I was greeted at the door by a smiling woman, who I later found out was the OWNER, immediately offering to help me out. I told her I didn’t want to cook dinner and asked her to pick something out for my husband
Wow! Did she ever! Luis was totally impressed and loved every bite! He said the beans had lots of flavor, the rice was good and tasty. And the meat was awesome because it had great seasoning with a touch of lemon
I’d say he was impressed and that’s what matters to me!
It’s a small menu, in a small venue, but the food seems really authentic. The enchiladas are not what we understand commonly to be enchiladas, more like cheese rolled in bread and covered in sauce. I don’t really care WHAT you call them, they’re delicious.
In the photos you can see my enchiladas huastecas, with green and red sauce. I really didn’t need any of the salsas, these had enough of the very tasty but quite spicy sauce on them. The white bottle contains a lovely crema that added coolness and terrific counterpoint to the spice.
The eggs were ordered up, but came over, and still, perfectly cooked. The “corned beef” is, again, not like what we consider corned, but beautifully marinated and a little like very tasty and savoury jerky.
The coffee cup was immense.
Service was a little off. I think my server was a little surprised someone so obviously not Latin was there, but I got what I wanted quickly, and with a smile.
Very pleasant, homey, chill vibe. Three gentlemen ate menudo in the corner with their own coronas. I must return to try the lunch foods, and at least the menudo.
Prices are more than reasonable, especially considering the quality. For a small spot, it can get packed fast, but that’s just proof it’s good. Sure, parking is tight, but the moment you walk inside, all that melts away. You’re instantly focused on the food in front of you and the people you’re sharing it with.
Tia’s Kitchen is more than a meal, it’s an experience, and one that feels like home.
Stay away from this place I will say this is not a 4.5+ restaurant. I had an incredibly disappointing visit to this restaurant and would not recommend it. First, they charged me for TAP WATER , which I’ve never encountered at any restaurant in my life, and they never refilled it despite my glass being empty. This was especially frustrating as I noticed other tables receiving complimentary salsa, while my table was given none, with no explanation. I couldn’t help but wonder if I was treated differently, possibly due to my race, especially since the water charge seemed unique to me.
The food was mediocre—nothing stood out, and it didn’t justify the price or hassle. The restaurant itself was uncomfortably hot with no air conditioning, making the meal unpleasant. The interior also felt dirty, with visible grime that detracted from the experience. To top it off, the server who brought my food had noticeable body odor, which was off-putting and unprofessional.
Overall, the combination of poor service, questionable practices, and an unclean, uncomfortable environment made this a place I’ll avoid in the future. The food is honestly a mid 3 stars but the tap water set me off and the service nonexistent and they still want a tip? Stay away also only 3 parking spots
