Terribe Applebee’s Experience
I need to share my recent visit to Applebee’s, which was honestly disappointing. Here are the specifics:
– Service: Took over an hour for food for 3 people. The server kept saying, “the food is coming,” but the wait never improved.
– Insects: Gnats were noticeable during the meal, which was off-putting and unsanitary.
– Drinks: My Pina Colada arrived yellowish, which didn’t look appealing and raised doubt about freshness.
– Food quality:
– Mashed potatoes: Tasteless.
– Chicken: Over-seasoned, not enjoyable.
– Fries: Fries were hard and overcooked, adding to the dissatisfaction.
– Presentation: Food presentation was not enticing or appealing.
Bottom line: The experience was far from satisfactory, it was darn right terrible particularly given the wait time, cleanliness concerns, and questionable food quality. If you’re considering visiting, you might want to manage expectations or choose a different restaurant. Also you may want to sweep the outside to look more appealing!
If they dont improve they will not last.

Good food and nice service. Was easy to get into and everything looked clean. The booths were a bit small but we just moved to a high top and that was fine.

I’m not sure why this location has negative reviews because my family and I had a great experience. The food was delicious and well-seasoned, and the service was excellent. Our server, Raven, was very polite and attentive, making sure we were completely satisfied. An 18% gratuity was added, and it was absolutely deserved—I even added an extra tip because everything was wonderful. 10/10!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Went there for lunch, party of 2. We arrived at 12:50p and were immediately at a high top near the bar. Bar was busy, all seating area taken. The rest of the restaurant wasn’t too busy and yet a server never came. The bartender noticed we were looking to get someone’s attention and he came out from behind the bar apologized and took our order. I’d say this was around 1:05p Drinks came out almost immediately but our food (which was a burger and appetizer platter) didn’t come out until 1:55p! The bartender apologized stating the kitchen was backed up but it was hard to see how that was if it wasn’t busy. There was a lot of staff and hard to tell what their role
was. Some seemed to be unloading boxes near the large TV area. I can’t imagine how long it’d take to be served dinner on a Friday/weekend evening. I don’t mind the automatic 18% but do wonder if automatic gratuity reduces attentiveness and level of service.

wish we saw this sign sitting on the side of the computer where nobody is standing, because our server, Mikela W, did not try the entire time. did not work for the tip. and all four of us had our items sent to our table incorrectly multiple times, and we still had to tip her $24 required. what a waste and terrible experience. don’t be sorry just do better. two of four of the people at our table actually serve for an applebees for 2+ years and know how stuff goes while our server ARGUED with us loudly while walking off when we pointed out that things were missing for our drinks, even when it was stated on the menu. whole time she knew she was getting paid so she didn’t want to fix it. I’d never eat here again if i knew i’d get tipped no matter what i guess i wouldn’t try at my job either! also we pity tipped her just to find out the 18% got added anyways, you should have disclosed that verbally. what a scam.

Met a friend there in a Sunday afternoon. There weren’t enough servers but we didn’t have a problem waiting. We were told that we would be seated shortly. Then a couple walked in and they were told they could go directly to the bar. So we did the same.
We waited at least 20 minutes just for appetizers. The place wasn’t crowded. Very few patrons at tables and booths. We counted less than 10 people at the bar. My dessert came after the appetizers and before my meal. I ordered a blondie and it was completely overcooked!!
My friend didn’t get her food until after my complete meal came out. 1st she got her appetizer and then the dessert which was cold (she ordered brownie bites). I noticed most of the people at the bar were complaining about their food and wait time.
They charge 18% gratuity on every check and the service is subpar. I excited to have an Applebee’s in the area. I love the menu selection but this restaurant was a disappointment. The location could be so much nicer. I hope changes are made soon.

My husband went to Applebee’s in Matteson a couple of weeks ago. We were so happy with the food and experience that we returned. I wish I knew all the name of the hostess and waitstaff because they all deserve to be recognized for their fast and courteous service, as well as making customers feel at home. Ace, our most recent server was nothing less than amazing. She seemed to know what we needed, when we needed it. Very personable service all the way around. This will, in no doubt, become our go to place. Thank you.

This Applebee’s is in the perfect spot! My Husband and I were here a little over a week ago, and was very satisfied with the food and staff! The cocktails need to be a bit better. They have way too much added mix and not enough liquor. We will be returning, but not for long if the cocktails don’t improve. People love good food, and to have good cocktails to top it off!

I would rate this restaurant a 3/10 overall. The service was excellent—our waitress, Shari, was amazing, very sweet, and attentive, which truly made the experience better.
Unfortunately, the food did not meet expectations. I started with a salad as my appetizer, which was 10/10—very fresh and enjoyable. My friend ordered mozzarella sticks, which were also 10/10, though the marinara sauce was not appealing.
For the main courses, I ordered the classic combo. The BBQ wings lacked flavor on their own, but were better once sauce was added. I did not try the quesadillas, as they did not look appetizing. The artichoke dip was disappointing, although the chips were good.
My friend ordered the steak cooked medium, but it was still very chewy. The broccoli was bland with no noticeable seasoning, and the macaroni was unpleasant—both of us agreed the texture was comparable to loaded mashed potatoes.
Our server, Shari, kindly offered a discount, which we initially declined, but she and the manager applied one anyway. We appreciated that gesture. The drinks, however, were good.
Overall, while the service and drinks were enjoyable, I’m unsure if I would return for the food.
