A stroll through Bear Mountain. The place is incredible, surrounded by nature. And the large mansion caught my attention. The restaurant on the second floor is beautiful, very well decorated with a huge fireplace, a truly fantastic mountain lodge! The food was excellent, delicious, and the price was great. The staff was very friendly, making you feel right at home. I ordered chicken soup, New York steak, and crème brûlée… everything was fantastic. A perfect place to visit after a good trek or hike in the mountains!

I genuinely had an amazing experience with the tea service, the table setting was elegant, the service was amazing, the quality of the baked goods was impressive, especially the scones. The tea sandwiches were unique, subtle in flavor, but satisfying nonetheless.

The way the sunlight enters the room midday paired with the view, makes the experience magical.

Amazing place for the holidays. Thanksgiving, Breakfast with Santa weekends in December, Xmas Eve or Xmas dinner or New Year’s Eve dinner or New Year’s Day Lunch.
They have a historical functioning Merry Go Round for children to ride.

The restaurant 1915 is located on the second floor of the historic Bear Mountain Inn, and for most visitors, it’s the only real dining option in the park if you’re hoping for something more substantial than trail mix or a packed lunch. And you do pay for the premium. At noon, it operates buffet-style, charging for about $60 a person, with only a moderate selection of food. For hot foods, you can’t serve yourself. Instead, you point at your choices behind the buffet line and a waiter portions it for you, a slightly annoying formality.

The spread leans toward comfort food: carved meats, pastas in creamy sauces, roasted vegetables, and a modest salad bar with cured meats and smoked salmon tucked among the greens. There’s a waffle station too, where you can point the cook to pile berries, whipped cream, and dried fruits onto thick golden rounds. It’s not an overwhelming variety, and for the price — noticeably high — you might hope for a bit more refinement or breadth.

With the above said, the food is simple but satisfying: the salmon surprisingly moist, the beef hearty, the salad fresh if unremarkable. The waffles are great, feel like a small indulgence earned after a morning’s climb. And the setting — those sweeping views through the wide lodge windows, the heavy timbered ceiling soaring above — makes the meal feel like part of a larger, almost storybook outing.

Despite all of the negative reviews, I thought I would give this restaurant a try. Restaurant 1915 had advertised Mardi Gras the entire week. It said to enjoy a Mardi Gras atmosphere with special food and drinks. My family and I get to the restaurant, and the person who greets us had no idea about any Mardi Gras week. I then showed her the advertisement and she said she had to go get her manager. The manager came and apologized and said they had run out of Mardi Gras food and therefore, didn’t have any of the specials. Also, our server had no idea about the Mardi Gras specials. Needless to say, we were very disappointed. Unfortunately, this restaurant is not managed well at all. The manager did take a small amount off of our bill however, the excuse they used and, the fact that none of the staff knew made it very suspicious to me. The atmosphere was good, however, the food was only lukewarm and the service was poor. I don’t think we’ll be going back anytime soon.

My experience with the English Afternoon Tea was overall pleasant but also a bit disappointing. The waitress was very kind, attentive, and respectful. Since I was alone, she offered me a 2-tier tray instead of the usual 3-tier one, which I accepted. However, I was charged $28 at the end, the same price as a 3-tier service, which I found unfair.

We were there for New Year’s Eve (without a reservation) so they put us in a small side room. First off, our cocktails were terrific. We were also grateful to get ANY seating, given the holiday, but the side room they put us in felt drab. The lighting in that room was “cold” (fluorescent?) and there was a faint attempt at ambiance (no candles, for instance).

They seemed to be understaffed as they forgot us being in the side room (there were 4 other couples). We had to remind our server, who was always kind and apologetic) a few times about food items missing. Our Caesar salad was plain and a expensive but our burgers were tasty!

It’s too bad because we know the history of this lodge and expected something warmer.

This was our final spot before returning back to the city and hiking Anthony’s Nose. The restaurant is on the 2nd floor of a huge mountain cabin and is decorated nicely with woodsy/Bear Mountain decor.

My friend ordered chicken pot pie and I got the Steak Frites (and Prosecco-not pictured). The steak could stand to be hotter and it was likely due to the chicken pot pie that we were told takes a while. The fries were 10/10 and crisp while being soft inside. My friend said her pot pie was one of the best she’s had. Overall, a good visit and I do recommend this spot if you’re visiting the area!

We booked a table for 5 for Brunch with Santa on Dec. 15 and were very excited to try the food out for the first time since we live about 20 minutes away and have never tried it!

When we got there we didn’t find any signs pointing us towards the brunch or any people who could direct us so I went to the front desk at the inn to ask and was told where to go (upstairs dining area).

It felt a bit unorganized but the place is beautiful and I was willing to be patient. We had signed up for the 10am brunch and the line at the door was very long so next time we might sign up for the later session to see if there might be less of a wait. Fortunately the line did move well once the doors opened.

We were seated but again, no instructions as to whether we should go to the the buffet or wait to be asked. Finally saw everyone else getting on line so we did too, but the line was long and disorganized and it probably would have helped to have someone guiding people to the different lines.

I have to say the food was fabulous though, but we felt rushed to leave and our server was taking plates away before we were done eating, so we had to hang on to our food since getting seconds was almost impossible! Also felt like the people serving at the buffet were giving such small portions that next time we might have to grab 2 plates or miss out on any seconds! I had gotten a small piece of French toast that was delicious, but the server gave me no blueberries and I had to ask, but only got 5 little blueberries, which is OK, but when I went back up an hour later, the food was already put away.

Since they were in such a rush, when we got the check, my husband paid and I never looked at his receipt. We got home and I got the emailed receipt and looked and saw that they had charged us $48 for our 2 year old grandson who was supposed to be free. They also automatically added 18% for gratuity, which is fine, but we are trying to get in touch with the restaurant to get a credit for the overcharge.

Also, my grandson never got his photo with Santa because that line was so slow and long that my son and daughter in law gave up on waiting. They did get his free ride on the carousel and that was nice.

The place is beautiful, the food is fabulous, service could be better, but I’m a huge believer in trying a second time so we are in the midst of trying to get a credit for the $48 we were overcharged so we can return for another brunch soon and hopefully have a better experience in this beautiful place.
