I’ve had a couple of wonderful meals here recently — the lamb shank with orzo is a personal favorite. We also did a four-course Greek wine dinner that was both delicious and informative. Great food, warm attentive service, and I’m already looking forward to the next wine dinner!

Taverna Khione is small, cozy, and just really good. The menu changes with the seasons, and you can tell they care about where the ingredients come from. Local meats, vegetables, seafood, all treated simply and skillfully.

I’m a happy repeat customer. The food is flavorful and satisfying, the kind of meal you want to linger over. The wine list is especially great, a fresh Greek lineup you don’t see much of in Maine, and it’s clearly very well curated.

Make a reservation ahead of time. It’s tiny and fills up fast, for good reason!

This was the most authentic, and expertly crafted Greek food I have ever had outside of Greece. Maybe even including Greece… It was truly a phenomenal meal! Highlights were the grilled octopus (pictured) and the lamb chops with grilled lemon potatoes (the potatoes were transcending). The moussaka tasted like a beloved recipe that had been passed down and perfected for hundreds of years. You can feel the respect and understanding of the provenance of these dishes, and I feel so lucky to have this spot in our sweet town!

This tiny restaurant is very nice! My sweetie and I had a wonderful time here. Great service, and great food. The wine and Greek coffee were really good, too. We had cured scallops, tzatziki dip, grilled octopus, and a couple other tasty morsels. Sweetie said she really enjoyed the pine-sap ice cream too.

I don’t know what was better the service or the food, and to top it all off they have real greek (turkish coffee). The place is small but comfortable. A true Greek spice palette.

Every bite transports you to Greece, or may as well with its on point and fresh flavors. Don’t miss the dips, sesame crusted feta, Greek salad, grilled squid, great entrees, and may have had the best mint chocolate ice cream of my life!
Seriously the best meal in the area of greater Portland north. Small place, make reservations or come early!

Taverna Khione is definitely the best choice when you visit Brunswick. We ordered pork shoulder and mussels, both are delicious.

Nice place, definitely reminded me of being back in Europe. From the service to the flavors. Was really nice. For $84, we got 2 pasta dishes, 2 starters: cheese and fig, toast with spread, 2 glasses of wine. I lived in France for 13 years. This restaurant def took me back there. Only difference is that it would cost half the price in France. Would definitely recommend trying this place out.

We came in tonight and had an absolutely lovely time! Our waitress explained the uniqueness of certain Greek wines and gave us samples to make sure we liked it before we bought a bottle. EVERYTHING was absolutely fantastic, and the food was delicious!! This place is a gem – we will definitely be back. HIGHLY recommend!!!

I recently dined at Taverna Khione with a group of friends, but our experience was overshadowed by poor customer service and confusing reservation policies.

We made two separate reservations as a workaround, anticipating that we might have a slightly larger group. Upon arrival, we showed up with 5 people, which, based on their OpenTable listing, should have been acceptable since they advertise parties of 5+ with an extended reservation time. However, the restaurant expressed frustration that we didn’t call to confirm this specific party size in advance, and they ultimately charged us a $100 no-show fee—even though we were present, ate, and paid in full.

Throughout the evening, we were courteous to the staff, and our frustration only surfaced when we learned of the surprise charge after our meal. When we contacted the restaurant afterward to discuss it, they remained firm, citing policies that didn’t match what’s advertised online. The entire issue could have been avoided with clearer communication or some flexibility on their end.

Overall, the food was enjoyable, but Taverna Khione’s rigid and misleading approach to reservations made us feel undervalued as customers. I hope management reconsiders these practices, as we were left with a sour impression of what is otherwise a well-regarded local spot.
