I ordered the salmon skin salad and unfortunately it was very disappointing. The salmon skin was overcooked and had an unpleasant smell that made it seem not fresh. I politely let the server know that I did not like the dish, but the response was unprofessional and came across as rude. I was told that because I ordered it, I had to pay for it. Overall, both the food quality and the customer service were disappointing.

This review is written from a sushi perspective, which is generally all we eat at Japanese restaurants. To that end, the food was solid, but not great.

My wife’s roll was overly cold, suggesting it might have been made ahead of time. A couple of my nigiri pieces were rather tough, though the white tuna, in particular, was excellent. I also liked my spicy tuna roll quite a bit. It was basically a rice roll with a heap of spicy tuna on top, which I thought was cool. I didn’t like not being able to see the sushi chef(s), though. That’s not typical.

Service was good, but I felt the food was just too expensive for the quality level. For my money, Kawaii Tori in Yardley has a much better product.

Great local sushi restaurant! The ambiance is intimate and the staff is highly attentive. We started with getting the jalapeño yellowtail (spicy and great), sushi pizza (amazing), and the tempura shitake (good). We then got the $150 sushi boat with chefs choice. They also have $100 and $120 versions. Everyone agreed the boat was a lot of fun and delicious, and filled everyone up. We had 5 people. Great choice for a group. We ended the meal with a mix of the green tea and mango mochis, which were good as always. Definitely try out Ota Ya if you’re looking for a new local sushi place around Newtown / Yardley!

An absolute amazing place. We have been coming here for 10+ years and the food has gotten better and better. The fact that the owners know you by name and know what you want is just amazing.

Get sushi. Any kind of sushi here is super fresh and tasty. Pickled ginger side is great.

We used to go to the Lambertville location all the time. Once a week for years. They closed. We went to the Newtown location. Very friendly waitress. Byob. Sushi was not really cold. Don’t like that. Rolls were good. Mixed experience

Ota-Ya is hands down the best sushi restaurant in Newtown! The sushi is absolutely delicious — fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. You can taste the love and care the staff put into every dish, and their kindness and warmth make the experience even more special. The service is always friendly and welcoming, making you feel like family from the moment you walk in. The Spicy Rock Roll was pure heaven — perfectly balanced with just the right kick. If you love sushi, this is the place you need to try!

Tried all the sushi restaurants in the area and this is the best! Family atmosphere, they get to know you by name and welcome you each time. Love the variety of sushi, they will customize as you like and it’s BYO, which I love. Only improvement would be to renovate to make it look a little nicer, but not if the prices will increase:) I am hesitant to recommend it more, for fear that it will become too crowded. LOVE THIS PLACE!

Best sushi ever! Very friendly owners! Highly recommend. Also, try the New Style Sashimi (appetizer) and ask for the chef’s special roll (we had the One Time Roll).
