What exactly is a “manjookie”? It’s a hybrid word combining the Japanese pastry “manju” and “cookie”. For those that don’t know, a manju is a small, circular-shaped pastry that has a soft cookie-like exterior, hollow in the center and traditionally filled with mashed azuki or lima beans. Here, they take it a step further with fruit fillings of strawberry, cranberry, coconut, lilikoi pineapple, guava apricot, strawberry lilikoi, strawberry guava and sweet potato. While I have yet to try them, we picked up a box for a family friend in Oregon who was requesting some. They aren’t sold individually but come in a small box/bag for around $8.00 that yields about six pieces. Shipping is available.

They also sell traditional cookies in a variety of flavors. I tried a sample of their Shortbread Macadamia Nut and it was good! Very buttery with a light crunch. The bags sell for around $9.00.

SERVICE:
We were greeted as we entered and offered assistance from a friendly gal who I presume was the owner.

This place is so cute and has the best cookies I’ve ever tasted. They are fresh and i love the pineapple filling cookie the most. Peanut butter one is a definite try too!. The chips snacks are fresh and made so flavorful as well. Multiple selections of items and clean place. Staff is kind as well and gives off a great local feel of Maui. Definitely ordering these online as well .

I was excited to try these unique cookies and support a local small business. The cookies do not disappoint: buttery on the outside and just the right amount of subtle sweetness and flavor of the inside fillings. Lilikoi-pineapple, azuki, and Ube really hit the spot, and the Cornflake Butter Cookies were a crispy delight.

Lots of choices to choose from. First heard about manjookies from a friend… He said it’s the hidden gem of Maui. It’s a little expensive but after you’ve tried it I feel it was worth the cost… So good

I love manju so I had to try Manjookies while I had the opportunity to stop in on one of my drive out to Kahului.
I like the traditional azuki beans so I got a bag and also got a bag of mocha mac nut cookies. Both was delightfully yummy! I’ve had other manju from other bakeries and this is by far one of the best I’ve had! I do think it is overpriced for a small bag…cookies are a bit overpriced as well. Nonetheless it was worthwhile to try it once!

These are the very best cookies that I have had the pleasure to enjoy. They are very addicting and being a paddler, I have to watch out how many I devour at one time. Janelle puts out a great procut.

The cookies are terrible it’s like eating sand. The customer service is terrible. The cashier lady is not very welcoming at all. She treated us like trash. Work on your people skills girl!

The most delicious cookies on the whole island. No funny additives, no glucose syrup, just old fashioned cookies the way they should be.
