The atmosphere is not quite classically Indian — more of a minimalist street-neon vibe, without ethnic overload, closer to a fusion format or a “cheap and cheerful” approach.
The tandoori chicken was genuinely very good: juicy, aromatic, with a well-balanced mix of spices. The naan was thin and very crispy; I’m not sure how authentic that is, but flavour-wise it was perfectly decent.
Now to the burger saga.
One of the orders looked very far from what is shown on the menu – the presentation and appearance differed noticeably from the photos. Your rather snide note that “the photos are used for reference only” is not really an excuse. Formally — perhaps yes, but the gap between expectation and reality was simply too large to brush off with that comment. At the very least, it should have been clarified in advance that the chicken is served in pieces rather than as a patty — and the slightly “tired” buns also looked quite sad visually. It may well taste fine, but presentation does matter.
Fortunately, we were not asked to pay for this mishap, and for that reason I will graciously refrain from making this misunderstanding the first photo in the review 😉
Additionally, one of the group ordered main (!) dishes never arrived, which was particularly disappointing, as the chicken was intended as a starter rather than a main resulting someone still hungry.
On the positive side: the juices were of good quality, without a kilo of ice, and priced quite reasonably. The lassi was also enjoyable.
Overall: tasty food, but there are questions regarding presentation, communication, and how accurately the menu reflects reality. The place has potential, but it would benefit from more attention to detail.
P.s. why do you need tables outside? Looks a bit odd
The food itself is tasty, the standout being the Hyderabad chicken curry (you can chooose bone or boneless, we went with bone). The prawn masala was also really good, albeit not enough prawn. The biryani (what I came for) was also good. Not the best Hyderabadi biryani I’ve had but solid and generous compared to other restaurants.
The thing that put me off slightly was the ridiculous corkage fee of $15. It was just my partner and I and the corkage was almost the price of the bottle of wine. I’ve never seen such a high corkage fee and I wish they would reduce it as it doesn’t cost them much as they are not losing out on alcohol sales as they don’t serve any.
Other than that, I would go back again to try their other dishes and we were both very satisfied with our meals.
Tried the Garlic Paneer Noodles, which brought authentic Hyderabadi flavors—spicy, garlicky, and truly satisfying. The Mutton Biryani was a standout—rich, aromatic, full of flavor, and with just the right touch of ghee. And not to forget the fried rice…yum
If you’re craving Indian food with genuine taste, this spot is a must-try. Highly recommend giving it a go and enjoying some seriously good food!
Tried the new Indian restaurant in town and was seriously impressed. We had chicken biryani which is full of flavor, and the garlic naan was perfectly done. The staff were friendly, and the cozy decor added to the experience. Authentic taste, great service — definitely worth a visit!
Forgot to add !!!!! The delicious Paya
Tried Mirchi Bajji and Egg Noodles at Chowrastha in Perth, and both were absolutely finger-licking good! The Mirchi Bajji had the perfect crunch with just the right amount of heat — a nostalgic taste straight from the streets of India. And the Egg Noodles? Packed with bold flavors, perfectly cooked, and super satisfying. You can really taste the care in every bite.
On top of the amazing food, the service was warm and friendly, making the whole experience even better. If you’re in Perth and craving authentic Indian street-style food, Chowrastha is a must-visit!
Highly recommend and can’t wait to go back and try more from the menu
When we heard about this restaurant opening, pretty much excited to visit
Staff was welcoming, had a good talk with them
Ordered few starters, paneer 65 was my favourite
My friends liked chicken Majestic
It took a while to get the food, we understood as it was a first day so it’s quite busy
They even offered us free soft drinks
For main course, we ordered paneer kaju biryani, chicken biryani and noodles
Paneer biryani- we were expecting it more like a masala gravy and all the spices, but it was just like a fried rice. We mentioned that so they haven’t charged us
My friends said the chicken dum biryani and noodles were good
Reasonable prices and a pleasant atmosphere!
