The Dancing Dog is an absolute must-visit in Charleston! From the moment we walked in, we were charmed by the fantastic atmosphere—it’s so vibrant, welcoming, and just a genuinely happy place to be. The decor is unique and inviting, making it the perfect spot for a casual lunch or a treat.
The staff is truly what makes this place shine, though. They were so awesome—friendly, attentive, and genuinely enthusiastic about the food and the customers. Exceptional service all around!
And the food? Phenomenal! I had the fried bologna sandwich and a side of fries, and it was pure comfort food perfection. The sandwich was perfectly prepared and so delicious, and the fries were crispy and seasoned just right. My wife got the smash burger with the pasta salad, and she hasn’t stopped talking about how tasty it was. The burger was juicy, and the pasta salad was a fantastic, flavorful side.

The Dancing Dog Ice Cream Cafe is an absolute gem! Every time I visit, the staff is incredibly friendly and welcoming—they always make you feel right at home. While their ice cream is famous (and rightfully so!), you absolutely have to try their savory items. The smash burger is easily one of the best in the city: perfectly seasoned, juicy, and cooked to crispy-edged perfection. And please, do not skip the pasta salad! It’s fresh, tangy, and the perfect side to cut through the richness of the burger. Great food and genuinely friendly service make this place a winner. I can’t recommend it enough!

This place is a little slice of heaven. I had no clue this place existed until about two months ago. My family loves this place. The burgers are seasoned and oh, the fries are perfect! Was looking for a place to eat after a hair cut and my barber recommended Dancing Dog right across the street. I’m so glad he did. The restaurant is extremely clean and the staff welcoming and pleasant. Devin behind the counter is one of the nicest and most genuine human beings I have ever met. He talked to me the whole time while the food was being made. He asked how I thought the menu was and how the pricing was compared to other restaurants. The pricing is well below what is expect even at a fast food chain and the food is absolutely FANTASTIC. I will be coming back again and again.

It could be that it was exactly what I was craving today but the smashed burger was not just the best smash burger I’ve had but may have been the best burger, period, that I’ve had that wasn’t by my own hand. I also had the hand cut fries. A lot of places will just phone it in one the fries when hot food isn’t their main focus. Not here. The fries were perfect – crisp outside, fluffy inside, salted just enough. Service was very friendly, too. I’ll be back!
Update: It wasn’t just because I was hungry. That smash burger is terrific! The chicken salad is pretty good, too.
Update 2: Still terrific. They’ve added blended coffee drinks to the menu. I had the mocha frappucino. The flavor is good but it’s a little weak for my taste. My wife says I like mine too strong so, most people would probably think this one is fine.

Well i went back today and even tho i dont like beef hot dogs i decided to try one jus for the heck of it and my mind has been changed. It was the best beef hot dog I’ve ever had! The bun was toasted, the chili and slaw was on point! We have a winner here! I will definitely be a regular customer! Next i will try the fish. The hot dog was so good, I could only take a pic of what was left!

Dancing Dog is a real treat! This is the place for delicious freshly made ice cream. I had a double dip of cappuccino and vanilla. Wow! There’s nothing plain about vanilla here.
The shop is clean, cute and comfortable, and the kindness and good service of the staff made it a really nice place for an ice cream break. I’ll go back next time I’m in the area. We were passing through on a cross country trip.
