly and made several recommendations. I decided to order The Balboa. The price was reasonable and it was made fresh and promptly. There’s plenty of protein in this bowl, which I really love. And it has a unique tangy flavor and crunch. The sweet potatoes were a nice, flavorful touch, too. I’m glad that I stopped in.

Got the Rocky Balboa. Absolutely delicious. So many different flavors hitting at once but melding perfectly. One bowl left me very full and satisfied. Will definitely be coming back for more soon.

Do yourself a favor and eat here!
Amazing food! I mean Amazing! We had the Mayweather. It was so much food and so filling. Everything was fresh and tasted wonderful. The service was also great. If we are ever in Chapel Hill again we will stop in!

Solid bowl option but nothing special to push it over the top to 5 stars. I left feeling still kinda hungry but the food itself was delicious. My friend got a make your own bowl which looked significantly larger than my menu selection. Many good gluten free and allergen friendly options.

I found myself initially confused by the menu, particularly since almost every dish contains Kale, and I simply don’t like Kale. And then more confusion because the names for the various dishes didn’t really explain the taste, and the large number of ingredients in each dish didn’t really give me a sense of the flavor that I would experience. So I went with a build your own bowl, choosing the ingredients on the menu that made me salivate. The bowl that I put together (with a suggestion by my daughter of a matching dressing and adding an ingredient with crunch), turned out to be out of this world, tasty, different, original and fresh. And the bowl and portions are huge. The seating and atmosphere is beautiful. 5 Stars all the way!

4.5 stars if I could. Stopped in on a Saturday evening a little before a UNC home game and was surprised it wasn’t too busy given the numbers of people out on the street. The hubs and I both ordered the El Capitan special (pulled pork bowl) and the staff couldn’t be more friendly and accommodating. The bowls were filling, ingredients were fresh and flavorful. The outdoor seating was nice and value was great. Not a fancy place but it hit the spot!

Update, 2 years later: I still consistently eat here. My tastes have evolved to fixate on sour savory foods so I tend to get any bowl, swap an ingredient for pickled onions, swap something less substantial for broccoli or sweet potato, and add multiple squeezes of chipotle tabasco and lime. And I’ll take some chipotle tabasco on the side. I really appreciate how enabling they are for this level of customization.
I highly recommend this combo if it piques your interest.
Once I got raw chicken here, which scared me off their chicken for a while.

Great, but expensive! Everything tastes great, but I wish the proportions leaned less towards rice and more towards the protein, especially for the price. Still, I got a decent meal and a solid snack out of the leftovers. I highly recommend the Southern bowl.
