I’ve been visiting Aumakua Kava Lounge since 2020 and have truly enjoyed watching it grow into what it is today. It’s an authentic Pāʻia gem offering the best kava on Maui, in my opinion. They feature a variety of kava selections, including a locally grown Hawaiʻi option, along with retail items and full kava kits for those who want to bring the experience home.
What really sets Aumakua apart is their take on traditional tiki-style drinks — all crafted with kava instead of alcohol. Each one is beautifully made, all natural, and completely alcohol-free, offering a fun and mindful twist on the classic island cocktail experience.
Beyond the drinks, Aumakua shines in its dedication to education, cultural knowledge, and respect for the roots of kava. The team is incredibly welcoming, making both newcomers and seasoned kava lovers feel right at home. The space itself is community-focused, family-friendly, and filled with good vibes — even kids are welcome to join in the relaxed atmosphere.
If you haven’t been yet, go. It’s an absolute must when you’re in Pāʻia.

Came in on an accidental find, and it has been a highlight of our trip to Maui so far! Kai, the bartender, gave us a full rundown on the Kava, the Polynesian heritage, and the beneficial effects of the products he serves. We had the Fish Bowl and the Espresso Martini, both were far better than anticipated and better than most bars best concoction. Most of all though, at the bar we had us two tourists from Texas, plus one from Minnesota, and three locals who were originally from New York, Phillie, I don’t know about the other guy because he didn’t want to join the quickly flowing, and exceptionally friendly conversation, but nobody minded in the slightest! This place is so chill and awesome, I could only dream of having one back home in Texas!

We had a wonderful time here with kava and Kai! He’s a cocktail artist from Philly, transplanted right here in Pa’ia to create delicious concoctions and spread the love of kava. Pictured here is the Pain Killer, which tastes sweet, tangy, and earthy. Do a kava ceremony and get one of these. You’ll feel tingly and like maybe humanity is pretty darn alright. Non-alcoholic and just what the doctor ordered for harried travelers wanting to embrace the aloha spirit.

Kai, our bartender, was fantastic—super knowledgeable about Kava and the cocktails. I tried the Cat 5, Mermaids Dream and the Zombie, and all were excellent. I had such a great time here!

Had a lovely visit and the Kava was exactly what I needed. Traveling solo with two energetic little ones in tow had me wiped out but the kava and greater customer service gave me the boost I needed.
And the brownie was out of this world – my goodness!

Kai is the BEST person EVER. Helped my friend have the most wonderful intro to Kava experience. He is extremely kind and knowledgeable about the history, culture, and the products. He exudes an amazing warmth that is very inviting and encourages guests to interact with one another. My favourite kava bar to date!

I had the Painkiller drink and it was fabulous! The people and the atmosphere were top notch. Be kind, bring smiles, and they will treat you like Ohana.
We didn’t eat there, so I cannot speak to the quality of food if it is offered. However, if it is as good as their drinks you won’t be disappointed.

I love this place! No need to compare to other bars like Haleakava; it’s apples and oranges. Haleakava more local and roots vibe, and Aumakua more of a classy and fancy drinks vibe. Love them both!

We did a search for a “bar” and this place popped up. I had never tried kava before this and this was a total surprise. Very relaxing vibe and the waitress was extra helpful and knowledgeable. I asked for something to pick me up, and was rewarded with a coffee cocktail. Our group sat and chatted for some time, never feeling rushed. It was a great experience. Will try again.
